  1. I have confirmed that TEGNA will be rolling out a new graphics package for all of its stations in the near future. They are done and ready to go. It will happen soon. I haven’t seen what it looks like yet but have confirmed with sources in the know that this is happening. If anyone else has more info please share.
  2. Lemme guess the tea… every single Scripps station communicated how crappy the new music was and told corporate they needed a more urgent cut. The “Florida 24” theme is a way of corporate caving and giving them what they want while being able to say “we didn’t screw up… this is a totally new theme that we only ever intended for Florida24 to use… but if it turns out our other stations want to use it, so be it.”
  3. They did the same for WATN too though
  4. Cc: @Weeters
  5. Whoa… did not see this coming… KOAA cuts Elizabeth Watts in favor of KKTV’s former anchor Dianne Derby. Derby left KKTV suddenly last year when her co-anchor Don Ward died unexpectedly. Then she pursued “other opportunities”
  6. Meta question… the banner at the top of this thread has said it’s about to become “coming and goings” for like two years now. Is that ever going to happen?
  7. Agree. This set is way too busy and over the top. But I guess ABC likes that because that’s what they’re all about. They overhype everything. Everything is “breaking.” They never speak in past tense. And they only know how to describe things in hyperbole. So I guess it makes sense they’d build a set and chose a color to commit visual assault on the viewers, in addition to verbal/editorial assault. The new TV3 plays into this as well.
  8. Major shakeup in Colorado Springs on the heels of a station tragedy... KKTV main anchor Dianne Derby has resigned from the station today, less than two months after her longtime co-Anchor, Don Ward, unexpectedly passed away. The two were very close, and she took a leave of absence most of last month. Just yesterday, the station announced morning anchor Adam Atchison would be promoted to Ward’s old position. Now, they have another main anchor spot to fill with Derby’s departure. https://gazette.com/arts-entertainment/dianne-derby-leaves-kktv/article_41a83488-193f-11eb-ae50-5be21cd621bc.html
  9. This all just makes me so infuriated. I hate my industry so much sometimes.
  10. I like that Scripps is bringing more news options to markets at a time when most other companies are reducing the news options in markets. Whether or not a market can “support” this many news options, it can never hurt to give people as many options as possible. The alternative (see Anchorage and St. Joseph) is never the answer.
  11. I would just like to say that KYUR/KTBY barely qualifies as a legitimate news station. and FTV reported the anchor told the Mayor she was gonna win an Emmy. Not a chance in the world. I’ve watched those newscasts. They’re BAD.
  12. Hearing from friends at non-affiliated Nexstar stations (particularly WDVM) as well as some at Nexstar fox stations that the whole “no more CNN video” thing is an absolute shit show, as one could expect. They are literally having to take full screen video from tweets from reporters in other cities in some cases, since they have no VO for national stories.
  13. According to the banner at the top of their website, KOAA will be launching a 4 p.m. newscast next Monday, September 14th. Can’t tell who will be anchoring from the promos I’ve seen, unless they’re just keeping the same evening anchor team.
  14. No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
  15. I know this is all happening g suddenly, but my goodness that logo needs to change, and it needs to change fast.
  16. This is just terrible news. KTVA is one of the most solid news operations out there and I really feel bad for their people. Their product is so far ahead of what is expected of a market that size. And their brand is respected and well renowned. I’m a little confused as to everything right now... these are my questions. 1. Does Gray have control of KTVA’s news department as of now? Or is it still GCI? 2. Is it still business as usual for the KTVA news department right now? Will they still be on at all their regular times? 3. Why so sudden? 4. Are KTVA’s newscasts going to air on the new CBS 5 now instead? 5. Is there more to come? Are we still waiting for some dominos to fall?
  17. I’ll take it over their current design!
  18. KOMU is the J-school’s biggest attraction. And the J-school is pretty Much Mizzou’s biggest attraction. Plus they have plans to build KOMU a new state of the art building. Not a chance they’ll ever sell it unless the FCC forces them. https://abc17news.com/news/2017/11/10/mu-reveals-top-priority-projects-in-five-year-capital-plan-hopes-to-build-new-journalism-building/ I found this tidbit interesting... “the facility would bring together MU’s media brands, including KOMU, KBIA, Missourian and Vox, in order to create a multi-platform environment.“ Would this be the only case of a network affiliate, NPR affiliate, local newspaper and local magazine all sharing a newsroom?
  19. Ed Bark is retiring from DFW TV coverage. Now who will we get our ratings breakdowns from?
  20. Believe me C Clairty is just the icing on the cake. My problems with Tegna run much deeper than music—that I can assure you. As a fellow 20-something guy, I concur. (I think I’ve made that evident by now). Tegna is the “hello fellow kids” of ownership groups. Depending on who you ask I could fall under Generation Y or Z (born right on the cusp). The problem is I don’t know anyone else my age (who is not also in the business) that actually watches tv news with any regularity. That’s a departure from previous generations when they were the same age. And believe me, I slowly made the switch away from WFAA as Tegnitis set in. This was before C Clarity. The transition from Buttoned-up Belo to Tricked-up Tegna is rather jarring.
  21. Not to mention, Hearst has been using Strive since 2013 and it hasn’t aged a bit. Hard to find a music package in circulation that long that still sounds just as cutting-edge as the day it started.
  22. Just because TV isn’t the main focus doesn’t mean you can’t still put a quality product on air. See Hearst, Griffin, Hubbard, Graham etc. To use the online shopping analogy, Target still makes their brick and mortar stores nice and clean even though more people are shopping online. They even incorporate some online elements like online grocery pickup. But they don’t change the way their stores feel. You’ll still get the same shopping experience inside you always have. That option is still available. When the day comes that no one wants to shop in stores anymore... great, take the stores away. But there’s no need to lessen the experience while they still exist. It is possible to make both your web content AND TV content have quality while acknowledging one is on its way out. Also, I would say major industries like Coca-Cola have a reason to appeal to the young crowd because they want to hook people while they’re young and make them customers for life. But since we know young people aren’t watching TV, there’s no point to appeal to them on TV when they’re never going to be your audience in the first place. Putting TV news marketing and Soda marketing in the same category is an apples and oranges scenario. You’re talking about two totally different customer bases. However, your online product should definitely appeal to them, because you do want to hook them there. We know young people prefer to get their news from the internet.
  23. I’ll remind you I was born in the roarin’ 90’s and can tell you tegna’s approach is stupid and condescending to people my age because it’s transparent that they are trying too hard to appeal to us, rather than just do good work. news flash: most people in my generation don’t watch the news on TV. So stop trying to appeal to them. Appeal to the people you know will watch. Just a suggestion. By the way... to me, TV news peaked in about 2011 or so.
  24. Do not hold out hope for Move Closer To Your World sticking around. Tegna (then Gannet) shattered my dreams when it ripped the Spirit Of Texas out from under WFAA for no good reason at all. This company’s main goal in life is to take away anything that made a station unique, watchable and likable and replace it with cheaply designed, grossly underpaid, non-focus grouped cow manure. Thus, they will take great pleasure in sending MCTYW down the Lougee Loo and replacing it with their new age scat-snap-and-clap-fest as the viewers of NE PA light their torches and call for some heads—that I can assure you. They will spit in the faces of their valued viewers and laugh as they smash WNEP under their boots. As an aside, can someone please bring back Belo? I will buy you lunch! (For context: I’m not some old fart reminiscing about the good old days. I’m in my early-mid twenties, you know, the demographic Tegna is trying to reach with their crap. Just sayin’.) Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
