I can't really imagine much else. They'll just put their programming and try to make it an international news hub. They'll also add a few randoms subchannels in the mix to reel some people in...and that's about it

It is a bit minimalist which I like but the animations and the stats popping out of the side are unnecessary

That is what the YouTuber did. Used the ol Turner-style stretch-o-vision and upscaled the feed to 720p...

WKBW also used these graphics and the then CBS affiliate KFSN used it too. 

Here we have a WBZ 11 PM News intro on Boxing Day 1986 (jump to 33:40)

WDTN had an interesting open back in 75. Looks like they went the Action News route without the theme

KXLY couldn't have made this any more blatant if they try
