WBTV building new set?

Their main duratrans, along with a couple of the side panels, have been moved to a temporary location while (presumably) their main studio is being updated. (Current set has been in use since around 2009)

This, of course, comes on the heels of the new Raycom standardized graphics package/music provider switch.

I got a feeling that since WBTV is "WOIO South" that they will get a set more worthy of a Charlotte TV station. I doubt it will be similar to WOIO due to WCNC already having a similar look, but my guess is that WBTV will no doubt get WECT's new graphics.

Left over of the Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial days

The WECT graphics are impressive certainly for a Raycom station.

I wonder if these are the first graphics since they moved the graphic hub to Charlotte

WBTV had the most left over from the J/P-Lincoln days. WWBT has a modified version of the previous Raycom package (replacing purple for the gold elements), while all that remains of WCSC is a form of their logo, as they've been standardized in all other aspects.

I'm really hoping WWBT will get a new set out of all this. I've never liked their set... I think it's remained pretty unchanged since it came out in 2005 or 2006.

I love the new WECT graphics and Inergy, but my only gripe is the logo is HUGE in the opening. Hopefully WBTV's will be toned down a bit.

I believe the set was refreshed in 2012, and the First Warning Weather center had a makeover (see WWBT's FB cover photo from 2012 at link below). I remember WWBT and sister station WUPV used the "FOX News at Ten"/"FOX Richmond Morning News" set* - which is in the same building - for their newscasts when that happened.

*for those who don't know, WWBT produced the "Fox News at Ten" and "Fox Richmond Morning News" for WRLH and produced the 6:30 pm newscast for sister station WUPV.

Also, can't wait to check out the new set for WBTV News 3.

I heard a while back that the set was originally supposed to debut in July, but construction was pushed back. There were renders posted online a couple months ago, but then they were removed. However, if they are building the set seen in the renders it should look really nice. The render had a video wall, and a desk which looked like the anchors would sit down.

You can faintly tell on that computer monitor but it looks like they'll be using the graphics package that's been rolling out to stations like WECT and WXIX.

I hope that the set doesn't look like the other Raycom sets that they did in the past year (i.e. WCSC, WOIO or WXIX). Those sets looked really bland and generic. I holding out hope since Charlotte is like one of their flagship but WOIO set doesn't give me much hope.

The set looks amazing. This is what I am talking about; easily the best set in Charlotte. This seem like what HLN was trying to accomplish but fail miserably. If I would have rate them it will be:

1. WBTV

2. WCNC

3. WSOC

4. WJZY

5. WCCB

At least with this set, the anchors can sit down.

With the previous set, the anchors were able to sit down too. The morning anchors are the only ones that actually sit down because they are there for 3 hours. The evening anchors stand up to read the news

Really impressive set, especially for an FX job. They seem to be stepping their game up lately, not putting out the same cookie cutter sets that they've been known for in the past.

Hopefully that means Raycom is allowing their stations to have more leeway in terms of set design options instead of having just one to use across the board (like it was when they upgraded the entire group to HD). If only Sinclair was like that, then they would let WJLA have something spectacular designed by Devlin (along the lines of WAGA, KSAZ, or KMGH) instead of what most of their stations had been receiving (which is not a knock at DDG itself, which has put out impressive work as of late).

Love WBTV's set! I'm glad somebody getting out of their box and not giving this station those cookie-cutter sets. I was getting tired of Devlin cookie-cutter approach for Scripps & Sinclair stations.(Although I do like WAGA's) This set is very much top notch, and I like the backdrop of the city skyline and the weather center. Congrats, WBTV!
