I could see such scenario but the thing is though Shepard is 56 and Lester is 61 so both of them are only 5 years apart

I won't go much further into speculation beyond what I will say though but if say Lester continued to do NN until 70 (so for another 8 and a half to 9 years) Smith would be 64 to 65 by the time he would step into the NN chair (assuming Smith is the successor to Holt).

I have to wonder what other options NBC has for Lester's replacement beyond Shep?

They have Savannah, Craig, Chuck and Katy.

Wow, thats awful. I hope he gets better soon! I remember that was the very newscast that groomed me into my interest into WABC and the news in general. Especially after school during my childhood. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Apparently Rob is making a recovery. It’s very slow although it looks like he will make it.

During this COVID period, I’ve seen both the weeknight anchors and morning anchors introduce conferences in the 1pm hour at KYW. The switchoff must be during that hour. Not sure about WCBS, but KYW’s 4pm anchors have been out in the field reporting during the COVID period. The 5/6/11pm anchors usually rotate solo anchoring all those shows including the 4pm.

Maurice and Kristine alternate anchoring from the studio for the 5 and 11pm newscasts. The other anchor broadcasts from home. At 6 Dana Tyler broadcasts from home and either Maurice or Kristine broadcasts from the studio.

How long are some of these morning news anchor shifts? I've been seeing Mary Calvi introduce the Phil Murphy press briefings during Y&R at 1 pm. Being that AM anchors shift would start prior to 4:30 a.m. , I would have assumed that they'd be off work by now.

I’ve seen Mary at the studio as late as after 4pm some days. I presume she has a break somewhere in the afternoon.

Deadline: White House has been starting at 3:30pm for the last week so I wonder if this is the signs it might expand to two hours maybe 3–5p.

Chuck has also been doing the 1pm hour after Andrea I am thinking they might move. MTP Daily to that slot and make Katy  Tur 2 hours between chuck and Nicolle. Put Joshua Johnson in at 5pm.

That’s possible although Katy would still only have the 2pm hour if Chuck was at 1 and Nicole started at 3. Also why is Brian Williams co-anchoring with Katy? Possible move to afternoons so Shep Smith can take his spot if/when he join?

I don’t see that happening. Isn’t the 4th hour of Today pretty successful and generally more popular than the 3rd hour? Plus the show’s arch rival is eagerly finding opportunities to expand their current 2-hour format.

Then at the very least put the forth hour on at the third hours time and get rid of the third hour. Have Hoda just do the third/forth hour and make Craig Melvin a co-anchor.

Morgan hosted this morning and I agree that she'd be a better fit than any of the political correspondents: Hallie Jackson and Kristen Welker.

Yes. It’s too bad that Morgan wasn’t the pick.

This afternoon: Rafael Miranda is in for Dave and Janice. So Rafa at 4, 5, 6 and 11.

PS: My money is still on Rafael for mornings at TINY.

    Who did 11 today?

I would think so as well although usually the weekend evening weatherperson fills in on evenings. Could Erica get TINY and Rafael be moving to weekends? Anything is possible.

Do you realize that you posted the same exact thing about 14 hours apart. Your repetitiveness all over the NY boards is becoming annoying.

As to the topic at hand, I actually would like to see Mike either take over for Bill or David. Mike’s young and has plenty of experience, and is great at what he does. I like Joe, but like Sandra, he’s better on weekends and as a weekday fill-in. His personality just doesn’t scream “lead anchor” material.

It was a mistake. I’ll warn you that I can be just as rude as you are. David likely won’t be retiring anytime soon. Not sure about  Bill.

They are incredibly rarely used. I'm not sure I've ever seen it before.

Regardless, Diana's retirement date is September 12. I don't think that's a date picked out of thin air or because of Shirleen being out. Simpler, it's probably so she can do 9-11 coverage, something I'm sure means a lot.

That’s probably why. Diana should co-anchor the 9/11 coverage with Bill this year. Perhaps she will.

Mike Marza will be filling in for Joe Torres this weekend.

Interesting. Perhaps when Bill retires which could be a few years off still Mike will take over for Joe and Joe will take over for Bill.

Looks like WABC brought back the 5pm talent open. For years now, it has just been the short intro to quickly transition between the 4pm and 5pm newscasts. I wonder if they are doing this as a nod to Diana Williams. She returned from vacation today for her final 10 weeks before she retires.

My guess is Diana is back these 10 weeks as a favor for WABC so they aren’t too terribly short staffed while Shirleen takes maternity leave. Perhaps she will fill in at noon st some point and reunite with Sam

Option B is most likely what is going to happen with someone new taking over Rafael spot on weekend mornings.

My guess is that Rafael will take over TINY and someone will take his spot on weekend mornings. Erica probably takes over for Janice whenever she retires.

Actually, seven years; the crash to #3 came after Dan exchanged verbal fisticuffs with George H.W. Bush in 1988.

I believe in 93 was the closet CBS came to dropping Dan from the CBSEN before they actually did in 2005.

Ratings for CBS This Morning are down 21% since its relaunch.

Ratings for all the morning shows are down compared to last year, however, CBS has suffered the biggest losses.

Compared to the same week last year,  ABC was -4% in total viewers, NBC was -4% in total viewers, while CBS was -9%. In the A25-54 demo, ABC was -10%, NBC was -11% and CBS -17% vs. the comparable week last year.”

It’s still early but my feeling is this won’t end well. My guess is 2-3 years tops and then this team is dissolved. Perhaps Tony will then join Katy at MSNBC. This could be why Jeff agreed to co-anchor CBS Saturday Morning again. Perhaps he sees a chance to co-host cbs this morning in a few years.
