they just hired a new meteorologist. I presume this is for weekend mornings. Don’t know much about him so we shall see.
They need to hire a new sports anchor like yesterday. They haven’t had one in two months.
Troy was a popular meteorologist for like 15+ years at WKMG-TV Orlando. He used to work in OKC before that I believe and was a chief at one point at KLRT Little Rock when their news operations got going in 2004 (when KLRT was separate from KARK at the time).

Wow. It only takes a five-year career to make it to WGN now. They might as well just start recruiting in Laredo or Eureka for that matter.
I mean... WGN hired a then-newcomer morning meteorologist from Rockford almost eight years ago. She jumped from market #137 to market #3 and I think people criticized that because she wasn't market-ready to go from small market Rockford to big market Chicago.
Today, Morgan Kolkmeyer is one of the best home run decisions WGN made to hire for their morning news program within the past decade. I wouldn't have known her otherwise had she not gone to WGN.

Quite the discovery last night in the basement here. I am getting these digitized today and will get some compilations uploaded to YT.
A couple notes…the WKMG early 80s image campaigns and what is aka “Tuesday11” is called “Heart of…” and “Action News” is actually called “Look to Us”
These reels are the master reels. I had previously found the station dubs that were in fairly poor condition. These reels are in pristine quality.
It's Nice to Come Home... to TV 3! (KORK-TV Las Vegas, better known as KVBC and today's KSNV).

Didn't KPRC do a 4am newscast first?
Never. KRIV did so first and has been doing one... since 2010.

I haven't been watching much Fox Weather lately, but I just tuned in and noticed that the overnight show has been given the Fox Weather @ Night moniker back, and the show is being produced by the control room with a full set of graphics, inserts, and music again.
And I noticed that Haley Meier is hosting on a Thursday, which was always one of her days off...
So I checked the bio page, and sure enough, Kelly Costa's bio has been de-linked. Her last social media post about Fox Weather seems to be on February 13th. Looking in the past, she tweeted on February 14, 2023 that it was her 1-year mark with Fox Weather. Sounds like she had a two-year deal that was not renewed.
This makes sense, as it's seemed like Fox Weather has had very little interest in keeping the Orlando operation going ever since Katie Garner left. Back in June 2023, when they changed Kelly's backdrop from the Orlando skyline to a fake background of the NYC Weather Command area, compounded with the fact that they never hired an Orlando-based replacement for Katie, I had a feeling that their tiny Orlando outfit would come to an end sooner rather than later.
Wishing Kelly well on whatever comes next.
Damn. I loved Kelly. I thought she was great and very versatile.

Last week, the newscast wasn't on YouTube, and this week, the reporters have been running the show, and their inexperience at anchoring clearly shows. They had a local actress, Geovonna Casanova, anchor a couple of days, and she was not much better. I'm not sure if Austin Reed is taking some vacation, out for other reasons, or gone completely, and appreciate people exerting an effort, but it is not good.
Maybe this has something to do with it now that KAPP/KVEW has him.

Out of curiosity, during which time period was this?
If I remember correctly, it was the entire day with the worst in the morning.

Yeah, no. WSVN is all hard news, traffic and weather, business, and even morning sports updates from 5-11 a.m.

Yup. I have yet to see their 10 AM hour. Is it hard news as well, or does it have interviews and fluff?
Hard news. No interviews, no fluff. Its straight news the entire time from 5-11 a.m. WSVN is a station that doesn't do heavy fluff.

Then there is WSVN method. Re-runing the 11pm news at 4:30 am. Also not the worst idea. After all, most content between 4 & 6 am is a rehash of yesterday's news.
Leading to six live hours of morning news from 5-11 a.m.

I've already got the answer.
NGL, I Kevin kinda blew it here. I get that the FCC wasn't eager to greenlight the sale to Mission, but demanding more money from Nexstar in the age of reverse compensation cost WADL dearly.
On the other hand, the fact that Scripps was willing to sacrifice what might have been eventual prime time space for the Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings if/when DSG goes belly-up suggests they can be talked into keeping The CW on at least some their stations.
Hahaha. I love that Spongebob moment but it sounds true for what's happening to WADL right now.

That's probably even worse, unless they are getting crushed at 10pm by the WINK-powered newscast on WXCW.
That's a FOX affiliate's calling card unless the station is a total ratings dog or mismanaged by its duopoly partner.
All the while Scripps is heavily investing in sports on the broadcast properties while the newscasts are getting the shaft in smaller markets.
The weeknight 10, 10:30, and 11pm newscasts are now Scrippscasts.

According to this article in the Acadiana Advocate, KATC's (Lafayette, LA) main evening anchors are leaving the station as Scripps "will [reportedly] end the station’s live shows at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and replace it with prerecorded shows with local reporters filling in content."

I'm bringing this back up because Marcelle and Jim are joining KADN/KLAF in the new year to anchor their 5:00, 6:00, and 10:00pm newscasts.

Oh yes, he did. I believe he joined WWOR around '97 or '98, under Chris-Craft ownership then.

I’m guessing the arrangement is KTVK and KPHO will both simulcast the first half-hour of the newscast, and then KTVK carries it exclusively at 12:30?
From the schedules I've seen, yes.

This popped into PACER the other day. Here's a paywalled article on meteorologist Erin Little suing KCTV and Gray.
They don't even feature her now as part of the weather team on-air. When they unveiled their new weather branding, she was absent from the promo.

KTVK: The back-to-back episodes of Last Man Standing at 11:00am and 11:30am will be replaced by a rerun of The People’s Court. Your Life Arizona (at 10:00am) reduces to half an hour as an episode of Hot Bench (which also airs on KPHO) will take its place.
Another inaccuracy here. Your Life Arizona goes back to an hour at 10am, two episodes of Last Man Standing at 11am, and the newly expanded hour-long Arizona's Family News at Noon.

WSVN: Also no changes
WRONG. There will be a change on WSVN 7 in the 1:00pm hour since Rachael Ray is going off-the-air but I just don't know what WSVN is replacing it with.

Beginning September 11, WBTS/Boston will cut-back its morning news from a 4am start to a 5am start. Early Today will run from 3:30am-5am.
I think that'll be the first time in their history that they'll be cutting anything from their newscast schedule.

first local early morning newscast in the United States
in General TV
Posted
I'll respond. First off, welcome aboard since I can tell this is your first post. And second, no. I believe The Good Morning Show from WFMY-TV Greensboro is the first early local morning newscast in the United States. That program has been on since December 1957.
