I like those graphics on WIFR a lot.

The "bandicam" over the video is a huge giveaway that it is screen capture software. I use a TV Tuner and a ELGATO HD 60S. It is much better quality then screen capture.
That only works if you're within range of the TV signal. Recording off the Internet is trickier.
I'm grateful for those who put in the effort to upload news opens and such, regardless of the means of recording it.

Has anyone told DADOSUPERMARIO 2 how bad the quality of his videos are. At least when I had videos on YouTube, I really focused on the quality.
His videos are fine.

The set on WTKR now looks really depressing with the dark blues they implemented for the Scripps look (especially at 11pm). I think they need much lighter shades of blue.

I must say...even though I was expecting an overall downgrade in the brand quality, this is just BAD. And hearing those NBC chimes on a CBS station must be quite jarring to say the least.

Follow up. And to no surprise, CBS & MyNet are switching places on the Cable dial.
CBS moving to Cable 5 and MyNet (KYES-DT4) is moving to 11, beginning Sunday, August 14th.
Also, it appears that they've replaced the "11" logo for the "KYES 5" logo on the bug.
That logo bug looks really bad.

Has anyone had a chance to watch KTVA 11 News since the announcement? I wonder if the copyright L3 has changed to Gray yet, or if not, what does it say?

I could see one unlikely scenario that preserves 2 operations: the ABC and Fox affiliations are essentially held by phantoms in the market. If someone else like Nexstar wanted to step in, they could gain the KTVA license, take those affiliations and keep things with 2 news operations?
I read an article from KTVA's website that said the parent company used someone to find a buyer but couldn't find one.
QuoteAccording to the press release, DMH had been working with an outside consultant to find a buyer but was unable to find one inside or outside of Alaska.
I'm really surprised that even Nexstar didn't buy. Given that Mission is now buying WPIX, I would've thought that Nexstar would be free to buy a station like KTVA. Very unfortunate of what is happening to KTVA.

So is KTVA's news department going to be shut down?
That isn't clear at the moment. I hope the news dept is allowed to remain (actually I wish both are), though I'm not holding my breath much considering it's Gray.

Did Gray acquire the KTVA news department too? Or just the affiliation?
Just the CBS affiliation. But that entry on NMSA makes me think the (formerly) CBS 11 news dept has moved to KYES.
Per Wikipedia, KYES will simulcast on KTVA...for now.
-
News Music Search Archive now shows Icon News in use on KYES. So it would appear that maybe KTVA's newscasts have, in fact, moved over to KYES.
The big question is now whether Gray allows KTUU and KYES (formerly CBS 11) to retain unique news departments.
This entire deal makes me really wish Nexstar got KTVA instead. Even if they had bought both KTVA and KTUU, Nexstar would've at least kept both news brands.

Does anyone actually believe Gray will keep the news operations separate? I personally think they'll merge it down the road, although I hope not.
And how in the world can this possibly be legal? I know Gray only legally acquired the affiliation and "intellectual" assets (plus the Southeast Alaska stations), but I have a hard time seeing how this is legal. You have one owner with TWO big four affiliated stations at this point--supposedly with two separate news departments? Hello FCC?
-
It would be a shame of WOIO dumped those graphics this soon. It's the best package they've had since the days of 19 Action News. Nothing in Gray's current graphics portfolio would be nearly as good as the current gfx on WOIO.

I'm glad to hear that Mission is buying WPIX. This is a smart move on Nexstar's part. Hopefully the deal is allowed to go through.

If this is the first sign of CNBC wanting Conservative personalities on its air, it's not a good start.

KABB is getting a hybrid package, and it's taking longer to iron out the bugs since they're the only station that is going to have it in the group.
I suspect y'all will probably hate it, but stay tuned.
This should be interesting. I personally will be happy to see a station take the graphics and customize it...as long as they do it right.

They could really do without the big space between Montana's and News Leader.

The Weekend News is back, and it’s Major Garrett anchoring from the Washington bureau.
I'm assuming it was the newsroom setup, or was it from the studio?

I'll admit I actually kinda like that WSFL logo. I don't think it'll work for newscasts though, but we'll see how they choose to brand that.

Here's an article done by NewscastStudio about the new WTSP logo.

Although I generally take the laissez-faire approach when it comes to the FCC, there is a part of me that wants to see the requirement (for having a legal counsel attest to the application being made in good order) required of all companies.
But I'm glad there is finally some type of resolution to this dispute and Sinclair can finally put the Tribune merger fiasco behind them.

As someone who feels lukewarm, at best, on this new package, this is honestly why it doesn't click for me. You just outlined several little adjustments that would elevate it, while adhering to modern design. Attention to detail like that wouldn't abandon simplicity, which is a perfectly fine direction, but simple and boring two different things, and this leans decidedly more towards the latter.
As for the WLS comparison, this is, to me, where the similarities begin and end.
I completely agree. I also think there is a way to implement 2D design without forsaking original creativity (Hearst, Sinclair, Nexstar, and even some Gray pkgs do this very well). Whatever the trend is for news graphics for any given time, maintaining creativity is key.
Personally I think the best implementation so far has been at WCPO, because they at least managed to make it slightly original to them by using a custom color scheme on the opens. I still wish that the gfx pkg as a whole could incorporate timelapse or something similar (moving traffic with the skyline in the backdrop, perhaps). The time/temp logo bug is still the #1 issue that needs to be addressed.
While I'm not a "fan" of this package to say the least, I have warmed up somewhat as I see some stations do better implementation with the pkg -- unlike the current Tegna branding, which in general has not and will never grow on me.

I worked with a news anchor who battled an alcohol addiction. It's not just about someone having too much fun and getting carried away, there sometimes are much deeper issues we don't know about. My co-workers and I tried to build up a strong support network around her, but she still ended up losing her job and eventually her life due to this addiction.
When we're talking about on air talent on this website, I don't think it's a lot to ask that you try to have some kind of respect for the person - as we have no idea what they were going through when they made the decisions they did.
AMEN.

Scripps Graphics 2019
in Graphics

Although it's not quite the worst virtual set I've seen on a station, it is unacceptable for a CBS affiliate to use a virtual set like that. For something like a college newscast or podcast, that is one thing. But Scripps can and should do better for a station like this.
