Andy B 0 Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Kinda random, but I'd thought I'll share my caps with you all.. They are in full HD quality, hasn't been JPEG compressed. Super and OTS (Over the Shoulder) Full Screens Misc... I'll try and get the openers as well, maybe even video.
Andy B 0 Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Apparently they aren't broadcasting in high quality HD. Bitrate wise or format wise? Cos the bitrate when I checked was 14-17mbps.

Judging by the high quality of your images, I'd be pretty sure that they are broadcasting in 1080i, the highest definition available for TV.
semistatic 0 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 They switch back from 1080i and 720i - when they do 720i - they put blue bars down both sides that say "HD"

Never heard of that before neither did I know they downscale back and forth, I always assumed they upscaled. another cap.. Notice you can see the roughness of the image in the OTS
A3N 1002 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 That set bares a striking resemblence to KCBS' HD set, with a few modifications of course.
who?cares 255 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 i like it better than KCBS's because it's not as dark.
clind 2 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I guess it's because I live in a smaller market, who knows, but HD looks amazing in respect to even these images, but isn't 1080p the best available? Anyway, the studio looks pretty good.
Wisco TV Watcher 11 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 There is no such thing as 1080p or 720i. 1080i has 1,080 lines of resolution and the picture is interlaced, which means that half of the lines are updated first, and then the other half are afterwards. NBC and CBS use 1080i. 720p has 720 lines of resolution and uses progressive scan, which means that the lines are updated one-by-one. ABC and FOX use 720p. As far as what is better, there isn't one that is clearly better than the other, but if I had to choose, I would go with 1080i. I just wanted to clear that up.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p *waits for wiki haters to bitch and moan*
clind 2 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p *waits for wiki haters to bitch and moan* You just beat me to that, but also, here's an LCD TV that features 1080p. The format does exist, but according to Wiki, and the times I've heard of HD broadcasts, 1080i is the currently the highest one being broadcast in most areas.
Andy B 0 Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 One thing that annoys me with their pillarboxing, is sometimes they have a 16:9 video and they squash it to 4:3 and then pillarbox it when obviously it could be upscaled but still maintaining the 16:9 aspect ratio.
milklikesubstance 11 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Yeah, so far, 1080p is only used with video game consoles like the PS3.
caliwxdude 254 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Yeah, so far, 1080p is only used with video game consoles like the PS3. Don't forget about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Discs, some of which also have a native resolution of 1080p.
