rkolsen 1684
I didn't pay much attention to the this news conference but did see the highlights that the three hours the AP carried globally before cutting out to feed more breaking news packages. One thing I notices is that new television set design in Europe and China seem to be more sterile compared to the American design aesthetic of different tones of woods and metals and fabrics used here. My case in point look at this studio that RT is using - it is almost exclusively white with a giant monitor wall in the background that would make Sheppard Smith Jealous. I must say if a company here were to use this same minimalist principle on a domestic news set I think I would like great. Weeters 1916
Another Russian news operation used a massive video wall like that one in their newsroom. You can see it at the end of this promo, which is pretty much my most favorite news promo ever: That's a pretty amazing set for something meant to be temporary (given it's Putin's -annual- Q&A). Channel One, who originated the event, is 3/4 owned by the government though, so I suppose it's "only the best" for ol' Vladimir. rkolsen 1684
That is some news promo. Maybe the set is designed to be repurposed and the video wall is used for whatever is normally placed in that studio. Then again it's not necessarily surprising the lengths (profitable) companies like NBC go through building sets for special events like: -the two studios that's built anew for each Olympics, which probably cost upwards of $10+ million in materials, equipment and labor for each games. (Yet they still insist that the Today show use their set that comes in a shipping container that's referred to as JAWS meaning Just Add Water Studio for cooling since the Sydney Olympics) -their taking over most of Rockefeller Plaza and renaming it Democracy Plaza for the elections with three outdoor studios (which have been reused for Education Nation for OB outside of the NY public library) -For the main education nation event NBC in the past tented off the entire ice rink where it was about 3 stories tall inside for the main Education Nation Event. https://www.flickr.com/photos/educationnation/6207335791/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/educationnation/6207335793/ ABC converted the second floor of their Time Square Studios for election coverage complete with a projected floor you couldn't stand on ( You know the broadcast where Diane Sawyer allegedly appeared drunk on). Then the BBC built this set for Election Night 2010 back when they were still broadcasting from TV Centre Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13531-rt-studio-used-in-vladimir-putins-annual-four-hour-qa-session/#findComment-103607 Share on other sites
