In Houston, KPRC 2 continued to air "Maury" all the way until 2004, when what was then KHWB WB 39 picked it up. I think "Jerry Springer" also moved to 39 from 2 at that same time.

And as far as I'm concerned, there are only four "Big Three" affiliates airing "Maury": KDNL (St. Louis, ABC), WNCF (Montgomery, ABC), WGBC-DT2 (Meridian, NBC), and the biggest surprise to me, WJZ (Baltimore, CBS).

That was a different show entirely (The Maury Povich Show), before Maury got trashy.

WNBC-TV had the early seasons of The Jerry Springer Show as well, thanks to its long-standing relationship with Multimedia (channel 4 also carried Donahue and Sally Jessy Raphael, Multimedia's two flagship talkers). In New York, both programs moved to WPIX around 1998, long after Springer went all-conflict and just as Maury was heading in that direction.

  3. KUMV TV-8 Night Report (September 21, 1991) Sounds like a very early Bill Ratner sighting in the introduction of the newscast.

I think the reason they that CBSTVD/Sony is so strict about Wheel, when compared to Jeopardy is the fact that Wheel of Fortune started as a daytime show on NBC, and the original contracts were written to protect the versions from clashing with each other.

Although the Network version of Wheel of Fortune hasn't been on air for over 30 years, they most likely kept the language in the Wheel contract to limit the timeslots which it can be aired (either out of laziness, or the fact that because of essentially being limited to prime access is why the show skyrocketed in popularity), and is likely why the Saturday rerun slot was created for the show, to give affiliates the ability to air shows preempted earlier in the week.

The current version of Jeopardy started out as a syndicated program, and since there wasn't a related network version on air, the distributors let affiliates show Jeopardy in any slot.

That, combined with the aforementioned returning champions, and the fact an repeat block was created for daytime, is why affiliates are able to air Jeopardy at any other time if preempted, and why 99% of the time Jeopardy is given higher priority over Wheel, even when Wheel has slightly better ratings.

I think this explains to me why KTRK in Houston (the only ABC O&O not airing the show) may not be getting the syndicated "Wheel" anytime soon.

IIRC, KDFW (Now Fox) did the same thing when they were a CBS station. The Price is Right and The Bold & The Beautiful moved to independent station (Now CBS) KTVT in the fall of '94 after KDFW preempt them in favor for Phil Donahue and short-lived syndicated court show, Juvenile Justice. KTVT also cleared select CBS prime time shows at KDFW preempted in order to run locally produced specials.

Speaking of "Juvenile Justice", AFAIK, there is absolutely no footage of the show surfacing anywhere on the internet!

I and another forum member have seen a WLS open and lower third demo, and a WABC 11pm teaser promo demo, using this style of animation, with the windowed, collage-like imagery, those shades of blue & yellow, and the arrows. The versions we saw used the old ABC icon, as the new one had only recently been revealed, but that's the only key difference.

Do you have the links to them?

Yeah honestly, I think its a bit basic, but it has grown on me. I hope the Circle 7s still get to keep their identities. We’ll have to see what happens, maybe in November, when the sweeps occurs, we will see an update in the graphics rollout for the stations? All of the O&O stations have been with their current graphics for over 5 years now. I hope WABC really changes their graphics, its always been subpar in my opinion from when they had rolled it out in 2016.

Same here for KTRK, my local ABC O&O station that has used the current graphics package for over 6 years and, by today's standards, hasn't aged well IMO.

NY people, any particular reason why WWOR My 9 is pre-empting MNTV primetime Dateline for an encore of last night's Masked Singer at 8 and the premiere of The Big Leap at 9 (which is also airing at 8 on FOX)? They weren't pre-empted last night.

Same is happening in Houston, TX, on KTXH My20Vision at Midnight and 1am, proven by a promo I saw today.
