  1. Isn’t NBC News Daily live from noon to 4 Eastern? If so, the 3p hour they’ll be airing should be live instead of a repeat. Repeating a 3-hour-old newscast in the middle of the day seems a bit … risky, especially for an O&O in such a large market.
  2. And what about overnights? They re-air Access, Access Live and Kelly. More Dateline?
  3. Looks (and sounds) super cheap
  4. It’s election time … and that means WSB is bringing back the 3p news to cram in as many ads as possible, starting Monday. With Kelly Clarkson ending, perhaps it’ll stick around this time.
  5. Painful. The ticker telling people “You are watching WISH-TV Indianapolis” is laughable. If you’re gonna fire everyone, just simulcast.
  6. Things are starting to get lean (read: interesting) in Austin already. The KVUE (ex Tegna) weather team will be down to just 2 people (weekday morning and weekday evening) at the end of next week. One met (weekend evening) left last month for WUSA, now another (weekend morning) is leaving and doesn’t appear to have anything lined up just yet. Neither job is posted. (They do still have — for now at least — a morning reporter who is working on her met degree.) Are they going to lean on their new sister station KXAN, which is already down a met after a recent retirement (they still have 4 though, plus occasional fill-in Jim Spencer) or maybe the Nexstar weather center out of Dallas? Curious if this is the start of an on-air KVUE/KXAN consolidation. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0T8A5PKFejGsSfLWtdQ4re4DyoEF6pModbG1uJvGqp5HqwVhd1UrnzDbyBbGHtSNZl&id=100063664986586

  8. An insane amount of technical errors. On the debut day, they were in the middle of a live report on a fire that killed 3 kids and the automation dumped them out into a 3-minute commercial break at 4:03p … right after the show had just started. They came back, apologized, and had to start all over again. Double boxes randomly showed up during a weather hit (the news anchor was looking down and had no clue he was on camera), no audio off the top of the newscast, going to black for 30ish seconds, reporters who clearly don’t know they’re live on air (one guy was chit-chatting with a state trooper passing him in a parking lot as he was being introduced and the anchor had to introduce him a second time to get his attention), etc. They’re using an extremely condensed version of the new open that seems unnecessarily rushed and they are also alternating the same three transitions/wipes over and over and over again before each story. It has just been really, really bad quality from a station that has never had widespread issues like this before.
  9. KVUE/Austin debuted them today. It’s been *very* rough.
  10. So is Micah gonna go solo in the evenings? Or does Ben get moved to anchor with her? Weekend mornings I assume will now be solo, too. Weekend evening weather will be … per diem?
  11. Not quite sure what it is, but the WFAA doesn’t “work” for me. I don’t think it fits the station’s long-standing image.
  12. KPRC/Houston plucks the main anchor from its San Antonio sister station, KSAT: Stephania Jimenez https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2025/12/stephania-jimenez-joins-kprc-2-from.html
  13. Sure sounds like they might be buyouts, timing-wise
  14. Looks like they axed 2 managers, as well. Feels like budget cuts maybe, but they just posted like 10 new news jobs a couple weeks ago. So … things don’t really add up. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2025/10/owen-conflenti-leaves-kprc-2-houston.html
  15. Get ready for Circle City News Now. Yuck.
  16. I think WDSU has the best implementation of this
  17. Wow. Barely a month (8/20) after they “officially” announced he’d been given the job. What in the world are they going to do now? WWL, WGNO and Fox 8 (especially) all aired the story. Fox 8 also plastered it on Facebook at least 4 times today. The local paper picked it up. I don’t think he can come back from this. They’re going to have to move on. Derek did the evening weather tonight. Don’t see him getting it permanently tho. Soooooo … a newcomer? Margaret has been doing political endorsements for Helena Moreno, so she can’t really come back to temporarily fill in … at least until after the election, if she even wants to. Damon left after they hosed him. WDSU is in a pickle.
  18. Their chief meteorologist Dan Henry has announced (possibly prematurely) that weekend meteorologist Ali Turiano will take over for Evan. I figured they’d go with Kylie
  19. Many — but not all — portions of the WFXT morning and early afternoon newscasts are recorded and replayed. FTV mentioned it when they started doing it about a year ago. Trying to watch for more than about an hour is painful. When I was in Boston a few months ago, it was pretty cringe.
  20. Geez they shafted KEYE. All these other Sinclair sets, while not spectacular, look immensely better.
  21. Ok, yes … their “World News” is cringey. Comical in its attempts to emulate ABC. And the anchor is totally trying to sound like Muir, which is just sad. I didn’t think it would be this bad.
  22. Apparently WHNT wants people to switch to another station. The same VO playing over and over and over again is maddening. Just put up a fullscreen and leave it at that. I will say I was impressed by WAFB. Looks like they started their news a few minutes early rather than allowing the dead air.
  23. The Fox O&O cuts have hit Austin. KTBC has let go one evening anchor and one morning anchor. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2025/06/rebecca-thomas-leaves-fox-7-austin.html
