I standby what I said earlier, WJZY & WMYT will be sold again is why what is going on with on-air talent departures. Nexstar only wants the stations because FTS was willing to pawn off for Seattle and Milwaukee Fox affiliates. Nexstar is cheap and bad for business in a rapidly growing, major market like Charlotte. It's why Nexstar is dismantling great locally recognized talent by ending or not renewing all of this valuable talent. You also going to continue seeing this newsroom set...

Time will tell, but I continue to believe that they are still getting a new set.  Their current set-up in the newsroom definitely has a "temporary" look to it.  There seems to be a large printed curtain to one side of the newsroom behind the talent...or at least that's the closest thing I can compare it to.  I also believe it's increasingly possible that they will adopt Nexstar graphics...given that the Fox graphics is now over a year old for the station.

Besides, Fox 46 losing big talent is only half the story.  A number of people have also joined the station in the more recent past, including some from KOLR10 in the last year or two.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the video in question and why was it taken down? Was it copyright-related, and if so, who was it?

If you don’t feel comfortable sharing publicly you can also inbox me.

I’m really curious as I have precautions in place and a “Do Not Post” list of companies I avoid at all costs, and if this is one I need to add, I’d like to know.

I do also agree with you that I wish there was a viable alternative to YouTube. I would’ve left years ago but have stayed only because it has reach.

Sure.  It was an episode of a podcast I do.  It was not copyright-related.  They removed it citing misinformation.

On a different note: Since you mentioned that you have a Do Not Post list, I will say that one video I produced last summer was later marked as having copyrighted material.  I'm not 100 percent sure if I remember right but I believe A&E was a claimant.  I thought at the time (and still continue to believe) that it was a false claim.  But nonetheless, I removed that video from YouTube on my own to avoid any potential issue.

  3. For the first time ever last week, one of my videos was removed from YouTube.  I never had YouTube remove a video before, but I see that I'm in good company.

I find it completely ridiculous that YouTube is seeking to punish the very people who contribute content to the platform.  If this trend continues, I really hope there is a comparable video platform for people to go to.

  4. If Nexstar isn't planning to keep WJZY, then why build them a new set?  It makes zero sense to give them a new set if they would just sell them right after.

On Spectrum cable in Southern California, the on-screen channel guide listing still shows WGNA (and a very small blurry NewsNation logo that nobody can see). I have a 77" QLED tv in my bedroom and can hardly see it. Also, the Spectrum app lists just WGN AMERICA in the channel listings. How is anyone even supposed to find this joke news network?

I imagine that it takes time to switch these types of things over to the new brand.  I will say that I get Spectrum where I currently live in the Charlotte area.  Sometime after NewsNation debuted as a newscast, WGN America went from being letterboxed to full screen. Despite this, NewsNation still appears on my Spectrum service in standard-definition (at last check).  But it sure seems that they are in no hurry to switch Spectrum fully over to the HD feed.

  6. In my personal opinion, it is completely unfair to consider NewsNation a fail less than one year after they launched (as a newscast).  I think it is self-evident that there are those who literally want NewsNation to crash and burn, because Nexstar had the idea of creating a news channel.  I think we can all agree that any start-up has to make changes as time goes on with plenty of room for improvement -- and this is no different.  They are undoubtedly experiencing growing pains and people should keep that fact in mind.  I also think it is also unfair to tie NewsNation directly to the decline of WGN America.

WGN America had seen better days before Nexstar, to put it mildly.  And now Nexstar is injecting new life into the channel under the new NewsNation brand.   As much as people want to say otherwise, WGN America was not going to survive long-term without major changes. And now Nexstar is making changes that, in my opinion, puts the channel on the best possible path to being successful.  I personally would've preferred that they kept the WGN America name, at least nominally, to maintain continuity of the brand.  But nonetheless, I think NewsNation has a solid concept and they are well on their way to fulfilling their mission.

I agree that NewsNation cable feed should be more accessible to digital users, but we should also remember that they have to turn a profit and just making it free over the Internet, while trying to be successful on cable, can short-circuit their success on cable.

Finally, referring to the NY Times piece, I think it is ridiculous to suggest NewsNation has some kind of unique bias.  I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot, the NY Times would have no objections.    I perceive NewsNation as being objective and trying to be fair.  There is no such thing as a perfect news outlet.  But I would say NewsNation is among the best on cable right now for straight news.

Still no weekend news.  But they have added a weekday 5am edition of Wake Up Wiregrass, as well as an hour-long 11am show called WDHN Daytime (since Noon CT is ABC's GMA3 hour).

I'm surprised Nexstar hasn't already had WDHN add in weekend newscasts.  At the very least, they should simulcast newscasts from WMBB if not do things in-house.

  8. Glad to see that WSYM got its own in-house newscasts.

I wonder how it is that Scripps can get WSYM's in-house newscasts going in mere months after the announcement, yet WSFL still doesn't have their in-house newscasts more than a year later after the original announcement.

  9. I currently live in the Charlotte area but I like being able to occasionally watch the local news from KOLR10.    If they go behind a pay-wall, it will leave me without the ability to watch them (since I'm not currently living in the market).

I really, really hope that Nexstar doesn't start restricting access to the live streams.

I see that to watch livestreams of WBRE/WYOU newscasts now, you have to login with a participating TV provider. So far, the only participating providers are four small local operations. Is Nexstar testing out restricting local station livestreams to pay TV subscribers or something?

    https://www.pahomepage.com/live-stream/

That would be a terrible mistake if Nexstar rolled out restrictions to the remainder of its stations.   And besides, it makes zero sense for them to do for local stations.  They broadcast OTA, so why they would require people to sign-in via a TV provider has me confused as to the logic of it.

Agreed on WMGT.  And to think that the WGXA situation was all because WPGA dropped ABC over "moral" issues, and that was a trainwreck of its own.  I'm sure that Macon doing newscasts for Albany's WFXL stretches them even thinner.   It's the darkside of Sinclair few talk about, especially in this part of the country where they literally stretch themselves thin just to put enough on the air for them to offer the illusion of doing newscasts.

WBIR, although it's full on Tegna, still has a lot of the "folksy-ness" features that make it unique.   And their WTNZ newscasts do not use the C-Clarity theme, but use Arnold's Canvas instead.  I wonder if Lockwood has a hand in this?

Before the current graphics, the WTNZ newscasts actually used Raycom's Limerick graphics for the opens for a time until 2018.   I like the unique approach WTNZ has, instead of just using C Clarity.  I hope the trend continues.

This feels like an overreaction; I don’t even think this is a suspendable offense in my eyes.  She made a mistake not having the station sign off on her apparence but the scene is innocuous enough and the content certainly wouldn’t violate any morals clause.  Hopefully this backlash will find Pinto new work.

Definitely an overreaction by the station.  Good for her to take the high road in the announcement.   I think the station should rethink their decision to terminate.

  13. On those nights where they dumped the headlines, I'm curious as to how they made up for the extra time.   Did they opt for a long close or do they have some package on standby that they can run at the end?   After all, we're probably looking at a solid two minutes (certainly well more than a minute) for headlines.  That's a lot of time to make up for to avoid coming up short by the end of the show.

And for some reason they're still using Tower and the same open.  I wonder if those will change in the coming days/weeks.

    Who were the other 2?

Lindsay Clein -- a news anchor who is still there at last check

Meteorologist John Zeigler -- he was only at WJZY for a short time before going to a different station

I haven't seen this posted but KOLR 10/ Ozarks Fox meteorologist Elisa Raffa has left to join Nexstar station Fox46 in Charlotte.

That's interesting.  She makes the third person I know to join WJZY after leaving KOLR10.

  17. People may hate me for saying this, but I'm now at the point of saying Sinclair should just shut down the RSNs (or perhaps consolidate to a few stronger ones) and move on.    Obviously the fallout during COVID is not Sinclair's fault in the least, and unfortunately the lack of abundant sports programming right now is not helping matters.   They should leverage their station portfolio by expanding their original content for the stations.
