"ATX Uncensored(ish)" -- a comedy newscast that had been airing on CW affiliate KNVA in Austin -- has been canceled. The show didn't even make it a year. The timing -- just before Nexstar is set to finalize the Media General merger -- is interesting. http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2016/07/01/the-cw-austin-cancels-atx-uncensoredish/

HUGE anchor shakeup at Tegna's KHOU/Houston, affecting pretty much every newscast. Worth noting: the new morning anchor is the ND's hubby http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/06/khou-11-makes-major-anchor-changes.html

I guess ... WXIA and WGCL were tied at 6 am in February. WGCL is trending up; WXIA is trending down. https://atlanta.daybooknetwork.com/media/story/51/51899/documents/WSB-TV%20Feb%202016.pdf

From evening anchor at an O&O in NYC to anchor of the 4th place morning show in Atlanta? Ouch!

I still think that if/when KUQI gets news, it'll be from another Corpus Christi station (likely Tegna's KIII, which was going to offer news under the previous deal that fell through, before Sinclair swooped in) or from a Sinclair station in another Texas market, such as KGBT in Harlingen. To start their own operation, they'd have to build a whole new facility since their offices are in a cramped space in a downtown high-rise.

Gotta get the lay of the land so they can start identifying budget cuts ....

They didn't want to get out of the TV business completely. At some point that will change.- 3678 replies

If WFAA were to get a sister station, I think it's more likely/realistic they'd wind up with London Broadcasting's KTXD. Tegna bought most of the rest of London's stations a few years ago.- 3678 replies

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
Greggo replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
KVUE did get hit hard. Their news director, chief meteorologist, chief engineer (who helped sign the station on in the 1970s), a news producer, local sales manager and longtime receptionist were among those who took buyouts. Couple that with their GM and main male anchor leaving next month (unrelated to the buyouts) and some serious rebuilding is required. They also lost their storm chaser in the high floodwaters this week. Not a good time at KVUE.- 3678 replies

Add KHOU weekend meteorologist Mario Gomez to the list. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/04/mario-gomez-other-staffers-to-leave-khou-11.html On the 40 percent tax bill, if they took it as a lump sum, that makes sense. If they're going to continue to be paid every two weeks, as they are now, until they reach the total number of weeks they're entitled to, taxes should stay about the same.- 3678 replies

One interesting tidbit: The people who take the buyouts can NEVER work for a TEGNA station again. Seems rather extreme.- 3678 replies

Could this be a sign Fox is going to put KICU in the spectrum auction? Of all the SF stations, it has one of the highest values on the FCC list. KTVU Plus on 2.2 or 2.3 makes way more sense than KTVU Plus on 36, IMHO. Seems like that'd be confusing to viewers.

Tegna allowed GMs to exempt some people from the buyouts. Many stations exempted the on-air people. KVUE didn't exempt anyone, thus the exodus we are seeing now.

Another departure at KVUE/Austin ... chief meteorologist Mark Murray is taking the Tegna buyout. He's been there 26 years. http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2016/04/11/meteorologist-mark-murray-leaving-kvue-after-26-years/

KPRC/Houston does news at 4 and has Extra at 4:30. KSAT/San Antonio airs Inside Edition at 4 followed by Entertainment Tonight at the highly unusual time of 4:30. Both stations are owned by Graham Media.

A total TEGNA meltdown of what was a #1 station. Sad. http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2016/04/05/kvue-news-director-leaving-after-16-years/

Patti Smith, general manager of KVUE/Austin (Tegna) for the past 17 years and a Texas broadcasting legend, is leaving the station in May. http://www.mystatesman.com/news/business/kvue-general-manager-departing-after-17-years/nqsNQ/

Surprising to see a station as strong as WCVB make such a knee-jerk decision.

Agreed. A partnership seems more likely then starting from scratch. There's the cost of hiring a staff, plus they'd likely have to move. They're currently in a small office on the 19th floor of a downtown Corpus office building. With multiple stations in town already sharing one newsroom -- CBS/NBC/CW/KDF (Independent) -- it'd have to be with KIII (Tegna/ABC). Back when it was still under London Broadcasting ownership, KIII was planning to run KUQI after National Communications took over. That deal, of course, never materialized. So talks could, in theory, pick up where they left off. I still think there's a possibility an out-of-town Sinclair station could be enlisted tho. Stay tuned ...
-
The bigger question is ... will KUQI get a news department of its very own? Or at least partner with another Corpus Christi station -- or a nearby Sinclair station, such as KGBT in Harlingen -- to finally put a 9 p.m. newscast on the air?

Allison Miller, the morning news anchor at KEYE in Austin, was originally one of their meteorologists. She still fills in from time to time. In Houston, going the opposite way, Khambrel Marshall at KPRC was originally the 4 pm anchor before taking a behind the scenes job. During that time he went to school to get his weather degree and he is now the weekend evening meteorologist, in addition to hosting their weekly public affairs show, Newsmakers.
