susquvalleywgal 520 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 http://www.wpxi.com/slideshow/news/13657797/detail.html Looks nice. Take a look and discuss. -- matt
TheMightyGringoChannel 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Those look like some sweet digs. Looks kind of like 'PXI is designing their newsroom in a style similar to the way WCPO, KTUL, and WHDH have their's laid out. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project later this year.

I am looking forward to them losing the butchered graphics and all one cut of Flagship.
Oliverolang 41 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I like it! The exterior has a nice design to it. It does actually. I really like the logo located at the top of the tower. WDSU's studios also have a tower with the logo on it.
who?cares 255 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 they need a new website, that one is ugly. But the buliding is very nice ;D
newsie 11 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 they need a new website, that one is ugly. But the buliding is very nice ;D That's just the standard Cox site. Cox put some money into the new building but looks nice.
instacam70 0 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I thought I was looking at a new school being built. The exterior looks just like a new suburban middle school.
NewzPimpin 1 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Is it just me, or does anyone else get the impression that the new studio and set will look like Sunbeam's "Newsplex"? That circular desk is what did it for me...
newsie 11 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I thought I was looking at a new school being built. The exterior looks just like a new suburban middle school. It does look like a school somewhat.
blueflag 0 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I thought I was looking at a new school being built. The exterior looks just like a new suburban middle school. It does look like a school somewhat. Yeah, it kind of does. Wow, where did you guys go to school? My high school was a big grey-and-brick block. Just ask Tyler.
jestbiteme 13 Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 but here is some good news they will be moving in sept during there annual telethon. then i will hopefully get a tour! Jordan their. there? they're.
takingaction4you 4 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Looks like WPXI is delaying the move so they can get everything done correctly. Maybe with the move they'll return to the pre-clown graphics?? One can only hope... : Channel 11 was expected to move into its new Summer Hill facility around Labor Day, but general manager Ray Carter said the on-air premiere of the new station and new set will be delayed until the 6 p.m. news on Sept. 23 to allow more time to get everything in working order. "We just want to get it right and not rush it," he said. By holding off a few weeks, WPXI also avoids jockeying for viewer attention with WTAE, which plans to debut a new set of its own on Sept. 4. -Rob Owen, Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Ben4 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 They definitely need new graphics. I'm sorry, but their current ones SUCK. I'd also like to see better audio, and a changeover from WSI to Baron for their radar. They're going to have a tough time competing with WTAE... because WTAE's new set is looking AWESOME.
takingaction4you 4 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 They're going to have a tough time competing with WTAE... because WTAE's new set is looking AWESOME. But it's not just all about the set and graphics, it's the approach and actual coverage, as well. WPXI looks tabloid-esque (very poorly played out, mind you) but that could be a factor in their ratings, or lack thereof. I'm anxious to see WPXI's new graphics for when they go HD; we can only hope they don't decide to mess them up after a week.
Sam Horn 78 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Christian, don't disappoint these people who think the graphics and set make the newscast. It's obvious they'll never learn that there's more to a newscast than a pretty set and graphics. Remember not so long ago our LPSG liaison mentioned that KCBS must be "unwatchable" based on the reaction to their graphics? Sadly the "graphics first" crowd are the majority at TVNT. Shame. You almost wonder if they actually watch the newscast.....

You almost wonder if they actually watch the newscast..... I can assure you that I don't believe the entire newscast is about graphics and the set. However, I will say this... if you have ugly graphics, and horrible audio quality... you're not going to get the viewers you want. And in my opinion, that is WPXI's problem.
Ntropolis 598 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Christian Heilman told me that WPXI premieres HD news on October 6th.
jestbiteme 13 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Advantage: Heilman. A KDKA-TV Advantage you'll only see here!

susquvalleywgal 520 Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 All I have to say is WTAE watch out. Very nice design so far. I like the graphics on those huge monitors. -- Matt
Ben4 0 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 First broadcast from the new studio is tonight at 6PM. Here is a page with a sweet video of a tour of the building: http://www.wpxi.com/news/14268176/detail.html Just click the "Behind the scenes of WPXI's new buildng" video. It appears they may be switching back to Baron Services for radar... the shot in that video of the new weather center shows a meteorologist at a dual screen set up... and it looks like it could be the FasTrac HD system...
