KXLY in Spokane used Bill Ratner for their voiceover for the better half of the last 20 years, until he was replaced by Brian Lee. Morgan Murphy probably provided Gordon's services to KVEW because it was cheaper to go with him than Ratner. Ratner has done v/os for a lot of major-market stations, like KCRA and KMGH.

I'll have to find that Action News open and re-post it soon. The opening was terrible.

KNDO's late '90s open was also bad. The music and voiceover recordings were awful...like it came from a cassette tape or cart used ten times before...muffled and the audio was even unstable. And this wasn't a VCR problem. It happened nightly at 'News 23 NBC'.

I think I found the second one

This must have been in October or November 1994. I posted the first 8:00 of the 9/17/94 evening news that still used the Fox era opening, bad fit for an NBC but definitely targeting the younger crowd (i.e. Fox local newscasts). Lot of reality-show and MTV-type camera work too in the reports.

But if you want a really bad news opening...I wish I had it on video.

DAVID LEE voiced the KAPP/KVEW news open a few years back. Yes, that David Lee. The rock station announcer and Westwood One Sports imaging guy. Either it was David or a knockoff of David that sounded just like him.

And the open graphics looked like crap too.

This would have been around 2016.

Also, don't even get me started on KIMA and KEPR's first graphics package + open(s) when they went to Action News in 2007. Terrible. Terrrrrrrrrible.

    I found the first one

    So follow up.

    WTTW has withdrawn the application.

It stated on the notice that "The applicant needs to withdraw the application and revisit its business plans."

    Whatever that means.......

    __________

    Small M&A.

Weigel is getting two more permits from HC2 for $50K.

    • W34ER-D Clarksdale, MS
    • KEOF-LD Fort Dodge, IA

Probably thought it was a good idea to keep an extra channel for ratings or we got some dysfunction at the junction in WTTW? 🤣😂

    ------

That LD will be in good use in Clarksdale since MeTV does not any presence there but the other LD is an odd buy as KCCI already shows MeTV. Maybe a plan to put MeTV Plus on its own?

And just like that ...April Moss has been scrubbed from the CBSDetroit.com website

She was begging to be fired so they did her a favor 🤣😂

Why are you taking the cameraman's side and calling her pathetic? He claims the allegations to be false, but as the article suggests, it wasn't just Narmeen reporting his inappropriate behavior, it was multiple staffers.

I'm not taking anyone's side. Sorry if it seems that way

Scripps is launching a statewide news network using the resources of all of its Florida stations......including WSFL. In fact, Nicole Wolfe is leading the effort.

So, how does WSFL have a news director if they aren't originating their own news? And what reporters from WSFL will actually contribute?

Not too sure why they haven't made a subchannel for this or put this on Pluto. Not too sure what they gain by parking it on the station's website

    This is interesting here.

Remember back in 2017 when former Chicago PBS outlet WYCC sold its spectrum in the auction, and ended up channel-sharing with WTTW after the latter bought the former's spectrum-less assets?

Now the parent of WTTW wants to dissolve the channel sharing arrangement & relinquish the license of WYCC so that WTTW can use its full 6mhz channel capacity.

I have a feeling this is nothing more than a cost-cutting move. Why pay license fees for two commonly-owned, separately-licensed stations that's shared on the same spectrum?

I guess. All WYCC has is FNX. They can easily just shift that over to WTTW

Might be a glitch in preparing to possibly launch new graphics, but WFIE has had this extra time/temp on the lower right corner of the screen at the start of their 10:00 news tonight. Disappeared after the first break when the Gray weather ticker appeared.

It's hilarious how so many Georgians use Charlotte as their news career launchpad move to Atlanta but wind up right back in Charlotte in the end...

    Literrally the Thanos meme 😂🤣

I know everyone knows Viacom is prime prey material, but this merger here you're stating could happen would be a mess.

And I can't see the DOJ or the FCC giving it a thumbs up...
