  1. I have another one for you, do you know who did the WTOV9 news graphics and opens around the same time? These graphics were kept even after they switched the news theme to "This is Your News" (another Frank Gari composition) and lasted until 2000 when Cox Enterprises bought the station (along with WJAC-TV Johnstown, PA) and switched to the WPXI Novocom graphics and theme (615 Music's "Total Coverage").

  2. Do you know which agency did the 1997 WCAU NBC10 news graphics & opens?, these graphics debuted in Fall 1997 after they dropped 615 Music's "Impact" (which they used since the affiliation switch to NBC in September 1995) and introduced a new theme ("NBC10 News Theme" by Eve Songs).

  3. Actually Cinetel Studios did the news graphics for WPTV (an NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach) at the time (late 1990s), although it was included in a reel for Quantel HAL in 1997 (Though I'm not sure who did the WBIR-TV graphics and opens at the same point).

I wonder if Cinetel also did the look of other Scripps-Howard Broadcasting stations? (although WXYZ used Novocom and Giant Octopus for their news opens as mentioned earlier)

In a rare case we do know this. This was an EGAD project! The music — which has somehow never gotten to the NMSA — was done by Kurt Bestor and Sam Cardon (Pinnacle Music), two veterans of Non-Stop; they also wrote the KSL 1998 package.

Thank you!, now I wonder which stations the Dallas-based Electronic Graphics and Design (EGAD) did graphics for at the time (1998) besides WVIT and WVTM? I've tried the Internet Archive Wayback Machine but it doesn't get me any results.

As I know most of the motion graphics agencies that did news graphics for stations (as well as station graphics) such as Novocom (WXYZ (before they hired Giant Octopus), WTVJ, WESH, KFMB, WRC, WPXI, WEWS, etc...), Giant Octopus (WLBT, WCNC, WBBH, WBNS, KPRC, WFLA, WWMT (?)), TVbD (WHAS, KRON, BayTV, KARE, WIVT (and the Ackerley stations WIXT, WUTR), WSBT, WTHR, KUSA, KSNW, KTUL, WBAY, WHP, WXIX, KPTM, CFMT, KSAT, ONN, WMAR, WSAZ etc..), Art Effects LLC (WSB, WAGA) and Quantel Hal (WPTV, WBIR etc...).

To add to that Giant Octopus also did news graphics for WFTS ABC28 judging by their client list here: http://web.archive.org/web/19980623201803/http://www.giantoctopus.com/clntlst.html

Dan was thoughtful enough to post some cuts of his KOMO work in high fidelity on his site - both the funky mid 80s theme and the orchestral theme from 1987

Also a bunch of KING work here

That's the same link I've posted on the earlier comment (sans KOMO-TV)

  7. Do you have any idea which motion graphics design agency did the KING-TV news intro & graphics during that time? (late 90s)

I assume these graphics were used from mid 1994 until late 1998 when KING-TV got new graphics and an updated theme (the "K5" logo was italicized in time for KING-TV's 50th Anniversary (where they briefly brought back "King Mike" (originally a creation of Walt Disney))).

Another to add... LoConte Goldman. Work includes the original Hearst package in 1995 and WTKR's 1994 "TV-3 News" look.

The LoConte Goldman Design also did the 1997 rebrand/graphics package for KTLA5 in collaboration with the then newly-found Linda Kane Design (LKD), she brought in the Boston-based design firm for the news opens and bumps whiles Linda did the design and production of other components. The 1997 KTLA5 Redesign (when they started branding themselves as "L.A.'s WB") garnered them 7 BDA Awards including 3 Silver Awards and one of which for the Total Package Design.

TVBD - Tv By Design did the motion graphics for WXIA at that time to my knowledge.

Gannett Production Services did the graphics for WXIA, WTLV, WGRZ, WKYC, WMAZ, WUSA, KUSA (Dateline Colorado) and other selected Gannett O&Os (meaning The Gannett Company had its own in-house agency in the late 90s). jcbD actually did the mid-90s graphics for WXIA and also did graphics for KOAT, KGW, KCCI, WDSU, KTVB, WYFF, WSAV, WTMJ, cable-only Bay News 9, CNN Headline News and several others..

I'm not sure motion graphics design agency did the WXIA news graphics in the late 90s? (pre-1999), the graphics were also being used for sister station WTLV Jacksonville (before they went under the "First Coast News" banner in 2000) as it was also owned by Gannett, since I couldn't point it out.

  11. I'm looking to acquire/find some IDs from BTQ7 Brisbane, since virtually few stuff can be found (and most Youtube users are afraid of posting such material due to fears of copyright) here are the list of IDs I'm trying to find (I'm leaving "Summer Fever" out since a handful of those can be found on YouTube). I bet that BTQ-7 might have it in their archives.

    • "Seven Fever" (1979), which was used to commemorate 20 Years of BTQ-7.
    • "Seven, You're Still Looking Hot!" (1980), only one ID featuring Boris the Black Knight from Wombat is current available at this moment.
    • "Seven National News" opens and bumpers (1979-1987), that theme was also originally used on the Sydney news (ATN-7) for some time, it was also used for GMV6 Shepparton and BTV6 Ballarat as their news theme as well as RVN2 Wagga Wagga/AVN4 Wodonga/Albury (known as The Prime Network).
    • "Haydn Sargent's Brisbane"/"State Affair" which were current affair programmes that came on before Willesee at Seven (later Willesee 81 and Willesee 82) direct from ATN-7 Sydney. (ADS- 7 (now ADS-10) Adelaide and TVW-7 Perth followed with their own versions of "State Affair" in 1981 and 1982 respectively.

If you have any of them, then please notify me.
