  1. most of the original building has been renovated since 1941... most... one corner has been mostly left to time... the walls and floors of the hallways are still original tiles... the tv sports office and radio networks sales office are old radio studios (the "B" studios, B1, B2, B3, B5). tv sports was 620's studio (b1) until they built the studios in the old auditorium space in the 80s... radio networks sales was one of the "big" studios (B2)... they put up drywall and a drop ceiling... scoot a tile aside and you can look up to the old studio ceiling and the window for the clients booth... part of B2 was divided up in the 70's to make a WKTI studio (B5)... still there, gutted, as sports tape storage... there's a lot of space on the second floor... unusable because there is no elevator up there... a renovation would be $$$ but the building is still solid... lots of odd space they could reclaim by gutting it... they might still end up with too much space... maybe they could share with someone else like KGO/KRON does...
  2. how come when a station gets a corporate graphics/music pkg it's lamented as a loss of local identity... but when a station adopts a unique logo brewed up locally... it's "slapped together"??? nobody else in town has a logo like that... and that is the point...
  3. you forgot the asterisks... #1* in their market!!! (*using the measurements that are useful to them...) there will be other things happening to the o&o's much sooner than this sale will... you all will not like them...
  4. so... what is with your obsession with mr. Kim??? never see anyone saying "Leon Black is trying to take over Cox"... same for Dave Lougee... "Dave Lougee is buying up Raycom..." mr. Kim is the only executive you all mention by name... hope it's not race related... just saying...
  5. you people are all off your rockers... this is not what is on bryon allen's mind... period... end of story... this isn't lifetime movies presents tvnewstalk's collective wet dream... maybe TEGNA is appealing to these people because of the way they do things... mark my words... some day you will wish more owners were like TEGNA... when those other stations are going DARK!!!
  6. you said the secret word!!! today's secret word is.... mandate... i guess they forgot about the "mandate" when they gave KVUE a new logo... and WCNC... need to impress tvnewstalk??? use the word "mandate!" works every time...
  7. the ratings will surely surge under the eyewitness news brand.... nothing better than a 70's gimmick to bring the viewers in...
  8. they won't be back... their departures were financially driven... with a convenient side effect of the station bringing in younger talent to replace them... unless they want to come back a much lower salary... no longtime anchor wants to be an mmj...
  9. do you have any evidence to support those claims??? seems to me like a lot of tegna stations are doing fine... even winning awards for their work!!! there is no evidence whatsoever that the graphics and the music have impacted viewership... just a tvnt conspiracy theory... the format??? maybe... but the graphics??? who cares??? one person on facebook??? if you all had your way and brought the industry back to the roarin' 90's that you all consider the golden age... the industry would be dead by 2021. tegna made $552 million last quarter... 2% more than last year... sounds to me like they're doing fine...
  10. the everlasting battle between graphics and the newsroom... most lower thirds have a character limit... most producers hate the character limit... because they can't figure out how to keep anything short... if it were up to some producers, lower thirds would be fancy closed captioning... the real story there was the arrest...
  11. writers, producers, unpaid interns... some anchors skim their scripts for hard to pronounce words... but they don't sit down and fact check it... their job is to read what scrolls up that prompter... i'm ron burgundy?
  12. no doubt about it... classic management interference right there... sports broadcasts bring in the big bucks... don't want to piss off a client with your tornado warning ticker covering their phone number... and the postgame sponsor paid for the whole show... not the part covered up by some weather guy with his sleeves rolled up... WGN has only so many games left to milk sweet ad revenue from... and of course... nobody wants to deal with angry cubbies fans... drunkenly hooting and hollering to the poor assignment desk about how distracting the weather double box is...
  13. that is how this industry works now.... look at jeff zucker... the smart people are looking towards the exit... not looking to become a manager...
  14. if a monitor is kicking out that much light... OSHA might want to know...
  15. "go away"??? where are they going to go??? gray and nexstar own over 300 stations combined... if they had to "go away" i can assure you many of those would cease to exist... poof... it will happen... eventually... there will be no buyers left... and it will be easier to liquidate assets and shut down... than wait around and try to sell off... happens all the time in a lot of industries... restaurants... stores (how many retailers have gone bankrupt in the past 5 years???) and one day it will happen to tv... then you will wish the grays and nexstars were still around... these companies are keeping the industry from reaching mach speed on the down slope to the end...
  16. here's something you don't see every day... an anchor appearing on a competitor... KXTV morning anchor Mark S. Allen appeared on KMAX's Good Day Sacramento (his former home) to commemorate the retirement of GDS anchor Marianne McClary.
  17. lower thirds are the same... just the bug moved... mike dello stritto got too used to the 16:9 Scripps graphics in vegas...
  18. he can't be much worse than jay howell... who essentially hit the ground running with projects to automate the control rooms... said goodbye to expensive talent and redundant management... loved bonded cellular over anything else (which has blown up on air multiple times)... he also implemented a cheap-o way to telecast the local minor league baseball games... taking the feeds of the team's in-house stadium cameras and sending them back to the station over cheap IP encoders (not fiber, some wireless junk) where they are switched... blew up right before the first telecast and almost sank it... if the engineers hadn't been clever... he is cheap cheap cheap!!! KOVR is ripe for some bean counting... good day sacramento takes up tons of resources (sac has a huge creative services team... half of which seem to exclusively work on good day material...) and makes little profit... who wants to bet a year from now it's reduced to an hour long infotainment show?? KOVR is where they are slipping bean counters into the "good ol' boys" club that is CBS GMs...
  19. they did... there were other "circle 5" logo variations pitched too... they were passed on... and most of them weren't great... the consultants or whoever said they needed a new brand and that's what happened... maybe... just maybe... tv stations that are struggling to attract young viewers... don't want some dated logo and slogan from the 70's serving as their brand... this happens everywhere... pepsi has done it... mcdonalds... walmart... all for the same reason... to remake their image... hell in the period of time some of these stations have changed their logo once... other brands have changed a dozen times.... oh the times they are a changin'...
  20. i see the "i wish things stayed the way they were in 1995" side of tvnewstalk is out again... a mediocre logo for a mediocre company... not sure what the problem is... quality over quantity??? how many logos do they have??? if you don't like this logo... you should have seen some of the drafts... oof!!! this was the best of the bunch... believe me...
  21. his short tenure at KOVR was fraught with hasty management and talent departures... wonder if he's being sent around to clean house...
  22. i am in the target demo, and the only reason i watch network news is i work in tv and it's on at my desk... if i wasn't working i wouldn't watch... why? because i've heard it already... i saw the same news on Twitter three hours ago... and i didn't have to sit through a bunch of fluff to see it... i'm not sure you will like how they "evolve"... Its going to be nothing like how it is now... one anchor? long opens? all of that will go away... to attract the kiddos... @Weeters needs to make a pure HTML theme for this site so people can pretend it really is 1995...
  23. tmj4's version of the now was doing pretty well ratings-wise... so they might have some freedom to keep parts of their old format... one of the few "nows" where the ratings went up from the show it replaced ("wisconsin tonight" was a dumpster fire) that bug was the normal now bug without the current conditions icon... a limitation of viz ticker versus newsroom solutions that scripps standardized everyone else on... someone told me they were working on adding it but it was very low priority... guess no one got around to it...
  24. it went nation wide today... the article says the changes take place “starting Today”... not sure what YOU have been watching... but they’re much bigger... and uglier... than before... not to mention more red...
  25. highly doubt they are remodeling the set during sweeps... whatever you see now are probably all the changes that are going to be made... if it aint changed by the minute the opening ceremonies end on friday it aint getting changed...
