Of course. But if FTVLive is wrong about this issue, it'll make them look more like the TV industry's equivalent to TMZ (as if it doesn't look like that enough sometimes, at least to me).The original point still remains. If they are doing what they are said to be doing, it's illegal. Regardless of whether they get away with it or not. Also, Nexstar can't magically withhold which 6 stations they are selling. That matter has to be worked out and filed before the FCC will even consider approving the MG/Nexstar deal.- 2

They might've, but they won't tell us until after the spectrum auctionYeah you would think they would have all of that worked out, made public and filed with the FCC before sticking their paws in other issues. -
Most of which are conflictsThey do realize that they still have to sell at least 6 of the stations? -
And like Sinclair, they can get away with it.It's one thing for them to be working quietly behind the scenes with Media General to figure out how best to align processes "after" the sale goes through and to make the transition smooth. That is supposed to be the extent of things until the FCC approves. You are right, they are making it glaringly obvious. It's also glaringly illegal, if what they are doing is true. Also, call me a conspiracy theorist, but I still think Perry Sook paid a hitman to kill Media General's chairman (J. Stewart Bryan III) and make it look like an accident so that the merger could go through. And speaking of TV execs committing crimes, the last time any TV exec committed any crime that I know of was back in 1995 when David Smith was caught with a prostitute and had to serve community service. And he used WBFF to do so, which I would highly dissaprove, and so did the judge
-
Well, they obviously want to establish themselves quickly, sort of like Sinclair, but more glaringly obviousNexstar may already have their hands in the Media General Cookie Jar. They can't even wait until their summer station tour blitz to meddle with things. -
Still, "4 Warn" sounds better than thatpower of 4 was term trying to promote that they use 4 radars from the weather stations in florida -
Now what about the other former journal stations?
Yeah. Because "POWER OF 4" sounds like its better suited for sesame street or something else, not newscastsit sounds much better then "POWER OF 4 " -
Well, WTMJ has finnaly got Scripps' graphics after an entire YEAR has gone by with the Journal graphics.

So is the NBC 5 over here in the DFW area. http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/NBC-5-Responds-337257661.htmlWMAQ's onboard, too. -
In that case, has anyone got any info on whether KQUI will get news from KIII or a nearby Sinclair station (KABB or KGBT)?I still think that if/when KUQI gets news, it'll be from another Corpus Christi station (likely Tegna's KIII, which was going to offer news under the previous deal that fell through, before Sinclair swooped in) or from a Sinclair station in another Texas market, such as KGBT in Harlingen. To start their own operation, they'd have to build a whole new facility since their offices are in a cramped space in a downtown high-rise.- 1

And speaking of flagships, WJLA and its sister cable channel Newschannel 8 as of recently, are also Sinclair's flagship stationsFlagship station WBFF Fox 45 in Baltimore celebrates 45 years on air. Article includes video.http://foxbaltimore.com/news/cover-story/wbff-celebrates-45-years-on-air
Well, as much as an overkill as it is, like Mrtraveler01 has mentioned, they did manage to get a news operation on a station that lacked one.Talk about corporate spin
What about KQUI? Are they starting a news operation of their own?WTGS will be starting its own news operation this June.https://changingnewscasts.wordpress.com/2016/04/04/wtgs-starting-own-news-operation-thanks-sinclair/

Or will there? See, once Nexstar becomes Nexstar Media, they will have the bargaining power to make any of their larger stations become NBC affiliates (including yanking the NBC affiliation from KSL). And yes, KSTU and KUTV will still keep their affiliations regardless for reasons you've just stated. And in the case of KUTV, the conservative stance Sinclair gives it also helps it a lot considering that Utah is generally a conservative stateEven with pre-emptions, KSL will remain with NBC. I think FOX is happy with KSTU and their continued growth over the past 20 years, especially in terms of station's rise of being known in the state and their news operation's continued success and KUTV has turned out to be one of CBS' strongest affiliates, thanks to their recent domination in the ratings, combining that with CBS Primetime.ABC is probably the most unhappiest of networks in Utah since KTVX does very very poorly. However, with NBC actually being happy with KSL, despite their NBC pre-emptions, there will be NO affiliation switch for some time to come in Utah.
TEGNA is also one of CBS' strongest station groups since the former's inception from the split, then again seeing as how Media General (which is about 4-6 months away from being acquired by Nexstar) is also one of CBS' strongest station groups, I can see your point. However, let me clarify this once again. NBC has as good relations with Nexstar as Fox does with Sinclair that they invited Lester Holt into at least a couple of their NBC affiliatesNBC is NOT moving stations in PDX. KGW is one of NBC's strongest affils owned by one of NBC's strongest station groups, and they just reupped with the network not too long ago.http://www.myarklamiss.com/news/news/a-sit-down-with-nbc-news-anchor-lester-holt

Does Hartford really have no news choppers? If I had to guess, off-hand, I would say Hartford.- 1
-
As well as identifying more NBC affiliates for them (particularly in their larger markets, except WHAG and KRON 4 for reasons already known), because soon, KTVX will strip the NBC affiliation from KSL and the same goes for KOIN 6 which might also gain an NBC affiliation, among others. Sook is a member of the NBC affiliates group and Nexstar has as good relations with NBC as Sinclair does with Fox.Gotta get the lay of the land so they can start identifying budget cuts .... -
Both, but mostly by caravan.Ah, a good ol'-fashioned road trip! Will it be by party bus or caravan? -
I don't think they do that, but at least Fox 7 and/or KVUE should get a news chopperBecause they just attach a Gopro to a Mosquito to save money.- 1
-
And speaking of news choppers, why doesn't Fox 7 over in Austin or even KVUE have one?

Then why was KTXD exempted by management? If WFAA were to get a sister station, I think it's more likely/realistic they'd wind up with London Broadcasting's KTXD. Tegna bought most of the rest of London's stations a few years ago. -
And KDVR would fully absorb KWGN's news operation. That sounds reasonable, but IF they do buy KWGN, Channel 2 would have shut down its news department in favor of newscasts produced by KCNC.
TEGNA could also get some of their smaller stations (with them it's #40 or smaller) that don't conflict with any of their stations (but not the KFOR/KAUT duopoly).Regarding Tegna and the Tribune stations, there are several they could pick up easily as duopoly pieces without touching the cap and at a fairly low price, in Washington DC (although it breaks up a news partnership), Houston, Dallas and Portland OR (if the FCC permits such).- 1
-
Which explains why Gracia Matore, the CEO of TEGNA, clarified that they aren't going to make any big purchases anytime soonMardek.....With the recent slew of buyouts to try and help settle their long term financials, to the point that right now as it stands currently, they are under a lot of debt (close to $4.5B). For them to add Tribune to the mix would be corporate suicide. No shareholder is willing to shoulder that much debt! Tribune for all intents and purposes are the most unique group in that they do own some major affiliates but they also own stations in DMA's 1-4 and those stations alone don't come cheap! If they ended up deciding to buy them, the debt load for the new Tegna would double to a point that shareholders would find it completely unsustainable -
Or best of all, Tribune could sell all of its stations to different groups like Newport did.I'm hoping that TEGNA decides to not buy the stations that could harm the purchase, and instead keep it to Tribune for it to be acquired by either Cox or Hearst.
As much as it seems like a reasonable claim, how exactly do you know this?TEGNA is NOT buying another station group anywhere in the near future.I will eat a Trump steak if they even show interest in one within the next 24 months.
-
Which is why I mentioned that they'd have to divest at least half of Tribune's stations to 3rd partiesIf TEGNA does plan to buy Tribune Broadcasting, TV stations in Seattle, St Louis, Denver, Norfolk, and more are doomed to the FCC's duopoly rule.- 2
-
And ironically, Tribune Media had no debt upon splitting, but is struggling so much that they might not be able to renew the CW affiliation agreement by this summerAnd yet the TEGNA, with the TV and digital assets, has a better chance of being able to service it's debt. -
Then at why doesn't any of the fox O&O stations at least use their mynet stations for overflow of news, or on the occasion that any program (more than likely a football game that starts at about 8 colonial time, 7 central time) that flows into the time period where their (mynet stations) senior partners would normally air their newscasts?Except for maybe WWOR, which requires "news programming" of some sort due to licensing, the reasoning is that it would cannibalize the ratings for their Fox sister stations.
