  1. Ridiculous!!! How much money do those 2 layoffs even save? $50k? Maybe $60k max? That's nothing.
  2. KLFY doesn't really have a helicopter of its own. They have a deal where they get to ride on Acadian Ambulance's medical helicopter to shoot video for big stories, provided it's not needed to transport patients. They used to promote the hell out of it. Doesn't sound like it's being used as much anymore.
  3. Good god PLEASE let Nexstar give KLFY a new logo. PLEASE!
  4. Cheapskates! Same thing they did after acquiring KLAS. Do any other former Media General stations have choppers cuz, if so, they're next.
  5. KXAN/Austin expands its noon newscast and its lifestyle show "Studio 512" to an hour each starting Monday. Right now both are 30 minutes. http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/03/23/kxan-expanding-noon-news-studio-512/
  6. I know that, at least based on opinions I've seen here, some love him and some hate him, but I did want to point out that Charlotte media columnist Mark Washburn is leaving the Observer. Hopefully they will still cover ratings and local comings and goings. http://businessnc.com/charlotte-observer-taps-new-editor-amid-media-industry-turbulence/
  7. I can't believe Russ Lewis "liked" some of the posts from angry viewers criticizing him and and his wife, the ND. That seems rather tacky. All it does is further upset viewers of a station whose newscasts are in 3rd place in many timeslots. Not smart.
  8. Do they have 2 studios and 2 control rooms? Can they go live on both channels at the same time?
  9. Even more news in San Antonio. We already knew about KSAT's upcoming expansion. Now, KABB and WOAI are adding more news, as well: http://www.mysanantonio.com/entertainment/entertainment_columnists/jeanne_jakle/article/Three-S-A-TV-stations-adding-more-local-news-10986069.php?cmpid=fb-desktop
  10. This post from the local paper says they're filling those spots that FTV mentions ... http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/03/07/brittany-glas-joins-kxans-investigative-team/
  11. Question: Nexstar by and large doesn't subscribe to Nielsen. Anyone know if they've told the Media General stations to stop subscribing? If so, sweeps numbers in a growing number of markets are gonna be jacked.
  12. KVHP initially served both Lake Charles and Beaumont. Then, the same company (National Communications) launched KUIL to serve Beaumont. This, among other things, allowed them to target ads to just Beaumont viewers and let KVHP carry Saints games in Lake Charles and KUIL carry Cowboys games in Beaumont instead of having to choose one or the other. Eventually, KBTV flipped from NBC to Fox, taking the affiliation away from KUIL.
  13. In Austin, the newly acquired NBC affiliate (KXAN) is airing it at 5 pm Saturday and their sister CW station (KNVA) is running it at 9:30 pm Saturday. Is the special pay to play, a la your typical local lifestyle show? Or just a chance to grab extra ad dollars?
  14. KSDK/St. Louis anchor Mike Rush heading home to Texas to anchor at Tegna sister station KVUE/Austin http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/02/02/kvue-hires-tyler-sieswerdas-replacement/
  15. Seattle's KING 5 plucks an Austin meteorologist to handle weeknight weather duties http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/01/26/jordan-steele-leaving-cbs-austin-for-seattle-gig/
  16. Since Nexstar doesn't have a station in Dallas, they'd have to fly/drive somewhere. CRM is a for-rent studio in Dallas. Last broadcast they did, they actually did hit the road and originated from KXAN in Austin, a former LIN/Media General station they've now gobbled up.
  17. Looks like they're still not producing in house. That anchor and meteorologist are both based out of KETK in Tyler.
  18. Prolly not long, sadly. They've had a year to figure out all the names and technical details.
  19. Awesome. Cuz, you know, homegrown TD Jakes has done so well for Tegna.
  20. KVUE in Austin is flipping its female evening anchors: 5 p.m. anchor Quita Culpepper adds the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows. Terri Gruca, current anchor of those 2 newscasts, will anchor at 5 p.m. only now, devoting the rest of her time to investigative reporting. The station is still -- almost a year later -- looking for a male co-anchor for evenings. http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/01/11/kvue-anchor-swap-terri-gruca-quita-culpepper-trading-spots/
  21. Losing viewers to the simulcast on WUPL wouldn't be that big of a deal. As long as 4:30 to 7 is a straight simulcast, they can ask Nielsen to combine the ratings for both stations into a single line and assign that line to the primary station (WWL). Stations in other markets have been doing that for years, including our local NBC/CW duopoly in the mornings.
  22. Has to be an edict from the network. Maybe it came up at affiliation renewal time? No way they'd willingly give up that cash cow of a newscast and send viewers in search of local news over to Fox 8, a station that's been gaining on them in most time slots.
  23. Quite the overreaction. Just a hunch, but I'm guessing they were looking for a reason to get rid of them. Money, ratings, or ...
  24. Classic Gannett/Tegna. They just spent all that money to move KING, KONG and NWCN to new headquarters. That would have been the ideal time to pull the plug. Instead, they spent lots of money to build a secondary studio, auxiliary control room and dedicated offices specifically for NWCN that will wind up having lasted less than a year. In addition to the money they've already spent, they're in a long-term lease and will be paying rent for that unnecessary space for years. Pure genius.
  25. Mad that she was overshadowed by Maria?
