Note that I said “direction”.. 2012 is when the current Scripps graphics were introduced and this paper flat look wasn’t even in then anyways... but it’s way in now...

This look is neither paper, nor flat, to this reporter’s eyes.

Here’s WXYZ’s new 11pm teaser graphics... the cities scroll at the bottom. There’s a cityscape “next on 7 action news at 11” graphic that comes before this, I’ll try to grab a shot of it. Maybe this is the direction Scripps will go later this year?

2011 called. It wants its graphics back. No way this is going to be the ‘new’ package.

Folks, I have a announcement to tell you folks what watch WFAA (8) Weather. Meteorologist Colleen Coyle is leaving the station after nine years.

Always liked Colleen. WFAA just lost another of their few remaining good ones. She probably saw the way things were headed and jumped ship.

We're getting the impression any graphics and music changes are not on the horizon for 2018.

I’ll bet you $1,000,000,000,000,000 Scripps graphics and music remain unchanged throughout 2018. You on?

Why not?  She is very entertaining, young, and relatable to most Millenials in the market.

As a millennial in the market, I don’t find her, or any of the selfie stars Tegna is running through there, relatable. I prefer news to be about the story, not about the person telling it.

I have no problem with WFAA.

I guarantee you if you watch their morning show you'll enjoy Demetria Obilor's work.......

    I do. And i don't.

It's amazing to think that the Univ. of Missouri owns both an NBC/CW and an NPR station. It's so HIGHLY unusual. But so is the Univ. of Alabama which has a This TV and an NPR station.

They were just at the right place at the right time. In the early 50s the market need its own tv stations and the University was the only one who stepped up to do it. Certainly paid off for them in the long run.

I can’t imagine today any of the big 4 allowing one of their affiliates to be mostly run by students, in any market for that matter.

On second thought though... student reporters=free labor. So maybe that will be Nexstar or Tegna’s next move.

  8. Looks like the University of Missouri wants to build a new building for NBC affiliate KOMU. The catch is that the building will also house the local newspaper, the NPR station and other outlets the university owns as well. The journalism school just posted a rendering of the building on its social media accounts. Here’s an older article I found about the plans (you’ll have to scroll down to find the stuff I’m referencing): https://www.abc17news.com/news/mu-reveals-top-priority-projects-in-five-year-capital-plan-hopes-to-build-new-journalism-building/654490385

In this case, I was told they made up an internal document outlining the kind of stuff they were looking for, with a couple of examples (surprise, it was all the flat, Tegna-style graphics packages in the industry right now.) That goes out to companies that respond with some proposals. They then pick whatever proposal works best.

That's how we end up with all those set design proposals people like to come on here with and post about, saying how they found what's totally going to be WXXX's next set, posted three years ago on some random guy's website.

I have a feeling the FCC would have some problems with the content WXXX would no doubt be putting out
