This doesn’t look like ‘change’ to me. It still looks like an American parody news outlet from the mid-2000s, to be honest

Yesterday with FOX's broadcast of the NFC Championship, they showed a new matchup graphic at the start of their broadcast. The rest of the broadcast pretty much used the same graphics package they have been using since 2020. Is this possibly a teaser to a new graphics package debuting at Super Bowl LVII? This new matchup design looks a little out of brand to their current package. The logos are very shiny and if you look closely, there is diagonal lines showing in the background of the team logos. Normally, I wouldn't think this would be a teaser. But after looking back at their past opening matchup graphics, they look completely different. So this definitely confirms the graphic used here is brand new.
I really thought you guys were talking about association football (FIFA) from the title. But anyways, it’s just the standard over gratuitous 3D that people hate and no one does anything about, but here it looks decidedly…average.

And make CBS go where, WXIA, WSB? Obviously pure speciation but that's quite a thought. To be fair WSB isn't as appealing to be an affiliate for as it was say thirty years ago during the last major switch's
CBS would just go to WUPA. We were discussing the rationale behind removing CBS references from WANF.

I don't understand. DMAs still exist. It is how programming is sold, how broadcast coverage is defined, how ownership within a market is limited, etc.
The thing with DMAs is that Nielsen has basically stopped publishing rankings every year. The FCC is looking for a replacement metric as of now.

I can see this becoming the large-market Gray package for the bigger stations, say up to DMA 50 to 60. However, I think the honeycomb package will be the default small-market package (i.e., below 100). The mid-market stations could go either way.
Stations like WBTV, WBRC, WOIO and WVUE I could see getting something like this.
Nielsen DMAs basically no longer exist, so I think we would now have to go off by metro area population.
The old Meredith package was based off of WOIO’s, but first they need to fix their VHF/encoding issues and potentially drop a few subchannels before anyone will be convinced to watch WOIO to get new graphics.

The only use CBS has had for WUPA since it came back into the O&O portfolio was using it as a negotiation tactic with WGCL. Every affiliation agreement negotiation until now had the threat of CBS saying that, despite their "best efforts" they weren't "able to come to a satisfactory agreement with WGCL" and will be moving CBS to WUPA. Yeah, Paramount is going to pull this "we have no plans to launch news on our standalone CW stations..." right now because saying otherwise would likely breach the affiliation agreement contracts they already have in those markets.
CBSViacom/Paramount/etc has been more than transparent with their plans for local stations moving forward, mainly via all the PR they're putting out for Detroit. It should surprise no one if they finally pull the trigger in Atlanta and move CBS to WUPA (and, honestly, in Tampa and Seattle as well). Gray seems to be able to see the writing on the wall, and has prepared a new brand devoid of any CBS branding, one that may very well be set up to "borrow" a lot of CBS' new initiatives before CBS has the chance to set them up locally.
The ball is in Gray's possession now. CBS can either continue the affiliation agreement with Gray calling the shots (so to speak) or they can try to launch their own newsroom that will be seen as "copying" what Atlanta News First already did. Unless Nexstar decides that minority stake in ownership means CBS doesn't need to pay affiliation fees, there is no incentive for CBS to continue to keep their CW stations affiliated with the network.
WGCL/WANF switches from CBS to NBC if that happens?
Yes, I know that is pure speculation, but it's what WRAL did, and Gray doesn't have too much to lose now they ditched the CBS branding.

Than more news or Jimmy at 11pm but west coast editions go away then. I’m talking 6:30 there.
For this (Nightly News at 10pm) to work, the West Coast edition as seen on KNBC and KNSD would need to be scrapped and the regular version aired on time-delay. It would integrate nicely thanks to those two stations having 11pm local newscasts.

Yeah it wouldn’t be worth it. Might as well air a live newscast at 10 ET if they’re gonna go that route.
Now could they consider moving Nightly News to 10? That would make everybody, the viewers and the affiliates (aka O&O management) happy.

Remember when Gray tried to recreate WABC’s old look?
Looking at this and seeing the Beehive graphics, it’s clear that Gray really needs a new graphics department.

That Cleveland 19 News brand suck. He really should stop hopefully there still include the CBS46 as the general brand.
It’s just “19 News” now, with “Cleveland’s CBS 19” as it’s general brand, thanks to him.

Not that a national newscast at 10 PM is implausible, but Nightly News is a fixture in the evenings after work. It fits its time slot. Would we want to mess with that?
Because The National airs at 10 and American/Canadian work culture isn't too different?

I guess I’ll ask this question: Has NBC considered moving Nightly News to 10 instead? From my understanding, the US is really the only country where a major broadcaster doesn’t carry a nightly evening newscast in prime time.
They probably should air it at 10 and make it hourlong, and they already replay it at 10 on NBC News Now. Doing so would guarantee a monopoly on national news at this time.

(Then again, none of them had any advance knowledge of The WB and UPN joining forces!)
They sell shows to themselves?

The graphics package on the NOW newscasts are not the upcoming CBS O&O graphics. They’re still a work in progress.
However, I still think that whatever new “O&O package” comes out will be extremely similar to this one, especially now it’s seeing more use on-air and not just online.

Here’s the full debut edition of the show, recorded off WBFS.
The now-garbage 2016 graphics has reached the beginning of the end. Good riddance. I wonder how WJZ will look like with this.

Tim Dadabo. I completely agree that he’s awful.
Rey did indeed design this.
Why the actual heck would you cheap out on a VO when you know you'd be better off not hiring one?
Also, this is Rey's work? What? I just thought of it as an in-house Hothaus/Gray ripoff cobbled with existing Linear Drift graphics they could get for free. Woof.

Indeed quite a massive upgrade, though if I had a thing to nitpick on, I wish those gradients would be smaller then they are here. Otherwise, it's looking great, and hoping for NS2K+'s return!

Why the hell does anyone seem to like this on YT? This is just TOO busy and inconsistent, even the lower thirds are hard to look at and don't get me started on the intro! Trust me I like 3D news opens these days but this is NOT how you do it! Who approved this and Areil, KHNL is the only station that it works with!
WBNS: "Am I a joke to you?"
But yes, I concur. I suspect this is an in-house pack given all these unnecessary extras. This could quite be the worst in-house job a Nexstar station has done.

SkyCam goes back to their days in the late 70s and made the changes in the mid 90s. Channel 6 called theirs SKY 6 from the late 80s/90s and again 2009-10. There no chopper now.
Yeah, thanks to Uncle Perry. Wasn’t the helicopter axed after he took over WCMH?
But, this is the Gray thread, and we’re talking about a market that doesn’t have a Gray station and one Gray continues to ignore.

I noitced that KTVK/KPHO recently switched their weather branding to First Alert Weather... I also so see WGCL did too.. is this a requirement for the former Meredith stations?? I see WNEM has yet to change (and they can since it isn't used in the Flint market)
Appearing like an O&O is my guess. But I really don't know since these are not former O&Os.

I wonder when WOIO will switch to the new look. they still have the urgent look with First, Fair, Everywhere since 2019.
That is Gray graphics. WOIO was the first ex-Raycom station to switch out of LIM4. They're not getting new graphics at the moment, because they're not pressured to do so.

I can’t believe it. KCBD is now the final Gray station to have LIM4.1. No update on when it will get Gray graphics. Limerick will continue to live on via Lockwood’s WFXG for the forseeable future.
