1. Semi-related, but Digital First Media (formerly MediaNews Group) has made a hostile takeover bid for the "new" Gannett (owner of USA TODAY and local newspapers).

Could this mean that TEGNA changes its name back to Gannett?

I'd love to see the Deathstar make a comeback, too. That's something Gannett took away nearly 8 years ago.

  2. I like how a lot of people on here think this rebrand was a knee-jerk reaction that they just decided to do one afternoon.

Believe me, they focus grouped this stuff, and did their research, and it took months to settle on this brand and logo combo. YOU may not like it, but apparently the research and focus groups did.

...unlike WFXT which has a really bad logo, but did not listen to focus groups or do research for it (this was before the Boston 25 News rebranding, which was based on a survey).

  3. Also I partially underlined the previous post by accident. I tried fixing it, but it went horribly wrong as a result of another mistake, so I left it as is. While typing, I was trying to cover the LG logo on my phone with my hand (made very small so I don't pay attention to it), causing those mistakes.

  4. Eat, are you trying to get on “Next with Kyle Clark?”

Or are you trying to get on Peep and the Big Wide World because the phrase "peeping tom" made me think of it? Yes, that's a real show, look it up. One of the characters there is called Tom.

You might also want to look up what always comes on after that show. It's called Pocoyo.

  5. WJXX opens from the day they were bought by Gannett in 2000, and started simulcasting WTLV. Kind of cheap-looking.

I can see pixelation in the opens and a legal ID mentioning WTLV instead of WJXX, probably because it was meant to be very temporary. I also saw an Allbritton-era WJXX ID at the beginning of the video.

    Speaking of Gannett:

Have you knew before that the 1990s version of the Deathstar was used on WKYC, KVUE (owned by Belo from 1999-2013), WTLV, and WMAZ?

I still can't find a video of KXTV's Deathstar or KPNX's use of the 2000s version of the Deathstar ID (also used on KUSA and WUSA).

  6. Here is a horrible news open from RTE in Ireland from 2003-2007 with all those letters and numbers. You should be glad we here in the USA don't have an open like that and to me it seems more futuristic than Gannett's 2008 broken fax machine:

In case you want to see this atrocious and extremely uninspired news open, go to 0:32.

What does something like T9B868D5 7BR69T8RD5EVCG8B7R9877-BR69B6BR6 even mean to viewers?!

  7. An animated Paul Bunyan has taken his axe to WLBZ2 and rechristened the station as NEWS CENTER Maine - but the old WLBZ2 logo still appears on the station bug and promos.

In another ident, a lighthouse shows the old logo pointing left and the new one pointing right - with the new one eventually taking over the frame

That lighthouse reminds me a little of the current Scripps ID. Interesting for both of them.

  8. I feel like Tegna has made a business decision to forgo high ratings and instead run #2 stations at a bottom-dollar pricepoint, keeping the margins healthy. It's sad.

Or lower. For example, WXIA 11Alive going from 2nd place to 11Dead last, and KPNX going from the market leader to 3rd place (or lower). What stations are immune to Tegnaitis? Maybe KUSA, KVUE, and/or WCNC?

I hate to say bad things about Gannettegna, but a once-great company is now a shadow of what it used to be, like Sears and Kmart. The Deathstar can cause death to ratings (pun intended).

  9. Who wants to sign off on this letter?

    Dear TEGNA;

Your purchase of KFMB is a win for you, because the station ratings are tops in the market. I'm sure you've seen their revenue projections, budgets, and more. Yes, your company changing the business model and doing new things that are consider ["innovative"] However, one would like to question some of the changes you've made with Belo Stations when you purchase them several years ago.

Please, listen because these are just some coaching points. STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS. You've gotten many gems tv stations and you have turn them into BIRD DEW meaning SHIT! Let take a look at KXTV, WWL, KENS, KING, KHOU and including your own stations that were apart of the Gannett umbrella WXIA, KSDK, WTSP, WUSA, KVUE. Please, don't let your consultants gut KFMB like you've done other stations.

Please, once again STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS AND DON'T FUCK UP KFMB! We know your track record, and it not pretty. Here hoping you don't cut Barbara Lee Edwards' salary, because we know it always awesome sauce when you can make millions and the talent has to take a cut and etc. Again, DON'T FUCK UP THIS ONE, the reason why? Well let take a look at WWL 4 in New Orleans. Let see if they will be #1 in time slots in February.

    Sincerely,

    Those that give a damn-

KXTV is a legacy Gannettegna station. Gannettegna owned them since 1999. KVUE was owned by Gannettegna from 1986-1999 and again since 2013 (due to Gannett's purchase of Belo).

I hate to say bad things about TEGNA, but look at all the stations TEGNAitis has struck. Gannett gave WXIA, KPNX, WTSP, KXTV, and KSDK life. Then they became TEGNA, who basically took it away. TEGNAitis also struck ex-Belo stations such as WFAA and WWL. On the bright side, ex-Belo stations WFAA and KVUE made ratings gains for last month's sweeps.

    KXTV wasn't owned by Belo.

KXTV was owned by Belo until 1999. In 1999, Belo traded KXTV to Gannett and got KVUE in return.

  10. Looks like the former WV Media Holding stations have went to back to call letter websites. When Nexstar took over those stations under brokerage agreement websites changed to example: tristateupdate.com for WOWK. Now it's back to wowktv.com same goes for WTRF, WVNS and WBOY. Could this be a sign of change?

Hearst has done the same thing. Your turn, Graham and Scripps' ex-MGH stations.

  11. It looks like Newsy is finally on cable. As I mentioned in the chatboxes, it showed up on Cox Gainesville on Channel 276.

It's the same channel seen online and on Cincinnati Bell. It's displayed as Newsy___SD, even though its shown in Widescreen.

I feel like I just got Headline News all over again!

Newsy is owned by Scripps. Comcast also now carries Newsy.

FUN FACT: Scripps used to own cable systems until Comcast bought them out in 1995.

  12. Sorry to bump this thread, but a change at KLFY in Lafayette, LA. After almost four decades, their "hurricane"-style logo is history. Their new logo debuted this morning....

KLFY also debuted new graphics, anchor IDs, and a new theme as well. I believe the new theme is a Stephen Arnold composed piece (as Nexstar likes to use Stephen Arnold music for their stations).

I'm also guessing that despite the new graphics, theme, and formatting as per Nexstar's style, the news on KLFY will still be done in the manner that viewers are accustomed to....

Here is a cleaner image of the logo.....

    Very scary, I know......

KLFY has been Nexstar-ized. Do they have a Nexstar URL?
