The "CT40" special celebrating Clarice Tinsley's 40th anniversary with KDFW has been posted online.

Any possible asset sales, or will Nexstar keep most of Tribune? https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/02/nexstar-said-to-reach-deal-to-buy-tribune-media-for-4point1-billion.html

Congrats, Clarice! I met her years ago while working for a bookstore, she ended up doing several children's storytimes there, as well as a charity gift-wrapping appearance one night. But that's just a drop in the bucket to the countless appearances, speaking engagements, and charitable work she has done in north TX over the years. Hard to believe it's been 40 years. The only on-camera talent with more tenure in DFW are the late/great Harold Taft (41 years), David Finfrock (still on-air, and has surpassed Harold's length of tenure), and Bobbie Wygant (*still* doing work for KXAS, ever since the station's beginning as WBAP).

Now that the redo-refresh is on and live, are there any plans at all for tweaking/adding sections? -
The front of the building (Griffin St. side) would have more room for bollards, but the Patterson and San Jacinto sides are pretty much flush with the street. One thing they could do along Patterson (the side where the pickup smashed the windows) is rebuild similar to the way the San Jacinto side is with a solid wall, but have windows just along the upper part of the wall so light could still get in. BTW, the parking lot across Patterson is a public lot (but historically related--it was the last location for the former Dallas Times Herald (KDFW's originally co-owned newspaper) before it gave up in 1991); all of KDFW & KDFI employees and company vehicles park within the east side of the building.

Nothing new about the man who made a mess of KDFW's downtown Dallas building several weeks ago, but a quick pass by the building in recent days shows plywood on the windows, but no work beyond that. No new facade/siding, no bollards.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
east-tx-tv replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
It's bad enough when stations like KYTX blow out anyone locally-known to the viewers and replace them with no-names/talking-heads (which already does them no favors in the ratings game compared to longtime top-banana KLTV), but then let's add something like mum craftiness and chili ingredient debates, oh and an almost-laughable seat-of-the-pants high school football wrap-up show on Friday nights... IMO, Tegna hasn't exactly *added* value to their investment. And as for WFAA (another IMO), if Mike Shapiro (longtime past VP/GM) or Marty Haag (longtime past ND) could see what's up on Young Street now, they'd be spinning in their graves.- 3685 replies

I haven't thought about him since he did weather (IIRR, the midday news, mostly) on WFAA. A bit obnoxious in north TX, but was probably just a warm-up. I'd forgotten the Charlotte mess was him, now frosting on the cake in San Diego? How on earth was he in a relationship, with all that spazzy-wackyness? I wonder if he can bounce back from this, or even get a used-car-sales job.

They're doing an anniversary special sometime in the next week or so, I forgot the date, at 5pm. Strange, how they only have 30 minutes to spare after 70 years, but 2 hours were spent for their 50th.

Last night was Kevin John's last night as sports anchor at KYTX. They said on their Under the Lights (high school football) show that he's on to work in Sacramento, but didn't mention which station. According to his bio, which is still up on KYTX's site, for now (https://www.cbs19.tv/article/about-us/team-bios/kevin-john/501-319117827), he is from northern CA and is getting his master's from University of San Francisco. So it looks like a homecoming of sorts for Kevin. Good luck to him.

"HTownRush"?? Not sure what to think of that one.

A happy 69th anniversary to WFAA....

Strangely, no word yet on KDFW's website, but KXAS and KTVT have reports on their sites: https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Man-Who-Drove-Truck-Into-Dallas-TV-Station-Released-From-Jail-493389641.html https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2018/09/14/man-driving-truck-dallas-tv-station-jail/

The man who took a pickup to KDFW's studio-office building in Dallas recently has been let go. Authorities can't hold him if no charges are ever filed. With all the mess he made and dust-up he caused, no one has any objection--KDFW, WFAA, no one. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2018/09/15/man-suspected-intentionally-crashing-fox-4-building-jail

Meanwhile, down the dial..... 58 years ago today, Dallas' PBS station, KERA, signed on. It wasn't until 1974 that they would be able to broadcast in color. But a first came along the following year, as KERA was the first US station to air an episode of the Brit-com Monty Python's Flying Circus. All the members of MP made an appearance during a 1975 pledge drive. KERA has been airing Brit-coms and dramas ever since.

So strange how they and the Dallas Morning News treat him. It's almost as if the DMN thought he'd just dry up and blow away when they showed him the door years ago. The other DFW stations don't seem to mind Uncle Barky that much. And stupid, since he can get the information elsewhere that they think they are blocking from him. It reminds me of hearing how Tracy Rowlett was excluded from the framed pictures of past/present on-air talent in the lobby of WFAA. Very parched-earth, very very sour grapes.

So weird that in all of their 14 years, they've never had midday news on KYTX. They've dubbed it The Noon Show.

(cross-post from Out & About...) Latest local ratings report after WFAA's first GMA Day airing, and midday news move to 11am: http://www.unclebarky.com/dfw_files/f2b5f10d183240fce6f2b0bcb2e69c52-4270.html WFAA's GMA Day airing was 3rd in its slot, while their midday news at 11am was 4th in that slot.

Noon news; TMZ (KDFW) 3. GMA Day (WFAA) 4. Days of Our Lives (KXAS) The WFAA midday news at 11 was fourth, but the other 3 in the top 3 weren't listed, but were likely a mix of KXAS' midday news, KTVT's midday news and first 1/2 of Y&R, and Wendy in her relocated timeslot on KDFW.

Poor Jenny Anchondo wasn't at KDAF very long after bailing from KDFW, wonder what she'll do now. Meanwhile, >yay!< the unwatchable newscasts have finally been put out of their misery. It would be nice if this actually led to a return to a set of traditional newsgathering and presentation, but I guess I won't be holding any breath over it.
