semistatic 0
That's weird...I had thought Comcast completed the upgrades of the 550 MHz systems in the Bay Area. I'm in San Jose, and I enjoy that much larger high definition lineup. (But hey, at least you get more than what most of the Central Valley systems get.) In fact, they just added KICU-DT on 706 two weeks ago because of the HD Raider preseason game replays. Too bad they didn't feel that same sense of urgency when it comes to adding NFL Network HD... That's why I ordered DirecTV - they were having a big special on the NFL "Superfan" package. Hopefully my "southern sky view" is unobstructed enough or the guy'll be climbing up on my roof Plus, they have better HD channels anyway I did call Comcast, but the person I talked to didn't know anything about upcoming upgrades, etc. Also couldn't tell me why my On Demand doesn't work. They're frustrating! Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1690-local-news-stations-in-hd/page/2/#findComment-18090 Share on other sites
sctvhound 27
WTXL is also in high definition. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1690-local-news-stations-in-hd/page/2/#findComment-18106 Share on other sites
caliwxdude 254
Add WSPA in Spartanburg to the list. They became the second Media-General station to transition to high definition news and adopt WFLA's Giant Octopus HD graphics package on Monday. Thanks for the tip - that's an interesting choice - I might've suspected one of the former O&Os to be next.... especially WJAR Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1690-local-news-stations-in-hd/page/2/#findComment-19847 Share on other sites

newsman123 114
i would think media general would start with the big market stations..not smaller markets like wjar. I would think Raleigh, Columbus, Birmingham would be next. I would think Raleigh, Columbus, Birmingham would be next. Providence isn't really small-market (#52) - and WJAR is really the dominant station in that market, which is why I mentioned them. (Just another "first" for them) WCMH is playing catch-up with WBNS, and WNCN is, well, ... Where is WVTM is in the Birmingham ratings race? My rankings guess would be WBRC, WVTM, ABC 33/40, WIAT - so this might be a good place to be the first in HD. NewsMan 0
WSLS has done a really good job despite competing with WDBJ & WSET. WJAR is 1st but I know WPRI is catching up. WCMH does a good job against WBNS, and WSYX well... its had better days. Well WNCN tries and does better than 28 when they were NBC but WRAL is still the 500 hundred pound gorrella and WTVD is quickly catching up. In Biringham here's kinda what the order is WBRC, ABC 33/40, WIAT, WVTM. WBRC still does well, ABC 33/40 also does very well, while WIAT does very well now (try to say that 10 years ago WVTM has been doing horribly. I'm not sure who will go HD next but WSPA has done well in ratings so that's why they took the plunge Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1690-local-news-stations-in-hd/page/2/#findComment-19874 Share on other sites
Ntropolis 596
You can't really say that the highest-rated stations will launch HD news first... it can be used as an attempt to boost ratings. TVKidd8 0
WTXL is also in high definition. Technically, yes... ...but their graphics are basically upconverted SD gfx, and the news set looks horrible. Their audio is also glitchy and out-of-whack half the time. One could make the argument.... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/1690-local-news-stations-in-hd/page/2/#findComment-19947 Share on other sites
