I happen to love Fios, but their news offering remains not much of an improvement, especially when compared to News 12. Feels like I am watching a College TV station.

Anyway, the goofs tonight were ridiculous!

First he says how the LIRR is operating "on or close" when the sign says otherwise. And this is the Syosset station, not Hempstead. They remain one of the most amateuristic news operations in this area. I really wish Verizon would invest more in their news product, produce their own channel instead of contracting with RNN. or just make a deal with cable to carry News 12.

I wouldn't mind tacking on $5-$10 to my Fios bill to have it.

Oh my.. the interview of the Fios salesman is just blatant advertising :|

I've seen worse, though (WSVI in the virgin islands...... eew)

In my area, we have Comcast/NBC owned NECN, it used to be good years ago (especially when Hearst had ownership), but over the last few years, they have mostly been covering stories within the Boston area, completely ignoring the fact "New England" is more than Boston.

Wow, they really went all out finding that VERIZON FIOS SALESMAN to interview about the cold!

Is this a 24 hour operation? What times does it air?

It is a 24 hour operation produced by RNN, though there is no news overnight, usually specials or ads. Though they often run sports and specialty shows other than news. None of the newscasts are live, except for the evening (6pm) and the live show is for all Fios territories in the NYC Metro, so you will have NJ, Hudson Valley news along with LI. The other segments are pre-recorded for each region (Hudson Valley, NJ, LI). All newscasts from what I believe are only 30 mins each, unlike News 12 which has one hour newscasts for the evening.

News 12 is live all evenings and mornings on weekdays and is produced locally here on LI from Woodbury.

Verizon should have had a similar setup to Cable but decided to cut costs by doing it this way, and the result is an inferior news product,

I'd rather watch WLNY News at 9pm...than Fios 1.

You can see how few people actually watch Fios 1 just by looking at their Facebook pages, there is practically no activity on their posts, compared to 100s of comments per story on News 12's.

Curious as to the actual viewership #'s but I would bet News 12 has at least 20 times the audience Fios 1 has.

Interesting. Do people actually watch their cable co's news anyway? Here in Eastern PA, we have small companies, Service Electric, RCN, and Blue Ridge Communications. Some parts have Comcast, but not many. I had Blue Ridge previously at my old house and they had live news at 5, 5:30, and 10 & 10:30 I believe. But I could probably count on one hand the number of times I ever watched it.

I recently started following their Facebook page and it does seem to have gotten better since I last saw it. I know Service Electric has news but I don't know anything else about it, and I have no clue about RCN.

I just know that on my list of newscasts, cable co news would be at the very, very bottom. Haha.
