  1. That is so true with Brian Williams. I think Lester is doing NBC a favor cause if he were to step down or go to another network, then we will definitely see a down trend. Also evening news is to predictable and we are living in a disruptive age where news can happen while you are watching your evening newscast. I think sooner or later then evening news will have to evolve.
  2. I have never been a fan of the Today show since they got rid of Ann Curry however, people have outgrown network morning news and also local affiliate news. We are living in a digital age and people are not watching much traditional news anymore. People are going to places where they can get their news unfiltered. Today show is nothing but commericals.
  3. I think the ratings business is outdated cause not everyone is watching traditional television as much. People look at programming through their computers. I don't know how important ratings is when it comes to evening news but his newscast is still doing very well. He is winning the younger demographic according to Neilsen numbers. However not everything is Neilsen, people also DVR his newscast and also he is streaming on mobile devices. So, I think the ratings notion is outdated and just another form of bragging rights. Also I think the evening news format will have to evolve in the future, it is kind of outdated knowing the time we are living in with constant disruption.
  4. Weekend Today and Today show has not been the same since he got promoted. He made morning television watchable and less self centered. You could tell his female co-anchors loved being around him. Weekend Today had their best renaissance when Lester was the host. In some ways I feel that NBC does not deserve him. I love seeing Lester on both evening and morning news also he did cable news. That triple threat ability to do any form of hosting and news, is so rare. Lester was far ahead of everybody on the Today show however, politics and politics. There is a reason why all the good anchors like Campbell, Soledad O' Brien etc all left NBC. However, NBC management must've fought very hard to keep Lester from leaving they knew they had a gem.
  5. NBC has shown that they are a narrow minded, dumb organization with no ethics. Oust the good honest journalist like Ann out of a job and keep the pervert and sexual abuser Lauer. However now that we are in 2018, what NBC did wrong with Megyn Kelly was overvalue her stock. They should've known that not everybody was going to warm up to her that easily. Megyn Kelly is nowhere near the level of a Lester Holt, Oprah, in terms of likablilty and audience trust. NBC treated her like she was someone who had an powerful brand but she really did not. She was in a bubble at Fox News and she was nothing more but eye candy to Fox News male viewership. Once you leave the Fox News cocoon, she would have to work to appeal to a mass diverse audience. How can she relate to young women, African Americans, Hispanics and LGBTQ community. If you look at her audience there is not much diversity. Whereas you look at Wendy Williams, The Real, Ellen, and even Steve Harvey there is a diverse studio audience and an audience that is lively and looks happy to be there.
  6. It would make sense to move Hoda to third hour for her to have a seamless transition. I don't care how much these network hosts complain, they are getting it much better then other people who do more for less. They also need to consider using Sheinelle Jones as a possible replacement to KLG. Sheinelle does very well in that format and I heard that she was a hit in Philadelphia.
  7. Nightly News numbers started ticking down when Brian Williams was still in charge and Muir started beating Williams in demo and viewership. When it started ticking down that was when scandal about Williams lying came in. Nightly News got a big bump when Lester took over in fact Lester was beating ABC triple the viewership then around late 2017, the numbers started to slip at Nightly News. I think part of it was due NBC's scandals with Weinstein, Lauer and also the hiring of Megyn Kelly. I think part of it is affliliate numbers. At my hometown ABC affiliate is highest rated and also carryover is important. Muir is benefiting from cross-over appeal such as being on GMA, making appearences on Kelly Ripa etc. Also where are the places where Muir is getting better ratings from, is he benefiting from coastal cities or middle America. Also let's be honest, NBC has been very biased in their reporting. Lester Holt is not the problem but when you have biased reporters from MSNBC carry onto main network in this hyperpolitical time, it will turn off a lot of people. That is why I believe that NBC Nightly News has to limit the reporters who are on MSNBC.
  8. Willie has no personality and he is overrated. Willie is not a newsman(journalist) he is a studio doll. He got ahead cause of his daddy Bill Geist. A real newsman is a journalist who is not afraid to cover hard news, go to the front lines, be among the people to get the story. Lester Holt, Richard Engel, Scott Pelley, David Muir, are real newsmen. Willie Geist does not do any of that, he stays in the studio, reads the teleprompter and stays bland.
  9. Network morning television is on the decline overall in local and morning shows. To me, Today show went downhill a long time ago when they ousted Ann Curry. I don't pay much attention to the Today show anymore. I don't get the big deal with Willie Geist, he has no personality and not even a real newsman. His Sunday show is very boring. Weekend Today is non existent, I am not a fan of Craig Melvin, his voice is a turn off and he is not relatable.
  10. Apparently there is speculation that NBC might change Megyn Kelly's time slot. They should've done this the first day of her new show of putting in the 10AM hour. https://pagesix.com/2018/06/11/nbc-mulls-moving-megyn-kelly-today-to-a-new-time-slot/
  11. I heard a lot of good things about Lester Holt, he seems like a down to earth decent guy that is not caught up in the ego like other people in his profession. That since of down to earth demeanor will take him far and make him greater in his career. He is the only anchor on tv that has the human touch. what I always like about him is his straight shoot style of reporting. His way of speaking and presenting the news is so pinpointed. He speaks to his viewers he does not talk down to them. I am a long time news junkie and Lester Holt is by far the greatest news anchor of this era. Everyone else is caught up in wanting to sound fancy, smart and "educated" and they wonder why mainstream media approval is at an all time low. Stop the self grandeur and just present people with information.
  12. Not really cause NBC is more left since they have their cousin network MSNBC. The sharing of talent on that network impacts the perception of NBC News network. CBS is better cause not all their content is the same. CBS programming is different from the other. I like the slower paced CBS Sunday Morning you don't get that from the other networks which is nothing but cotton candy.
  13. CBS is better then NBC and ABC which is more obvious however conservative news outlets are bias as well. What I am insulted with is how mainstream media works to dumb us down.Evening news covers the news that happened in 9AM. Why can't they come up with other news besides doing the same script. This just shows how fixed the news media has gotten. Catering to viewers, my foot. Most viewers are tune to what happened today but the evening news stays in the same box. Also, they work to stir your emotions not inform you why do you think things are so hyperpartisan. We are not living in an informative society but an emotional one that the mainsteam media continues to exploit.
  14. I don't believe he should lose his job. Does not matter who you put on that network, the real issue that evening news does not want to address is that people see the evening news as formulaic and the same. Digital disruption has taken over traditional broadcasting and people don't feel obligated to do appointment television anymore. It is sign of the times, there is nothing wrong with Jeff Glor.
  15. This is the reason why NBC is a disorganized mismanaged network. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/nbc-news-faces-skepticism-in-remedying-in-house-sexual-harassment/2018/04/26/7fa8a666-4979-11e8-8b5a-3b1697adcc2a_story.html?utm_term=.95737c4bc6e0
  16. I did not know you followed, observed or cared what I said so much or what places I go. I am not talking about you, so you should not take it personally.
  17. I think majority of it is affiliate related, cause where I live my ABC affiliate has the higher ratings. Most people don't change the channel cause they will end up getting the same news. Also the bad press that NBC got with Matt Lauer really impacted NBC and also the hiring of Megyn Kelly. A good number of viewers probably got tired of NBC's drama.
  18. That might happen, we will see if we get to that point.
  19. Why are you so triggered? Do you work at NBC? I can say whatever criticism I want as long as I am not hurting anybody.
  20. I am glad to see Lester putting more of a voice and personality in presenting a story in his broadcast. It is his broadcast, and NBC should have a booker and have him get interviews and special segments. The evening news needs originality. I think Andrew Lack needs to let go of the leash and let Lester be his own man and stop making him pay for Brian Williams problems. I think NBC should do a closing credit of different cities around the country. One night they do a closing credit of the Washington DC and the next night the city of Denver and the other night city of Houston. Lester says that the evening news should reflect the country so they should include the different cities in the country. I am tired of the NYC and DC bubble. To me I think the evening news is running faster cause they are putting more stories in a 10 minute compression before first commerical break. However, I have a problem with some of the reporters, I think they talk to much. It is that MSNBC school of talking too much and saying very little in a broadcast like evening news 1 minute is like 5 minutes. I think NBC needs to divorce itself slightly from some MSNBC reporters. I don't have a problem with the reporters personally but I think some of them lack good concise reporting skills for a network.I think Kasie Hunt, Kelly O Donnell and Kristen Welker should be permanent political reporters for Nightly News. They are the best reporters for Nightly News. The other political reporters try to hard to get their camera time more then focusing on the story. The dramatic storytelling approach is getting old and each reporter sounds alike whether it be hard news or human feature. They need to change the tempo of each story.
  21. Lester is universally respected among a lot of viewer and the NBC staff and a stalwart for the network, he is the go to guy and has all the qualifications. You can't just get someone without there being a backlash. There is really nobody at NBC that qualifies to be an evening news anchor. If Lester decides to leave, there are networks that are willing to hire him in a heart beat. NBC just has to manage Lester better by giving him better bookings and more access to various projects and let him become a managing director. He s very rounded where he can various forms of news and genres, yet he is given one dimensional position at Nightly News. Let Lester interview various people besides just politicians, have him do special assignments for Nightly News. For example, a trip through heartland America or an exploration through China.
  22. I thought Nightly had their own seperate control room. How do you like the new Nightly News studio? It has been in effect, I believe for six or eight months now.
  23. I think NBC does not even want to think about a replacement. Lester is highly valued at NBC, he brings stability, steadiness and respectability to the network and they will find a way to keep him at NBC as long as they can. Also Lester is universally respected by viewers so him leaving NBC would impact the brand and if goes to another network, that network will only benefit. Lester is not only popular at Nightly News but also Dateline. Dateline is the most popular newsmagazine and has grown in it's younger viewership during Lester's tenure.
  24. I wonder if that is now finally affecting them now cause Lester is not Brian Williams nor should he have to pay for Williams scandal. People are very preceptive and can read in between the lines and some viewers on Twitter and Facebook think that Lester is being controlled more then leading the newscast himself.
  25. Lester is back and he looks good, I am noticing they are trying to make changes to the evening news. They are bringing back the preview ticker and they have a Nightly rundown. To me they should make the newscast more faster pace and hard hitting with more dramatic music. The political reporters on NBC Nightly News like Hallie Jackson, Peter Alexander talk too much, they can say one thing in two seconds where it takes them 30 seconds and take off the pace from the news cast and I wonder if viewers are getting tired of these political reporters. I remember when Lester had his own show on MSNBC, his show was hard hitting, fast pace and militaristic dramatic. I think Nightly News needs to do that and let Lester do more transitions into his newscast. Nightly News is letting these reporters dictate the pace too much on the newscast. David Muir's program he controls the pace of the newscast. I wonder if Lester is still being pushed down cause of what Brian Williams did, to me I feel like NBC is not letting the news anchor have full control over his own newscast. When Lester first started out in 2015, the newscast felt faster pace and more pinpointed. Now maybe with producer changes it feels more medium slow pace.
