you people are all off your rockers...

this is not what is on bryon allen's mind...

    period... end of story...

this isn't lifetime movies presents tvnewstalk's collective wet dream...

maybe TEGNA is appealing to these people because of the way they do things...

mark my words... some day you will wish more owners were like TEGNA...

when those other stations are going DARK!!!

I say this respectfully.  I may have a different opinion than you do but let's get along and not resort to speaking like that...

Byron Allen isn't going to run the day to day operations of a local station group. If he acquires TEGNA, the corporate management team comes with it.

This may come as a complete shock and surprise to you all but local stations are about more than news music, sets and graphics... TEGNA has a large corporate staff to help their 60+ stations run their day to day broadcast, digital and sales ad ops.

That's a given.  Of course Allen won't be making day to day decisions for Tegna.  But he will likely install more like-minded people as him to run Tegna day-to-day.  Whether that includes members of the current Tegna team is not assured.  If Allen wanted, he could decide that everyone gets replaced on Day 1.  I suspect a hybrid of the two will happen.  Some might carry over, but others might be shown the door.  One thing is for certain: major changes will be substantially made with the Tegna stations, widely ranging from on air branding to journalistic standards, if or when ownership changes.

And when I refer to "C Clarity", that term is inclusive of the social media-style presentation as well.  The music is a mere symptom of a much greater problem there.

So now the race to acquire Tegna is now coming down to 3 (4 if you count Standard General) hedge fund companies and a former stand-up comedian (Byron Allen).

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-17/apollo-allen-maintain-pursuit-of-tegna-after-gray-drops-out

At this point a stand-up comedian (albeit former) would do better running Tegna or whatever the final entity would be known by than Tegna as it currently exists...

Meanwhile KFSM has now adopted the Tegna website layout. Not sure how that got lost in the mist of this whole Gray/Tegna/Apollo talk but here it is.

And once again Tegna doesn't bother trying to make the logo portion legible with this new website design.  Albeit the '5' and 'news' are, but the slogan is barely readable.

  5. Well if things keep going in this trajectory, I would personally recommend Sinclair does something to offload its debt (whether that's selling some of their ownership stake or something else).

But my gut feeling is that all will work out fine for Sinclair once the dust settles on the rebranding strategy and what happens to the programming at-large on the RSNs.  Restoring certainty on the exact form of the RSNs will have going forward will go a long way to restoring confidence.

I feel like Rupert walking away from the RSN business had some to do with this. I think though it's on Sinclair's stubborness, Chris Ripley's arrogance and most of all Sinclair wanting to overcharge for these RSNs (prime example Sinclair is asking distributors $6.50 for Marquee. No that's not a typo that's what Sinclair is asking these distributors in the Chicagoland region to carry Marquee) and at the end of the day I can't blame Comcast for wanting to say no to that and I don't think that lowering the costs of carrying these RSNs is going to help things either for Sinclair because remember, companies like Sinclair are in the business of making money not lose money.

Now that I think about it Sinclair is lucky this year is an election year because unless they get their act together they're in deep and I mean DEEP trouble for 2021 and beyond and there could very well be consequences for more than just the RSNs.

P.S. I'm surprised no one has even asked this question but how much is Sinclair asking these distributors to pay for these FSNs compared to when Fox owned the RSNs?

Let's also remember that Sinclair doesn't own the RSNs outright.  It's basically a consortium with Entertainment Studios, with Entertainment Studios holding something called an "equity stake".  To a point Sinclair is probably obligated to charge a minimum to offset the massive debt they have incurred with buying the RSNs.  How much those minimums are to offset any loss is not something I'm an expert at, but there most surely is a minimum amount.

Also, I'm not familiar with the legal verbiage of the papers that were signed when Sinclair/Entertainment Studios closed on the purchase, but I would imagine that any major decision would require both Sinclair and Entertainment Studios to agree (whether that's the amount charged or branding decisions).  Sinclair is probably not able to make as robust of decisions since there is a second party involved.  Just a guess there.

That's not to say Sinclair is in any kind of financial trouble, but as a business they do have to ask a certain amount to avoid a net loss while also accomplishing their goals with the RSNs.

  7. Sometime shortly before the latest elections in Israel, KAN 11 underwent a significant update to its news program.  They debuted an updated music theme (which I must say is very good).  The open titles begins at 2:02.  They also updated their graphics, which basically keeps the general concept of the old graphics but this update makes it look a lot more immersive.  And last but not least, they also built a new studio.  At first glance it might appear somewhat similar to the old studio, but they actually have a real newsroom as the backdrop (instead of a simulated newsroom) and the set design is a lot more circular than before.

  8. Wow, that is a very impressive design.  My only critique is the use of those GMA-style LED doorways (not a fan of that)...but otherwise I give the set design an A+.  Very nice.

I wonder if they will have David normally sit at the bigger desk in the middle or on one of the desks to the side.  That middle desk seems really big for only one person to sit at.  So it should be interesting to see if that desk arrangement stays that way once WNT moves back in.

On a side note, interesting that WNT is still on the temporary set up tonight.

Couldn’t catch a screencap but the monitor on the desk was turned off a few times throughout last night’s WNT. Possibly some technical difficulties?

I remember something happening back in January where the videowall behind David went black for a short sec then turned back on.  In this video at the 0:35 you can see the videowall go dark briefly.  Just a guess, but it was probably a goof in the control room that led to that happening.  It appears they held on to that live shot a big longer than normal to try to "mask" that issue as best as they could.  Since they were scrambling to adapt to the breaking news happening right then, I couldn't really blame them.

Either way, given the leaked pictures purported to show the remodeled TV3, it's probably safe to assume we're very close to its debut.  So any issues with the temporary set will probably not get as much priority as it normally would.  (I'm just guessing there.)

I guess the CURRENT World News set-up still includes the 2nd video wall. Maybe I just missed it, but this is the first time I've seen an exchange at the desk all week.

I saw that last night as well.  I found it kind of weird that the monitor in the front of the desk appears blurry with that angled shot.

I have heard WLEX has no mandate to update graphics.  I'm curious about the post that mentioned all of the Cordillera stations are to soon be required to change looks. What is your source?

    Glad to hear this!!

Wow, a sigh a relief for WLEX.  I hope KSBY also gets exempted, at least music wise.

Was there today.  The set is a little over halfway finished.   It maximizes the space in a manner similar to 30 Rock's 3A.  Different functions for different parts of the studio, all integrated into a single unifying set.   If you remember the midterm election set you have an idea of the look.   Just over 2 weeks to air!

    Deadline is Super Tuesday.

    Correct on all counts!

Wow, this should be quite something to see launch.  I don't know if you're at liberty of answering this question, but do they still have the newsroom on the two sides of TV3?

I’m assuming this is the space they’ll use for World News Tonight and Election coverage?

Also I would bet it would be ready by Super Tuesday

It's actually in a different area now.  Just the desk and a single videowall behind, not on the side.  Work on building structure mainly complete.  Set has been going up for about a week.

I was thinking it would likely take until at least the start of May sweeps to get the work done in TV3 (given how major the work is).  Is it possible they'll have it done sooner?
