WMAQ-CSN merger gets the green light

The long anticipated merger of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago and WMAQ-NBC 5 is expected to be announced later today. The Channel 5 sports team has had two major blows in the last year, the exit of Paula Faris to ABC News and the untimely death of Darryl Hawks...longtime part-timer Mike Adamle was promoted to full-time status in their absences. Two CSN anchors are expected to begin appearing on NBC 5 soon...Sarah Kustok will anchor sportscasts on Friday nights, while Pat Boyle will take the reigns of Sports Sunday.

The article does not mention what is to become of Adamle, Peggy Kusinski and contributor Laurence Holmes, but the latter will probably depart 'MAQ and continue his work on WSCR "670 The Score". Mike and Peggy will most likely continue in their current roles of anchoring (M,Tu,W,Th & Sat) and reporting, respectively.

The station is now denying an official "merger", but calling it nothing more than a talent sharing operation. Laurence Holmes and Eric Collins will continue in their contributing/fill-in roles.
