ThatSowislander 52
http://www.duanedudek.com/blog/2015/03/24/wdjt-tv-news-director-garner-reportedly-fired/ Didn't if this will warrant a general Weigel thread in the corporate group sub-forum, WDJT ND Genie Garner is finally out almost 3 years. This comes over a year after two reporters filed lawsuits against WDJT. Hopefully Weigel will find a ND that can actually stabilize CBS 58 and will not become a liability. Weigel needs to cleanup the mess down at their sister stations in South Bend next. Weeters 1916
I question how much this has to do with the lawsuits. And it certainly has nothing to do with ratings performance... Wonder what we don't know about this story. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14312-wdjt-fires-news-director/#findComment-125879 Share on other sites
ToriElectra 292
Maybe she was using the news vans to smuggle moonshine, or alcoholic cheese, or something else illegal. Glimmer 282
The timing is definitely interesting granted the proximity to the debuts of their big new programs (Sunday Morning and the 4pm newscast). But yes, there have been rumors of dysfunction at the station under Garner's run (even before the lawsuits). Guest
Two discrimination suits, a revolving door of talent, reporters and producers... the writing was on the wall. This is a great move for them, but sadly morale won't improve since they plan on launching these new newscasts without adding more people. They've got a new GM (which they desperately needed). Fingers crossed he does the right thing and doesn't cheap out on some first time manager from Nebraska or something. A true leader could really do great things with that station. Someone mentioned South Bend earlier. It was my understanding that they only did minimal investments in that station in hopes they could spin it off. Years ago they tried to sell their South Bend properties but the FCC sat on the deal too long and the buyer walked away from the deal. TheRob 938
Sometimes it's just as simple as a disagreement in vision between the general manager and the news director (the GM will always win). If the GM is new, sometimes the GM will want his or her own guy, kind of like a new football GM wants a new coach and a new QB, instead of the inherited furniture.
