Both stations fight between each other for #2 and #3. Duane Pohlman is at WKRC now.

IMO, WSYX is unwatchable, and it has nothing to do with Sinclair's must runs, etc. They just do a lot of low-brow/lowest common denominator type stuff that is straight out of 1994. ("What's in your fridge that could kill you and your family...on Fox 28 News at 10...")

Their must runs only add insult to injury.

  2. You can still see Nexstar influence over the organization. From taking away employee benefits to cheap sets and graphics, to forcing stations to use Stephen Arnold themes.
They are based in Plano, and some of the Media General stations were already using Steven Arnold themes. Then again, I do see your point.

  3. KRON, WFLA, WSPA, KASW, KXAN, KRQE, WBRE/WYOU, KLRT, KHON, KSNW, WFXR, KVEO, KWKT, WCBD, KTSM, WFFF/WVNY, WJBF, KAMR, WTVO, KSNT, KFDX, WJET, and WETM have the new website.

Of the Nexstar "legacy" stations only KVEO and KTSM changed their web address, they are now simply KVEO.com, KTSM.com

No Media General station has adopted the localportalhompage.net format so far.

I guess they figured out that the localportalhomepage.net format was just a stupid fad after all.

  4. They'll probably all get it now that they're cutting back on the local angle, which is the only thing the local stations could have fought corporate about. Can't really argue "we don't have the resources to produce this" when all you're doing is inserting cut-ins.

I get the hunch this is a response to "Daily Blast Live".

Hopefully it's at around the same time frame as Daily Blast Live.
  5. No media/broadcasting corporation should, directly or indirectly, have a PAC and/or ask their employees to contribute to said PAC regardless of political affiliation. While it may seem like people are piling on Sinclair; believe me that they would be just as critical if this was Comcast, AT&T, Disney, etc...doing the same thing.
Actually, no they wouldn't. They are piling on Sinclair, even though Nexstar donated to Hiliary Clinton during the 2016 election cycle.
  6. Consider that it was only for three years, essentially, that KMSB had no umbilical cord to anybody.

I especially can't see it now in this environment of station consolidation. Economically, Tucson isn't exactly Phoenix.

Maybe in a few years they'll sever the umbilical cord with KOLD. But for now, they'll have to stick with them.
  7. It appears that Nexstar pulled its stations' live streaming from the NewsOn apps and WatchNewsOn.com. It was replaced with "Unfortunately, ____ is no longer available on NewsOn. For ____'s coverage on NewsOn, you can tune into ____." or "We're working to add another station in the area as soon as possible" or a black screen. The stations' logos were replaced by the NewsOn logo.

It was only a matter of time.......

Bad enough that a lot of the legacy Nexstar stations still don't live stream their newscasts, now this happens. Something tells me they're on the verge of axing the streams altogether next as another one of many many cost-cutting moves by this station group.

What is the point? Do they think not streaming just drives people to traditional TV? It doesn't.

Well... that goes my list on my thread in the breakroom section.
In Nexstar's defense, live streaming really isn't that cheap. I mean, live streaming with broadcast quality cameras? Those don't come cheap, not to mention legacy media isn't as alive as it once was. Then again, Nexstar could've at least kept the livestreams of stations that already had them.
  8. In other words, Beyond is the new FOX O&O theme. The OSI has served well for 10 years but its now time for the FOX group to get a new theme.
Yeah. It's already been 10 years. They should get a new theme.

Now WAGA Switched to Beyond. the next very likely to get it is WJZY, WFLD, WTXF, KDFW, WNYW, WJBK.
I wouldn't be surprised that KDFW is next to switch to Beyond seeing as how Stephen Arnold Music is headquartered locally.
  9. WTHR (nee WLWI) is also unavailable. Ditto with "The Nation's Station," 700 WLW (namesake for the entire WLW chain).**

Although if a Nexstar-TEGNA merger goes through, they'd have WXIA, which was WLWA*** in the 1960s.

** Columbus had its share of chain stations throughout the years... prior to being purchased by Taft, 610 WTVN was WHKC, an outpost of the then-Cleveland Plain Dealer-owned 1420 WHK. Taft then paired WTVN AM/TV by purchasing WLWC-TV's FM partner, 96.3 WLWF, rechristened WTVN-FM, now WLVQ.

*** Not to be confused with 550 WKRC's brief stint as 550 WLW-A in the early 1990s when Taft/Great American was broken up.

They're more likely to have WFAA, KHOU, KENS, and KXAN as flagships (they're sisters in the same state and the first station listed is also in the same DMA Nexstar is headquartered in) than to have WXIA.

  10. You know what? At this point, I'm tired of coming back to political tv threads just to be branded as insane! Well as Apple once said, here's to the crazy ones bitches!!!

But seriously, it's easy to say that sinclair is acting like a bully and a baby to the critics, but once you get called insane so many times, ignoring that shit just makes it even worse!!!

And I never thought I'd have the displeasure of saying this but, Sinclair has to grow. Every fucking station group does nowadays thanks to digital media (including Youtube and Netflix)! And sinclair has balls that most other station groups dont have.

Trust me, I dont like that station group either, but they're a necessary evil if we want to win this culture war against modern day leftists (especially against Antifa). Actually, I take that sentence back. Sinclair isn't that neccessary anymore with local tv slowly but surely dying off and the viewers that are still watching slowly dying off with it. And besides, I wouldn't be caught dead with Bill O'Riley anywhere with me anyway. No. Instead, the Youtube skeptic community such as Sargon of Akkad, James Allsup, and Lauren Southern, are quite possibly our last hope in winning this culture war.

Look, I dont try to hide my biases like the media often does, and sometimes even sinclair in painfully obvious ways. In fact, by now since I said it far too many times, it should be clear what my biases are and there really is no such thing as truly unbiased journalism despite what people think.

Again, people will more that likely think I'm a fucking wacko but, here's to the fucking wackos shitheads!!!

Sorry, I sort of got carried away here, but my points still stand.

  11. Nexstar to buy TEGNA (pls let this just be a regular Tuesday/Wednesday rumor)

    https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/4/26/nexstar-to-buy-tegna

Nexstar isn't as bad as we hyped them up to be. Sure they laid off an assload of people and brought down helicopters (the latter of which is a smart move because of excess helicopter noise), but they're not that bad. We were all overreacting (including myself). TEGNA however, sucks now, and Nexstar buying it would, despite what FTVLive says, actually be an upgrade to it the way Sinclair was to Barrington.
  12. Also in Richmond. A receptionist and a janitor. Really?

Also, is anyone surprised by this news? Hollywood Today Live will end production at the end of the month (4/28). Since he's not in the syndicated biz, Sook was never for it to begin with.

I'm surprised it lasted this long, despite the fact it aired in small markets and that--even after all this time--I still barely know what it is. It still has no Wikipedia page, for corn's sake! (not that it needs one now.)

It really doesn't; most days it played like a non-aware parody of other talk shows. I only saw one interview with an actress I actually knew and they were hiring actresses as co-hosts at probably good salaries. Hopefully they can pawn off the Hollywood/Vine studio lease at a good price. It's no wonder that the moment WBAY and KWQC got their MCs moved to Gray they were easily able to justify that infomercials made more money than a late night playing of a talk show from noon.
To be fair, Hollywood Today Live isn't that good of a syndicated show, and I don't even go keeping up with the Kardashians or any other celebrity or celebrity gossip because to me, like tv itself (including cable, satellite, and even atsc 1.0 and 3.0) now that the internet has taken over, it's irrelevant
  13. It looks like WISH-TV in Indiana has shot down its BIRD. Who's next?

Cheapskates! Same thing they did after acquiring KLAS. Do any other former Media General stations have choppers cuz, if so, they're next.

Those idiots running Nexstar don't deserve to have choppers. They have no clue on how to run an airship program...nor how to fund one.

WSPA does, and so does WFLA.
To be fair, helicopter noise is one of the thibgs many people (including myself) hate, so while they were a bit of cheapskates, you probably don't realize that they're actually doing people a favor in decreasing helicopter noise because it just keeps us awake for a fire or some car chase that a police helicopter can take care of. The only reason for a news helicopter as far as I know is for an earthquake of a magnitude of at least 6 or 7, but that's it!

And by the way, look into the comments of people below the story after reading it:

    http://www.berkeleyside.com/2011/10/28/about-those-helicopters-qa-with-ktvus-news-director/

Are there any other choppers that competitors have in the MG-turned-Nexstar markets? They could probably get a deal on buying a used one.
Good point, but don't news organisations tend to lease helicopters instead of buying one?
  14. Anyway, back on topic, tegna needs to update its media page on its website so that it either places the stations by market rank in descending order like Tribune, or make a map of the stations with the market rank of the stations and station info like Nexstar

Also, td jakes show will be replaced by a show called "BOLD" (which more than likely isn't that bold) on all tegna stations effective this fall.

  15. God I hope not.. their domain names are stupid and in some cases pathetically long... using the station call letters is easier to remember than patheticallylongandridiculousdomainnamefirst.com
I actually like those domain names more than the regular stationcallletter.com or networkchannelnumber.com. They tend to be more creative than most tv station domain names. Sure some are impractical (looking at you mystateline.com), but at least you can put the station's call letters and they redirect you to the actual website, and even then, people get used to said website domain name and remember that instead. I certainly do.
  16. The problem with "alternative news outlets", "citizen journalists" is that many lack the training/schooling/knowledge that we must expect from the journalism profession. Yes, you could make the bigger argument that true journalism has been dying for a while now. However, some of these "alternative news outlets" are no different than the biased mainstream media. These blogs/"citizen journalists" give a voice to those individuals whom feel that their message is not being heard or who feel that there are others like them out there looking for the same kind of attention. Good or bad, that's up for debate. The dangerous part lies in the fact that you can't really hold a Joe Shmoe "citizen journalist" accountable for misinformation or spreading lies like you could the likes of Wolf Blitzer or CNN/FOX News, etc.

The problem lies in the fact that most of the public is unable to distinguish what is true/fake/opinion. People believe what ever fits the narrative, and that is NOT what the journalism profession should stand for.

As far as not waiting for the 6pm news, etc. You're correct. However, this just follows the natural progression of time, of how information makes it to the public. i.e.: (word of mouth>Newspapers>radio>television>internet). Eventually something else will come along and push the Internet back as a different method of delivery.

This whole issue is multi-pronged. You can't have one conversation without taking into account everything else that effects it.

You do make a good point about a lot of the things you said right there. Even I have trouble distinguishing between fact and fiction sometimes and to think I used to trust The Young Turks as a source of news (not that I would trust InfoWars then, and I won't trust them now), and now, I'm more vigilant as to what news sources to trust. For me, wikileaks has become more trustworthy than it ever has been, (and I prefer it by far over infowars). That being said, I don't expect them always know what's going on or always be right, because insiders are hard to find and even then, they either don't know a lot about certain things or they're lying.

Also, I agree with you when you said that most people believe what fits the narrative. That, and emotional manipulation (that I've noticed, is now as common in the liberal media as it is on Sinclair and Fox News, it's scary) is why propoganda works, first conservative propoganda (mccarthyism), now liberal propoganda (progressivism, as in the movement, despite its name, is now regressive and is starting to resemble McCarthyism).

As for the training/schooling/knowledge, I have to disagree with you there because most journalists 35 years ago didn't have the training or schooling, but they did have the knowledge (like some alternative news outlets, obviously not all), and even those that did have training and schooling as well as knowledge had integrity, which is why I consider 1986-2001 the journalism renaissance.

Now journalism is becoming a club of elitists, many of whom ignore the other guys. Sorry, I get a little worked up over elitism in journalism as well as yellow journalism.

  17. If they were not relevant anymore, then they would cease to exist... So you're mistaken there.

Secondly: What the heck are you arguing about now? Biased and non-biased news sources exist for one reason or another (whether you like them or not). Construct some coherent sentences.

I'm just restating what Eat News said because I agree with him.

Also, I only said the mainstream media weren't that relevant, but yeah, I should've clarified this. The mainstream media is still relevant, however, just not as relevant as they were 10 (or even 5) years ago, especially the mediums they deliver content on (cable, TV), because with a lot of people younger than 40, why wait for the 6 o'clock news when you can get it online, some of which from alternative news outlets?

And last, I hate the elitism that has permeated journalism in the mainstream media's recent years, not listening to citizen journalists (which is why I consider Fresco and blogs to be godsends to journalism), or alternative media outlets just because they're not a part of the club known as mainstream journalism. Which leads me to this point that relates to that: Why does the mainstream media shove "diversity" down our throats when they themselves lack diversity in ideas and (yes that's right) race?

  18. The news media is obsessed with social media because it's free. Free to poach from, free to quote without attribution, free to use as an "unnamed source"...Free to post promo's, free to post opinions.

    One BIG free for all.

Which is great if you have no funds to actually get off your asses and really cover a real story. Why take weeks investigating something when you can just poach the websites of your political slant.

The media now "conspires" to impress friends because they are too lazy (social media) and too ashamed to truly cover their "friends".

The media has become fat and lazy...broke and bloated.

    Let some fail.

There are some budding no-biased news outlets kicking ass each day. They have small loyal followings and are becoming gems in a tainted media world.

If you look around...you will find them.

You must however have an open and very realistic mindset.

The reason why they became broke is because they aren't that relevant anymore, but yeah, I agreee with you, eapecially the part about that there are no-bias news outlets called alternative media, and many of them get shut out because of the elitism (not to mention their hypocrisy about diversity right down to lack of diversity in ideas, and yes, race) that permeates the mainstream media these days
