CLETVFan 367
The "Deathstar" has it sights set on WIVB in Buffalo.....their target? GM Rene LaSpina, according to FTVLive.... And this wouldn't be the first time Nexstar has sent her packing. She was the GM at the helm of WPTY in Memphis that hit rock bottom under her reign. The sale to Nexstar resulted in the relocation and relaunch as WATN Local 24. While her time in Buffalo is debatable, she was responsible for a lot of layoffs and cost-cutting of the on-air talent during her time there driving morale into the toilet as Scripps was picking up the pieces over at WKBW... And as long as this video is still on YouTube....here's how bad it was at WPTY back in the day.... UPDATE: Dominic Mancuso, former WOIO/WUAB GM has been named as the GM of WIVB... http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/101659/mancuso-heads-buffalo-pair-for-nexstar Should viewers get ready for Buffalo 24 News? scrabbleship 429
Rene LaSpina is a reverse Queen Midas. Semi-back on topic but the wrath she unleashed trying to make WTEN into WHDH Lite hurt them for years until roughly the Young/MG merger. CircleSeven 1955
FTVLive mentioned earlier this week that KOIN 6 in Portland could be doing away with its weekend morning newscasts. Not too sure if this is going to stick, but a good chunk of the legacy Nexstar outlets don't do them. And if it does stick, could this happen to the other MG stations? Oh and while we're at it, nearly one month after the MG deal ended, I'm surprised that Nexstar hasn't grounded any BIRDS at the MG stations yet. You know what I'm talking about. Might as well appoint a new GM there. They already replaced eleven GMs since the MG deal ended. CircleSeven 1955
A mashup of typical Nexstar with a cheap knockoff of the KLAS anchor/weather desks. No. The KLAS/WTVF desk here is legit. No knockoff about it. It's the mashup in between the two (you mentioned) is what's typical for Nexstar. CircleSeven 1955
Okay. So remember the Gray/Hoak deal from November 2013, and Gray spun-off the Hoak outlets in Panama City & Grand Junction to Nexstar? The Grand Junction one included a pre-1996 LMA with now Parker Broadcasting owned KFQX, which was supposed to be sold to Mission. Because of Wheeler's "JSA Guidance" scrutinizing station sharing deals, it was never greenlighted under his leadership. But Parker didn't dismissed the application. They just let it sit. Fast forward to three years later (now under Pai), it has now been greenlighted as of Monday (2/27). Parker can finally close its books. EDIT: Cunningham Broadcasting has made similar deals (around that same timeframe) in Reno (KRNV/KENV) & Portand (WPFO), which is still sitting. Could those could finally see the greenlight too? scrabbleship 429
You know, its a bit short-sighted they couldn't cash in one of their Little Rock signals in for cash. It's not like they need four of them when you could probably move KARZ or KASN's programming to 16.2 just fine. Newport would've done fine by itself having sold Little Rock to Sinclair and Mobile to Nexstar. The outcomes of both now after the Sinclair/Allbritton and Nexstar/MG deals would've been...interesting. tyrannical bastard 3942
Mission could still technically cash out their 2 stations or any other of their sidecars with Nexstar. It only said Nexstar was not cashing out their spectrum. If Mission is the licensee, that's their spectrum. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/33/#findComment-168389 Share on other sites
Greggo 354
Question: Nexstar by and large doesn't subscribe to Nielsen. Anyone know if they've told the Media General stations to stop subscribing? If so, sweeps numbers in a growing number of markets are gonna be jacked.
