Don't want to speak negatively on this. However, Ann Curry and Anderson Cooper won't bring the ratings for CTM to #1 status. The days of Harry Smith and Paula Zahn are long over. CTM has gotten better throughout the years. However, most of the younger audience and your 25-54 audience are watching GMA and Today. You could have all the new technology, new graphics. However, what's missing with CTM is that old 59th and 5th location and among other things.

Nora: Excellent journalist. Evening news will see a bump slightly in the ratings. Will definitely have work to do with Lester (NBC), and David (ABC).

Anderson Cooper is best in prime time. Ann Curry would have been best off if she was passed over for Today after Meredith V left and Savannah took over in 2011. Then Ann could have focused on Dateline and perhaps when Brian Williams got axed from Nightly News Ann could have taken over.

In this situation WNBC would likely keep this in house.

Bold underline: I could see this possibly happening also. However, definitely Dave and Rafael getting bumped up.

What does Dave get bumped up to if Rafael gets TINY? No one thinks Erica gets a promotion? I see Erica as Janice’s replacement when she goes. I don’t rule out Bill Evans taking over. Why not? Because I would think WNBC would announce Chris replacement along with his retirement announcement. Perhaps WNBC dumped Chris for Bill especially with Sam Champion at WABC. Maybe it’s a forced retirement. Just a possibility.

  3. Ann Curry would have been better off remaining on dateline and as the newsreader on today. Had she held out another 4 years she might have currently been anchoring nightly news.

As for Campbell Brown perhaps if she stuck around until 2011 she would have been co-anchor of today.

  4. How long do you all think Sam will last? Part of me thinks this might not be a long term project for him. I like Sam but sometimes I feel like going to the past is just not accepting that things change. Did WABC seek to have Spencer Christian rejoin when Sam left? I’m actually asking that question seriously.

  5. Here’s the list I have of WABC westhercaster. 1970s: Tex Antone. 1976: Storm Field. 1980: Storm Field and Joe Witte. 1981 to 1982: Storm Field and Voss. 1982 to 1988: Storm and Dr. Bill. 1988: Storm and Sam. 1989:  Storm, Sam and Bill And Art. 1990: Sam, Bill and Art. 1992: Sam and Bill. 1993-1996: Sam, Bill and Veronica. 1996-2004 Sam, Bill And Lee. 2004: Sam, Bill, Lee and Anderson. 2005-2006: Sam, Bill, Lee and Heidi. 2006-2011: Lee, Bill, Heidi and Jeff. 2011: Lee, Bill, Jeff and Amy. 2019: Lee, Sam, Jeff and Amy.

It's Fathers Day Weekend, may not be easy as it sounds.

Joe Witte was brought in for a few months in 1980-1981....did not apparently go well. He was replaced by Valerie Voss, who had worked at CBS Morning News in 1980 for four months before being replaced by Gordon Barnes. Voss was fired in January 1982. Gutsch worked part time in July 1982 talking about lunar events. He was such a hit in July 1982 in the ratings that they signed him in September to take the spot.

They couldn’t ask Sam to remain in NY for the weekend to fill in or for Amy or Lee to fill in? Then again maybe Spencer has family in NY that he wanted to visit and it worked out well for all parties.

I wonder if Spencer was considered to replace Bill.

Interesting that Joe Witte didn’t do well at WABC or apparently WCBS although at WNBC he lasted for over 15 years. I heard he’s very awkward. Valerie Voss didn’t go so well either. WABC has at least on three occasions not had a regular weekend weather person unless I’m mistaken. I believe this was the case in 1982 for a few months, from 1988 to 1989 as well as from 1992 to 1993.

Where does Ira Joe Fisher fit into the equation? Was he not on weekends?

I believe he was the 5pm weathercaster for a few years.

  8. 60 minutes doesn’t have room for an unlimited amount of reporters. Steve Kroft retired and they went for John Dickerson. Jeff I suppose agreed to so CBS This Mornings Saturday edition because either he wouldn’t have that opportunity at another network or he’s still under contract with CBS and for all we know if another shake up happens at CTM he will get a spot there.

  9. I wouldn’t be shocked if after 2-3 years Gail and Anthony are replaced with Kaity Tur from MSNBC if the ratings tank and she and Tony become co-host and CBS attempts to make them a Joe and Mike whom supposedly they considered hiring years ago.

  10. If the allegations against Tom Brokaw of sexual harassment are true then which Male Alumni from the today show will appear for the 70th anniversary in 2022? Matt Lauer I don't think will be invited, Bryant Gumbel I can't imagine never sexually harassed anyone while at NBC, same for Al Roker so that leaves us with Jim Hartz who was co-host for a very brief period of time and High Downs who will be 100 if he's still alive.

  11. Exactly. If Lester is a witness in a trial that's on virtually every network that's around I can't imagine he'd be able to anchor NN while a part of the story. If that happened he can be off NN for several months or perhaps even longer. He would probably still do Dateline shows that were of a different subject matter tho it would be unprecedented for a Network Anchorperson to be off a newscast for an extended period of time due to being part of a major news story tho it would be necessary especially with all the cries of fake news out there today.

That might happen, we will see if we get to that point.

  12. On a separate but related note I can see Lester being a witness for Mueller and if that's the case he might have to recuse himself from some or perhaps even all of NBC's special coverage regarding the Mueller investigation at some point.
