  1. Well, the flip just happened a few minutes ago at Midnight ET so unfortunately WCBS Newsradio 880 is now WHSQ ESPN 880. I was able to catch the last few minutes of WCBS on the Audacy app before the final sign off.
  2. I don’t know when exactly it started this week but KABC brought back talent opens to the newscasts for the first time since 2012. I just caught one at 4:30 this evening.
  3. KTLA started using a remix of the morning theme of their Connect package on the weekend morning news today and I was very surprised by it. I guess they are trying differentiate the weekend opens from the weekday opens to give it its own identity.
  4. KDFW added 4pm and 6:30pm newscasts yesterday to it's line up but most Central time FOX stations start their evening news at 4pm unless it's a smaller market. Other than the open, there is nothing special about the 4 and it the same typical newscast formula just like the other three stations at that hour.
  5. Earlier this week, KTVU changed it’s 4am hour of Mornings on 2 to Headlines on 2 and it’s sounds like a very interesting concept because not too many people are watching news at that time of the morning. KTVU is the only Bay Area station that has a 4am hour because the other stations cut back to 5am due to the pandemic.
  6. Well, it sounds upbeat, fun, and it has a good vibe to it so it’s fine by me.
  7. Since last Friday, ABC7 has been using different music that sounds unrelated to the Eyewitness News theme for the 11am closing credits and whatever it is they are using has that LA vibe compared to the WABC closing theme they were originally using for the credits.
  8. Surprisingly, Liberté Chan came back to fill in for weather on the 11am show not too long ago. It’s been a while since she’s been on KTLA but I know she’s done some traveling and commercials for IQAir.
  9. It seems like the duopoly is only interested in hiring younger people that look attractive because it fits the “LA vibe”. Vaughn is just your typical news anchor but they didn’t have the decency to tell him why he was fired. Then, they hired Chauncy Glover to replace Vaughn as primetime anchor as well as meteorologist Dani Ruberti to possibly push Evelyn Taft aside even though Taft wanted her hours cut back. Last year’s rebrand to KCAL News is a sign that lots of changes are happening and nothing can be done to stop it.
  10. It sounds like the primary open of CBS Enforcer Series 5.
  11. KNXV and KSAZ have been using their weather brandings for a long time now that they are recognizable brandings on those stations. CBS5/3TV and now KPNX (12 News) was just forced into it because of recent Gray and Tegna company mandates.
  12. @C Block I am aware that every station in every market has a different style of covering news and different pacing and in this case, Miami is more of a fast-paced market compared to Denver which takes a softer approach and there is nothing wrong with that as long as the most important stories are being covered.
  13. The Miami TV market is a more serious news market compared to Denver and even though the newsplex idea is a little bit over the top and other news outlets copied it, that is what made WSVN unique and the quality of the journalism there is what makes it the news leader in South Florida. As for KMGH, they have been doing the neighborhood news thing and Scripps has been cutting costs lately so it doesn’t really matter if the set is small or not.
  14. I’m glad Sinclair is being held accountable for this because most people trust local news and by reading off the same script, they are just brainwashing people to believe in the company’s bias and local news is supposed to be an impartial source of news. Plus, they have run a lot of their stations horribly by getting rid of local news in certain markets, not investing in some of the stations, and pushing their conservative agenda in major cities like DC, Portland, and Seattle, where most people don’t have conservative views.
  15. Dallas Raines celebrated his 40th anniversary with the station today. Time sure goes by very quick these days.
  16. Weekend morning anchor Samatha Chatman returned to the anchor desk today after 2 months of absence due to surgery. She sounded great on air today.
  17. I'm very surprised that they let the 2012 closing theme play out in full at the end 11am show today especially after what we saw last Friday. This theme, the breaking news theme, the weather theme, and sports are the only ones that KABC continues to use from it's recent past. At least it's not a 100% carbon copy of the flagship and big sister, WABC.
  18. They just showed the closing credits for the 11am news and they were using the 2012 theme briefly but halfway through the credits they changed it to the WABC theme that they are using now. I thought they were going to let the old one finish out like before but I guess that's not how this works.
  19. I was very shocked to see the new news graphics come this quick after a month or so of the weather graphics but I am disappointed that they got rid of their 2012 music package that was made for them only until KTRK started to use the midday theme. The WABC theme does not fit the Los Angeles area because SoCal is known to be more relaxed but it is market number #2 and there is always something urgent going on. I don’t know if the early morning opening theme is going to stay the same or not so we will see.
  20. I’ve noticed lately that KTLA has been using a new font when they show current/future temperatures. It’s a possibility that they may be testing for a new graphics package in the near future but I don’t want to speculate too much.
