The CW essentially functions as a hybrid linear network/AVOD service. Putting a paywall on their content would be a mistake.

Yep. But with #NexstarLogic, you don't know what we'll get. I'm sure they'll be a lot of pissed off female cordcutters if they put a paywall on that site.

  2. Well...why not. Might as well move one of your 100 cable networks to OTA. I wonder if the gameplan is to set up an ATSC 3.0 subscription which will give you MSNBC, CNBC, USA and Syfy 🤔

    New M&A.

Tegna is acquiring Yorktown, VA LP station WYSJ-CD from Jacobs Broadcasting System for $1.15M.

But buried in the transaction discription (p.2 on PDF) was that WVEC is planning to file a petition to move from VHF 11 to UHF 35.

Looks like we got a ATSC 3.0 repeater for WVEC with that purchase and WVEC itself will move to a more powerful signal

West Palm Beach is getting ATSC 3.0 on March 8th. Don't really have that much info apart from the host being WWHB Azteca 48 which is kind of surprising for me.

WWHB Azteca 48 already has a translator on WTVX 34.2

Finally. Maybe, it'll be worth it to get a ATSC 3.0 tuner if one of those signals can reach Miami (WWHB won't but maybe some other station) instead of settling for one channel 🤔

Bloomberg is now reporting that Standard/Apollo are nearly a deal to buy Tegna for $24-a-share

What's interesting is that what's included is that the shares will increase if the regulatory approval takes a long (and I mean a long) time to approve (which is a possibility).

A deal could be announced as soon as later this morning.

WHOA. Didn't see Standard in the mix. Looks like Kim always get his man (or company). It's gonna be interesting to see how two hedge funds run these stations...

New M&A. Gray is getting another LP.

They're getting KTEV-LD in Texarkana, AR from Buna Group, Inc. for $25K.

And I look at the contour and see how small it is. It doesn't even serve all of the city of Texarkana. Like central part of the city and areas north of it. Should they get the greenlight, I wouldn't be surprised if Gray replaces the antenna and have it at a greater reach in that vicinity.

Looks like that's gonna be a KSLA repeater.

    What about WPCH?

Sad to say that the station evolved from the groundbreaking WTBS into a local independent station running syndication repeats (mostly at Meredith's behest when they acquired the station from WarnerMedia).

While it would nice to use that station as a launching pad for a new-generation SuperStation, it may serve the area better as a full-powered Telemundo station and use the acquired low-power station for their experimentation and content origination (to be expanded in the digital realm).

Plus, with their efforts in Cleveland, they can be replicated (and even refined) in Atlanta.

Unfortunately, without any sports (or significant investment into programming in general), those days are long gone...

I mean, Sam is the former Chief Met for the top-rated station in the country and he's working early AM. I'd be thankful for him if I were ABC. Who get's someone of this caliber to do mornings? Hell, who get's someone of Lee Goldberg's and Sam Champion's caliber on the same airwaves. Nuts.

They had the Big Three one time either. Evans, Champion and Goldberg all in one station 🤯💘
