  1. Then, they do top story recap at 10:01, and Tom @ Ten (oh three.) This is already about 10x better than last night.
  2. Well, tonight it's the WGN News at Ten... at 9:59. And they're leading off with a live report from Wrigley. Better.
  3. Ohhhh boy. But really, it's unclear if WGN and WBBM will debut this sweeps period? I think it's a little late to get it ready for November... February could be interesting, though. We'll see!
  4. Well, at least they closed with all of them at the desk together for the first time in years. And we get to see the 7-day again. (And he kept all of the text in the boxes. Damn!) "Aren't we having so much fun?!" -Tom Skilling
  5. Why don't they actually have Tom at Ten like they said they would? That would be better than being in the middle of a lame click bait story at 10:00. It looks like they're more interested in keeping their own 9:00 viewers than luring people away from the big three networks. Just look at the way they reformatted the News at Nine to set up the Ten. Do they really expect people to stay for 90 minutes? I don't think that's a good idea, either.
  6. Well, he's back at 9:52, but it's more like "coming up in the forecast at ten" now. And they quickly go back to news.
  7. Yeah, WLS rarely fails to impress with their promos. I saw this late last night and did a double take. That's an impressive little set for a 30-second commercial.
  8. If I didn't know better, I'd say something is going on in the WGN graphics department. Earlier, I mentioned that their SD feed was letterboxed (for me at least.) Yesterday, I noticed the score bug for the Cubs game had been moved to the left, out of the safe zone. Then, this morning, they roll out new weather graphics that violate the 4:3 safe zone. The main bug is still the same... for now.
  9. That would be my prediction, too. There would have probably been an announcement or some kind of send-off for him today if he was leaving the morning news. He's certainly the rising star in the WGN weather center, and I'm wondering how much longer he'll be on the early shift. It will be interesting to see how they do fill-ins. When Tom is off, I wonder if Demetrius will forgo his 4-6am duties and handle the evening shows instead. They've done this on several occasions over the past couple of years. But, assuming he stays on the morning news, he'll also be the go-to fill-in for Konrad.
  10. Here are the videos, if anyone's interested. http://wgntv.com/2015/09/30/linda-kollmeyers-final-televised-illinois-lottery-drawing/ Good night, and good luck.
  11. You should've seen her outfit tonight... She ended with a nice little farewell, that went overtime and got messed up in true WGN fashion. I'm sure they'll post the video of it. Anyway, I'll certainly miss her and her words of wisdom. Here's hoping we'll see her again on television for something.
  12. WGN has confirmed (through lots of promos during the Cubs game) that Linda will do the final lottery drawing tonight, and it sounds like she's going sit down for an interview, as well.
  13. Enjoy "your live Illinois Lottery drawing" while you can! On October 1st, the drawings will move online, where a random number generator will make the selections. Not surprising, but kinda sad to see this go... I feel like it really adds to the charm of the News at Nine. And we'll all miss Linda Kollmeyer, of course. IIRC, the drawings are done in the former home of Bozo (Studio 1?), much of which is still intact behind the green lottery backdrops. It's a big space, and I wonder what they'll do with it.
  14. Well, they issued yet another profuse apology for the gaffe on tonight's newscast, and then showed a feature report on an area synagogue and what Yom Kippur means. Suffice to say, they've handled this about as well as they could have. Assuming (hoping) it wasn't someone's idea of a crude joke, it was a cringe-worthy mistake, and I have no idea how it happened. But, pretty much every station has made unfortunate graphics errors because, well, sh*t happens. You can bet WGN is going to be a lot more careful, since this is ALL over the internet. Granted, most people won't remember this by Friday, but still.... And, as inane as this may seem, I feel really sorry for Negovan, since he had nothing to do with the creation of the graphic. But it's his face that is being passed around on social media in the now-infamous screen grab.
  15. Their SD feed is now letterboxed during the news. Now, let's reformat the L3s and get that bug down to a reasonable size, WGN!
  16. Jeez, I forgot that she even works there.
  17. This is a pretty odd move. Sure, their ratings are abysmal, the Johnson/Sullivan duo is extremely weak, and *almost* any change would be good change for their 10pm. But why bring in someone from Miami that no Chicagoan will recognize and make her the anchor of the flagship newscast? Do they actually think this is going to move the dial? The timing is also interesting... getting nervous about WGN? I wonder if there are more changes in the works. Hope so.
  18. Good... they need to make some big changes over there, because their 10PM is a sleepfest. It is soooo stale. It's not entirely Sullivan's fault, but she certainly isn't helping things (she makes Micah Materre seem warm and likable). Johnson sure as hell isn't doing them any favors either; their whole core of reporters is just really weak.
  19. Latest from Mediaite's Concha: Kate Snow gets 3-5PM. Morning Joe extended by one hour, til 10. No surprise. Tamron Hall getting 10-noon. Jose Diaz Balart... "odd man out." Willie Geist *possibly* headed for Chris Hayes' primetime slot. Developing... http://www.mediaite.com/tv/exclusive-msnbc-to-expand-morning-joe-one-more-hour-kate-snow-gets-afternoon-role/
  20. You never know what's going to happen when Jerry Taft works on a Sunday. I know it's crappy video from my iPad, but it's just too funny. My goodness, I love that man.
  21. Ouch. I actually don't think that observation was too off-base. Setting the backdrops aside, I think 7's temp desk is better than WGN's. The anchor desk is the biggest problem with 'GN's studio; it looks cheap, messy, and very outdated. IMO, 9 needs a new set way more than 7 does. But, who knows? 7's renovation came out of nowhere, maybe WGN will surprise us soon. What would they use for a temp set... the newsroom? That could get problematic with CLTV... I wonder if that's one issue that's holding them back.
  22. They've brought on Patrick Elwood full-time! GREAT move. He fits right in there.
  23. I like it, too. It's probably the best promo they've done in a while IMO. On an unrelated note, they keep running these cryptic ads for "Crime Watch Daily." What is it? I think it's a show, but where is it going to fit into the schedule?
