T.L. Hughes 753 Posted May 18, 2012 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Clearly someone at WLS-TV's graphics department doesn't like Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest). During the ABC station's 5 p.m. newscast on May 14, a lower-third graphic appeared under the Los Angeles Lakers small forward's name during a sound byte that was run within the station's sports segment, with a caption reading "Metta World Peace: Lakers Idiot". Obviously, Metta/Ron is still catching flak (and rightfully so) over his recent elbow check to the Oklahoma City Thunder's James Harden, that resulted in a concussion for the Thunder shooting guard, among his other incidents/lapses in judgement and anger management over the years. 24994J 5276 Posted May 18, 2012 Share Posted May 18, 2012 The WLS sports department is no stranger to scrutiny...sports director Mark Giangreco desribed the 2004 Pacers/Pistons benchclearing brawl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu5bprqdUgY) as "a typical night in Detroit", accompanied by black and white video of a city on fire...it should be noted that a certain Mr. World Peace played a huge role in that incident, too. Should they have labeled him an idiot? Probably not. Is he an idiot? Absolutely. I don't think anything more than a slap on the wrist is necessary.
