Weeters 1916
Under Nexstar’s ownership the station will realize additional retransmission revenues as well as synergistic operating improvements, and on a pro-forma basis the acquisition is both immediately accretive to results and de-leveraging on a debt-to-cash-flow basis. WXmanTim 88
Christ on a cracker. Anyone want to place odds on how quick the ABC affilliation will migrate *back* to WTVW? effseesee 101
Christ on a cracker. Anyone want to place odds on how quick the ABC affilliation will migrate *back* to WTVW? How about zero. You don't go out and pay $18 million to buy a station just so you can move the affiliation to the station you are selling to your bastard stepchild. Besides, the ABC affiliation for WEHT runs through the end of 2013. I'm sure Nexstar would love to get the CBS affiliation for WTVW from WEVV, but that's in place until 2015. CDubya87 0
Question...how does a station "realize" anything? That's like noting that the tree in my front lawn will realize lightning is dangerous next time rain comes. Samantha 2895
Question...how does a station "realize" anything? That's like noting that the tree in my front lawn will realize lightning is dangerous next time rain comes. Companies often "realize" (make real or accomplish) profit targets/gains/etc. Different context. nickp 337
What will happen to the station and will those working there still have a job? T.L. Hughes 890
Evansville Courier & Press columnist Jacob Newkirk reported on his blog information on what Nexstar's sale to Mission Broadcasting in exchange for WEHT means for WTVW's newscasts; it looks like there could be cutbacks to some of the newscasts, a stipulation of the sale suggests that WTVW can air no more than 15% of its programming as news. While news on WTVW is not going away, this is not exactly the best news for a market with only three news operations, only two of which are on network-affiliate stations. http://jakesdtvblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/what-does-news-25-sale-mean-for-you.html Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11375-nexstars-buying-again-wtvw-to-mission-for-weht/#findComment-67780 Share on other sites
WXmanTim 88
Everybody looked surprised: Nexstar merging WEHT/WTVW newsrooms. And making the WEHT-ers re-apply for the jobs, to boot. T.L. Hughes 890
Sorry for bumping the thread, but there are further developments in Nexstar's purchase of WEHT. The Evansville Courier & Press reported Monday that Nexstar has layed off 45 staffers from the ABC affiliate in the station's sale to the company. Here's some of the WEHT staffers that are confirmed to be layed off, effective November 30: * All WEHT department heads will be gone; including general manager Doug Padgett, station manager/general sales manager Mike Riley and news director Mark Glover. * At least four on-air staffers have been let go, including News 25 Daybreak co-anchor Whitney Ray, general assignment reporter Nick LaGrange, sports director Mark McVicar (who also hosts sports wrap-up program After Further Review with Sean Clark-Weis) and sports reporters Aaron Hancock and Sean Clark-Weis. * Several behind the scenes staff members are also being layed off, including photographers (such as Derek Mullins), directors, producers (such as 4 p.m. producer Rachel Powers, and 6 and 10 p.m. producer Jason Pumo) and editors. Those that Nexstar has confirmed will stay with WEHT are: * News 25 Daybreak anchor Jordan Vandenberge, weeknight anchors Shelley Kirk and Brad Byrd, and weekend evening anchor/weeknight reporter David Shepherd * Chief meteorologist Wayne Hart and weekend evening meteorologist David Heckard (the latter of whom began filling in on News 25 Daybreak, as of Monday morning) * Weekend sports anchor Randall Parmley * Video journalist Blaine Fentress * News producer Jenny Hunt Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11375-nexstars-buying-again-wtvw-to-mission-for-weht/#findComment-69564 Share on other sites
WXmanTim 88
The Courier&Press reports (mainly through JakesDTVBlog) staff changes as part of the overhaul of the two Nexstar-controlled stations in Evansville, WEHT and WTVW. Highlights: - "Local 7" evening anchors, 30+-year vet Randy Moore and Julie Dolan and WTVW chief Ron Rhodes will shift to mornings on WEHT, left unclear is the fate of WTVW's morning show - WTVW apparently dropping 6:00pm half-hour from early newscast (or perhaps a simulcast with WEHT) - Shelley Kirk solos at 4pm, paired with Brad Byrd at 5, 6 and 10 - Brad Byrd solos at 6:30 and 9pm on WTVW (unclear whether the 9pm will continue as a full hour) - Rumors afoot that the combined operations willl adopt the "Eyewitness News" branding dropped by WTVW more than 15 years ago when the station affiliated with Fox. - New set (finally) being constructed for the combined operations at WEHT's Henderson facility. A temporary set in WEHT's newsroom will be go on air Dec. 1 My take: Crappy way to treat two market vets. One gets, more or less, demoted to mornings. The other doubles his work-load to make up for it. But, that's Nexstar. If I recall, they pulled something similar when they purchased WCIA in Champaign a decade ago. The aim: piss the (highly paid) vets off so they'll leave/retire and replace them with cheaper talent. Marvin Dillweed 74
Along with anchor shuffles, branding will indeed become "Eyewitness News" for the newscasts. WEHT becomes "WEHT Local", dropping any "25" reference.
