They have launched at least a "preview" of the new set.  Ill grab more photos from their livestream as I can. As of now,  graphics remain the same (I'm wondering if this is a staggered launch to the 5pm show)

They've been tightly shot so probably not to give it away...here's 2 screenshots.

Many similarities to the WANF set, so far so good! Hopefully we do indeed get new graphics!

  2. Well on this mornings broadcast of 'The Fairbanks Morning News" on Fairbanks AK NBC affiliate KTVF, a new open debuted, though its a werid combo of the old graphics and the new ones. It looks even more bad with the bad quality of the morning broadcast, perhaps it'll look better tonight. Everything else seems to be the same, no new video panel graphic, lower thirds, or anything, but in the intro a new logo showed itself, but the old logo is still around for everything else, maybe more will come.

  3. A bit delayed in posting this but in his first "state of Gray" address, President Howell said in research Gray has done, a year ago WGCL/WPCH had a 9% first preference rate amongst Atlanta resident's. Under Gray and Atlanta News First, WANF/WPCH have have grown to a 24% first preference rate! Expand upon that, take that how you will!

  4. Maybe this needs it's own thread but Fairbanks Ak NBC affiliate KTVF has announced they are upgrading their graphics system and hence getting new graphics through commercials and asks for viewers patience. They seem to be getting the WMC/WTOC graphics and a new logo (don't know what the name of it is) so at least it is not honeycomb!

Yeah, but not a single CBS logo on their homepage? You really have to dig on their website to find any reference to CBS. I couldn't find any. Since the Detroit News launch seems to be going well, don't be surprised if Atlanta isn't next. They already have a 30-minute newscast produced in Dallas.

Also, if you dig back into google, there was an announcement in March, 2020 about Meredith re-upping with CBS. The previous renewal was in 2017 so we are on a 3-year timeline.

Sorry if this is speculation, but given what the WANF website looks like, I think it's more than speculation at this point.

Ok sorry if I've been living under a rock throughout this thread's time but what's the speculation/rumor over WANF?

Not to worry. Word is new graphics are on the way with ideally everything else (new shows, graphics, etc..) in place by Licht 1 year anniversary with CNN.

Source that new graphics are being worked on, and what do we mean by that, a whole refresh of individual show intros, L3'ds or all? Also by Licht's anniversary, that's fast approaching!

  7. I've withheld my thoughts on all of this for a bit but here is my 2 cents. All of this just seems unnecessary and a downgrade in all honesty, the graphics and set. The set looks incomplete and disjointed, I would expect this from a station like WPLG in the late 2000's trying to copy WSVN. And the graphics are also disjointed, messy, and hard to look at in the modern sense, again something you would expect from the late 2000's

  8. I at first did not like it, simply because it was different, but the more I looked at it, that was the whole point and it was executed great! It's nice to see a good set that releys on texture and depth instead of nothing but screens upon screens again. The only thing I would change is the lone tv screen beside the weather area, either having three monitors stacked or a large vertical screen (something WAGA like) might have looked better.

The obsession with numbers and call signs is going to be your undoing. It’s weak branding and a relic of the old age. This is the future, I think you will be disappointed when rather than numbers coming back, call signs go away altogether.

Honestly I have to agree, I really would like to know how the whole "call sign/ call number branding" came to be as it's uniquely American and confusing for international spectators. You have "Global News BC" "BBC Look North" "9 News Queensland" but not "ABC Philly News" or something I don't know. Was it because early station owners wanted to be more unique or something more complicated?

If local stations adapt to the new logo this is how it would look here locally for Lexington.

    This isn't "better" at all.

Not for Lexington but I don't know, at this rate anything would improve WXIA's logo!

Vivid Zero added the new O&O weather graphics to their gallery: https://vividzero.com/work/abc-weather/

Considering that nothing else outside of the weather elements have shown up anywhere, plus Vivid Zero has put up a gallery of what's already made it to air, could this mean that the long-rumored new O&O look is just standardized weather graphics and that the "much more to come on this project" simply means that the rest of the O&Os will be adopting it soon???

That's just dumb, a graphics package for weather that completely feels out of place considering all of ABC O&O graphics
