It would be Al rolling in his grave if KYW dumps Eyewitness News at least CBS let them keep the it and incorporated in to it. “CBS Eyewitness News Philadelphia” or at least have reporters announce it at the end of live shots. This is so sad and it’s an blasphemy station are dumping it. Especially legendary Fox stations FOX5 Atlanta or Fox 2 Detroit. Since it started at CBS. And perfected in ABC.
Wasn't KYW a NBC station back then? It was the old Group W stations that carried the Eyewitness News moniker. Once Westinghouse bought CBS, all their NBC stations switched affiliations.

Why did CBS owned WBFS & WSBK dropped MyNetworkTV?
Does MyNetwork provide any value to any station group outside of Fox Owned? It's pretty useless with repeats you can find elsewhere. Have to admit, I never watch Ch 9 WWOR here. No one I know does.

Personally there is a reason I didn’t subscribe to Discovery +. No interest on my part. If they turn HBOMax into a Service of cheap Discovery fare, they will lose subscribers including myself.

Interesting. I’m visiting RI. Neither the Nexstar station (CBS) nor the Sinclair station (NBC) are yet (as of 6:30 am). Standard Media’s ABC station is.

I actually don't see completely getting rid of the channel number being a good move. Several of the CBS O&Os are heritage stations from the start up of television, over 70 years old. Throughout the years, most people refer to them as Channel 2, Channel 4 etc. Considering local news skews older demographically, those are the folks that are used to watching Channel 2 most of their lives and will refer to it that way. If the heritage channel numbers weren't important, why did they all push for virtual channel numbers when they converted to digital TV? The non station branding is fine, NBC has done that for years, but they did not abandon channel numbers either.

Better than the studio they use for the daily news.
Really? This looks like a tiny virtual set up for now. I have no problem IMO with how 3K looks, however, at this point they will not be making changes (including the desk which is what most don't like) since they will be moving to half of 3B sometime next year. I suspect some of what WMAQ just did will filter into both the WNBC and Telemundo 47 sets that are relocating to 3B.

You can surely make the case it should have been on their main channel, it did air on News12+ on cable.
Did they ever? Not the channel I would go to to watch. It was on 2, 4, 5, 7 and 11. NFL pregames moved to 9 for Fox and 10/55 for CBS.

Reading the previous few posts there is a common theme. Despite its name, NewsNation is not a full fledged news network. It is part time to begin with, is inflexible with the 24 hour ever changing news cycle. It has many limitations on covering major stories and events. It seems more a read a wire service, splice in some video, make it about the personality service. For those of us of a certain age who remember the beginnings of CNN (and even the short lived Satellite News Channel from Group W) they may have been run on the cheap but committed full time to the news and had agreements in place all over the globe for breaking news. The UK and US are intertwined in their special relationship. Could NewsNation have had a deal in place with the folks who do ITC, Channel 4 or Channel 5 News (assuming BBC has deals in place and has coverage of BBC World on many cable lineups and Sky is owned by NBC Universal)? In some ways you can look at this as a test of NewsNation's ability to cover a major international story and they failed, miserably. The good news is very few people probably tuned in to watch Dan Abrams kvetch (His ratings are minuscule to begin with and the opening NFL game was on last night) and Cuomo and whoever else Nexstar decides to bring in won't increase viewership much. At the end of the day, NewsNation is not the go to channel for breaking news stories of any significance. I'm not sure it ever would be.

Although I'm sure there is heritage about that channel logo, it is way too busy IMO for today, and looks incompatible with the abc circle.

TV Newscheck is reporting the news on WGCL and WPCH will now be branded as Atlanta News First. WGCL calls will also change to WANF. Here is the NextTV version of the story, including what the local will look like. https://www.nexttv.com/news/wgcl-atlanta-changing-call-letters-to-wanf

I was flipping around news channels earlier and noticed Carolyn Manno reporting for CNN from the US Open. Does she work for both CNN and WNBC?

This worked so well last time. Worse, many 10 pm shows are top rated shows. Chicago Wednesdays and Law & Order Thursdays would become half days? Bad idea.

Who is she? Will she be on weekdays at 5 or weekends?

I thought it was going to be at 1 in all time zones. But I guess stations could air it at noon Eastern/11am Central if they wanted to.
DOOL airs at noon in several O&O markets. No word on what is going to happen.

In Philly that would be -
330am EARLY TODAY
4AM-7AM NBC10 NEWS
7AM TODAY
9AM THIRD HOUR
10AM HODA & JENNA
11AM NBC 10 NEWS - 1145AM PHILLY LIVE
12N NBC NEWS DAILY
That's 9 1/2 hours of news...maybe NBC needs to look into a cable news channel or streaming service instead... oh wait?!?!
Not to mention...
4PM NBC10 NEWS
5PM NBC 10 NEWS
6PM NBC 10 NEWS
630PM NBC NIGHTLY NEWS
7PM NBC10 NEWS
Exactly the same at WNBC/New York except New York Live is 11:30 to 12.
Question is for the NBC O&Os that currently broadcast DOOL at noon, will NBC News Daily be at noon, or would Access Daily switch to noon? If no switch will the new newscast be live everywhere? No promotions yet on NBC New York on what will happen.

Anyone else noticing sound issues with Yankees broadcasts? The commercials seem very loud compared to the play by play. Earlier in the season, it also seemed the first few words out of Michael Kay each inning were loud then at a normal volume. I'm noticing this whether using the app off of Optimum.tv or directly from Amazon using Apple TV. Is anyone else noticing this? I'm concerned that with Amazon getting more sports including TNF, these issues could become significant.
Never mind that YES's continued use of 720p does not make for a quality broadcast either.

If I was Nexstar, I would turn The CW into what MyNetworkTV is, a syndication service where most of their affiliates end up treating them like an Independent station. It could open up more newscasts and leftover programming on duopolies that can't air on the main channel. The CBS Owned CW stations with duopolies for example could air more news from its CBS Owned sister stations.
Might as well close it down. Does anyone even watch myNetwork?

They won't push NewsNation on the affiliates. Why? Because that's not the best use of NewsNation.
As I've said a few times on the Discord, the best use for NewsNation to Nexstar is to dump existing affiliations on their owned stations in favor of reformatting NewsNation programming to run OTA. With NBC and ABC moving entertainment programming to their streaming services, it's just a matter of time until companies like Nexstar question why they're paying Comcast, Paramount, and Disney big $$$ for basically a bunch of national news programming and a big nightly ad for Disney+/Peacock/Paramount+, when Nexstar already produces national news programming. "Ohhhhh! But..." you say. Tell me, would anyone actually notice if Nexstar replaced the latest flop that CBS has on in the morning with Mornings in America?
The CW fits into that plan by providing general entertainment on their duopoly stations, .2s, or by selling the affiliation off and collecting money from other stations in the market.
I also don't see them pushing it on their own stations with active newsrooms. Nexstar O&O, oops Mission's WPIX has several newscasts a day including at 6:30 pm and 10-11 pm.. NewsNation provides no value.

I was surprised NBC is moving Days to Peacock I didn't see that one coming.
Clearly the three Peacock specials were a test. I guess there were enough viewers to justify it.

The CW’s saving grace these past few years was their Netflix deals and global syndication
It seems that is not what Nexstar plans. I'm guessing he wants to use the off network shows on their own stations, limiting viewership and buzz. Good luck.
A few things mentioned in the investors conference are a bit concerning.
They mentioned the production agreement with Paramount Global and WBD is for a year, and after that will be considered.
They mentioned that they plan on moving away from mostly scripted programming. They seem to be following post divestiture Fox's approach with a few scripted shows and several cheap uninteresting unscripted game shows and more. I'm not sure that will bring more eyeballs to the CW. It may backfire. I know it's a turn off for myself and I watch several CW shows.
They also positioned the transition from WGN America to NewsNation as a success. Huh? It's not watched by many and I doubt Chris Cuomo is enough to change that (or any other rehab projects they decide to program). In five years, I can see Nexstar in a lot of hurt if none of this is as successful as Sook believes.

Back to a small studio for WNBC. What a shame.
-
Someone mentioned a couple of months ago in the WNBC thread that new studios for both stations would be built on the 2nd Floor at 30 Rock. Dividing 3B in half would probably result in two small studios. Currently 3C is listed at just over 4000 sq ft. 3K where News4NY broadcasts from is 2668 sq ft, so it would be smaller if that is the case. I would hope the days of a cramped studio for WNBC are long gone thinking back to 7K conference room disaster as well as when they were in 3C (1310 sq ft). I still miss the days of 6A. Lots of room, multiple sets.... But until they make some announcements, who knows.

And...(LeBron timeout pain GIF)...MSNBC. You already have a news channel. You're basically telling Chris Jansing you don't care about her 1 p.m. show. ABC at least gave plenty of notice All My Children was ending and had the 'we don't have a news channel' excuse to cover the move.
Or for those of us that have DOOL at noon like in NYC, it sends a message to Andrea Mitchell.

I guess this might bump NewsNation's average viewership from 50K to maybe 60K?
Is Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer far behind in joining NewsNation too?
NewsNation should give ParamountGlobal and WBD pause in selling the WB to Nexstar.
