  1. I watched it, and it definitely seemed like they were going for an Oprah-esque vibe, I even called it White-Oprah. They also got rid of the news ticker/crawl for that hour, so they're going full on talk show. Yet it's still advertised as an NBC News program (the on screen logo alternates between the MKT and NBC News logos). If they wanted to turn the 9am hour into a full talk show, why not just put it syndication?

I'll be recording every show onto DVD, just in case this becomes a notorious bomb, and NBC is forced to bring back Today's Take or give the 9am hour back to the local stations.

  2. Just streamed the debut of WVEC's Now at Eleven, and all I can say is, I'm impressed. Very informative, trying to attract today's generation while not trying to alienate the old-time viewers. I'm not sure it was live though. The camerawork seemed too fancy to be live. All in all, this should be how Tegna runs KXTV/WTSP and any other station they want Mr. Cheatwood to ruin.

Speaking of WTSP, I also streamed their 11pm news at the same time, and it looks like they've improved from their very rocky start. They're more focused on actual hard news and saving the fluff stories for the end. They've also done away with teasing the headline of next story before flash-cutting to the "10 Tampa Bay" logo and commercials, without any "we'll be right back" or "coming up next". That was annoying.

  3. I mean, it's not bad from a technical standpoint - the animations are okay, the shadowing is decent, and the "news source" photo wrapping around the 8 is actually pretty clever and well-executed. But from a raw design standpoint, it reminds me of my own work from years ago - and not in a good way.

    So...yeah, ouch for sure.

Well I thought it was pretty well done for such a small market.

Now here's WPTZ in 1997 with Signature:

  4. Nice! I'm glad Ry's collection wasn't damaged by Harvey.

By 1993, KBMT was using Spirit of Texas and the same graphics as WUAB:

The next year, they were using Palmer News Package and a copy of KIII's open from the same time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=4YaGHvLLepU;m=6;s=24

And here's a real oddity: KBMT using The One & Only, but with their previous classic logo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Zaqc7IG-Owo;m=15;s=30

  5. Alright, here's another question about the forced-at-gunpoint-to-runs. Do they even spread to newscasts on Sinclair-owned stations that are produced by another station? I ask this because during my Fox station's newscast (which is produced by the CBS station) there was the sponsor tag for BLWB during the commercials, but the actual segment wasn't in the newscast.

  6. Anyone know more about this 6:30 p.m. newscast from KPNX? The promo is vaguely KTVK-like in style.

From what I could find on Newspapers.com, "12 News Now" was very short lived, as by February of 93, Bill Cosby's You Bet Your Life was in it's place, and when that was cancelled, A Current Affair, the show which 12 News Now replaced, took it's time slot.

  7. You get fired.

You don't get to claim Contentious Objector status if that's what you mean.

Besides...just "WHO" is going to object at the station?

    Here's how it works...

The log in master control says "Chatting With Boris" runs at 7:47:30...that day.

But you run "Friskies Catfood" commercial at 7:47:30....an not Boris.

You note the "discrepancy" on the log. in the section marked "reason for discrepancy" you write down "refuse to run".

The next day you get summoned to the traffic office where they ask "why didn't you run Boris when the log said to do so???"

What are you gonna say to your boss???

"Uh- I didn't feel like it???" duh

There will be no "Kumbya" singing...not sit-in's...no signs made of cardboard...no chants.

Just a trip out the door with the HR lady and your box of personal crap from your locker...and your last pay check.

No little newsroom uprisings...if you don't like how the place is run...you can leave.

Alright, besides the obvious layoffs, would the station be fined money or get budget cuts? And what about on occasions when BLWB or BTH failed to air due to technical meltdowns?
