  1. Remember that WCBS 880 is no longer part of the same company as WCBS TV. CBS sold the radio division to Entercom about 2 years ago. Sharing on air personalities is not longer a given and would require contracts. Entercom is licensing the call letters and contracted with CBS News to provide news updates (with a name change to differentiate). It used to be that most TV and radio stations used one or two traffic suppliers like the former Shadow Traffic and then Total Traffic. The supplier used to provide the talent so there were backups. Clearly with CBS, that model has changed and its no longer a priority.
  2. Source? considering she has rarely been on air, not connected to the anchor team and the viewers this is surprising. If it was for Sat or Sunday that would make more sense. Either Raphael Miranda or Erica Grow should have been selected. I wouldn’t blame them if they bolt.
  3. It was two years ago already. That is why WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS say a radio.com station.
  4. In the past, WNBC has also used the CNBC studio in Englewood Cliffs when there were issues in midtown impacting 30 Rock. It was a weekend, so that was not an option. It may result in WNBC wishing to upgrade a backup studio at WNJU (which ironically are in the old CNBC/America's Talking/MSNBC studios in Fort Lee). Having that facility in NJ would give them an advantage over the other stations. In reality, all the networks/stations impacted will probably be reassessing their contingency plans going forward. Would CNBC have to keep an area on weekends active in case MSNBC or WNBC has to relocate? What would CBS and ABC do? And Fox has abandoned the Secaucus studio which is nt longer an option. I noticed that WCBS was using a studio with really bad acoustics. You could hear the anchor's sighs and it was echoing. All had lighting issues. However, in the end, they all got the news and information out.
  5. I agree. Right now schedules are a mix due to vacation time. Erica was on the 4, 5 and 6 tonight. (and probably the 11). I bet it will take a couple of months to sort out, and the new person that is rarely on camera gets the weekend morning spot (Maria something or other).
  6. In reality, NBC had no clue how to use Kerry Barrett. The breaking news desk thing didn't last very long and she ended up just being a substitute anchor across all newscasts. It was like she was the fifth wheel. I don't think this is unique to WNBC from when I lived in St. Louis and KSDK tried a similar thing. When there is. breaking news, and it requires a specialized "expert" it usually intelligence or security related and Jonathan Dienst is used. But it is topic specific. Otherwise regular anchors will break in. But that is not part of the regular scheduled broadcasts usually but has been on occasion. Adam Kuperstein did that Thursday with the LA earthquake from the newsroom, which is not a typical set they use these days.
  7. I think they say exclusively on cable as they also have been available on Comcast, Charter and RCN for many years. FiOS, DirecTV and Dish do not carry News12NJ.
  8. Altice has systems down the shore as well. Several years ago, Comcast made a deal with then Cablevision to carry News12NJ on their northern systems in Essex and Middlesex counties. In return, CN6 was available on Optimum until Comcast shuttered the channel. Charter (formerly TWC) systems in NJ also carry News12NJ. Altice also now carries Spectrum News NY1 (which is basically useless with its narrow focus on NYC).
  9. I would not read too much into it. Rafael is doing 4, 5, 6 and 11 while Dave and Janice are off on vacation. It will take some time to sort out, my bet is on Rafael getting it. He does have seniority.. I would look to the new meteorologist who has not been on the air much to take TINY Weekend duty.
  10. David was on in the afternoon.
  11. Reporters on the scene (1.5 blocks from 30 Rock) included Sarah Wallace, Jamie Roth, Ray Villeda. David Ushery and Jumy Olabanji anchored the coverage in addition to hosting the 4 pm broadcast.
  12. You are actually wrong on several counts. New Yorkers are very sensitive to "flying machines" hitting buildings today, but more importantly, the area is a no fly zone - both because of what happened 9/11 and its close proximity to trump's tower and home. The helicopters are usually restricted to the rivers and this one was to be headed south to it's home base in Linden NJ, not north.
  13. WABC also is broadcasting live, why not use their own sister station?????? Note the only NYC station that is not covering this live is WNYW FOX5. CBS2, NBC4, ABC7 and PIX11 are all live. I guess Fox values Dish Nation higher than breaking news.
  14. NBC has often gone outside to fill the anchor ranks on weekends, and I expect them to do it again, even if it is a promotion of an anchor from another NBC O&O. Although there are often wishes for local promotions, it has often been said that many are happy with their current situations rather than "moving up." Considering family and community obligations Jen Maxfield has, she may be just fine with her current situation as being a reporter and fill in anchor. Time will tell. It seems NBC is never quick to fill the weekend anchor positions.
  15. I read earlier that the 9 pm news on WLNY has rebranded using the CBSN New York name, effective Monday the 8th.
  16. The operation of Fox O&O's are not impacted by the Disney sale. They will continue to be controlled by "New Fox" and the Murdoch family. I'm sure it was a legacy Fox decision on when to change the websites, along with a long overdue Fox5 NY studio. All Fox decisions which Disney has no role in.
  17. Me bad. When I checked the Optimum guide yesterday I thought it said 5 am. Today it says 4:30 am. Still, News4NY is the only local news at 4 am.
  18. The bigger news is who is replacing her. Former NBC O&Os news director Vicki Burns. She was once the ND at NBC New York, later at KNBC. She had been consulting to Tribune. Seems like a serious hire to me and an intent of improving the product.
  19. Same with NY flagship WNYW. 5-10 am.
  20. Sorry, it reminds me of Tegna backgrounds like what was used at KSDK in the am. Just more yellow than KSDK's redish/orange. That station (and station group) is not in the same universe of quality as WNBC.
  21. The question is will this be the permanent background going forward (sorry, very Tegna like) or will they go back to the live shot but with the News 4 New York floating near the bottom? Live shots were used at 4. 5 and 6 tonight.
  22. Simpler to read. Especially when MSNBC ditched the ticker. Trump's preferred L3s would be ones with pictures probably.
  23. Anyone know if she is permanent or freelance. They also had another guy not seen before on over the weekend covering the storm that wasn't. His bio is the works for the network in DC. May have just been filling in as a reporter.
  24. Is she an addition or replacing someone. All four current weather anchors are still on the website. I'm assuming Janice is off this week.
  25. I believe these are attempts by NBC to broaden and reach younger viewers on whatever platforms are available.
