Tyler 151 Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 I was just watching a video on WPXI.com which has a new big story FSG and new L3s. I watched WPXI on tv this morning but they are using the older graphics still. Could this just be an online look? Or maybe they’re testing new graphics online first? If these are going to be new on-air, they look better than the black/gold KDKA graphics. https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/activists-say-actions-protesters-captured-viral-videos-does-not-represent-justice-movement/6T6FEZFZUVGKLDJ5ZV5Y6JLI24/
jbnews 344 Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 This looks very similar to what other Cox stations have been rolling out on their 11pm shows. I wouldn't be surprised to see this on TV soon.
Tyler 151 Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 Why is Cox running special graphics just for their 11pm newscasts?
JohnnyNews 119 Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 Kiro in Seattle had new stuff on the 11pm show as well. I think Cox is getting ready to have a new group wide graphics rollout.
Tyler 151 Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 I watched last night. They’ve dropped the long standing 11@11 branding for “WPXI TONIGHT.” They are using new music and a lot of stand up shots instead of sitting at the desk. The weather graphics haven’t changed and it looks pretty dumb using two sets of graphics in one newscast.
qunewsguy 378 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 The "tonight" branding is group wide for 11pm newscasts and has been running since at least March. All the stations have variants of the same graphics utilizing each station's usual font. If those graphics were rolling out to earlier shows they would have by now.

Not all of the COX stations have been rebranded to (station here) TONIGHT. Also as if 11pm 09/10/2020 WPXI is back to their main graphics on the 11pm. I was talking to the WPXI Art director and he said “WPXI was just “testing them” because the weather graphics are getting updated to go with our new graphics”

Tyler 151 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 I hope if they are switching the weather graphics they use the graphics during all newscasts. To me, only using graphics during one half hour newscast seems silly.

Like the WSB 2 11pm graphics go with they’re Weather graphics and look at KIRO they’re using 2 different graphics packages everyday now the have newer weather graphics on the 11pm show.
newscopter7 233 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 A return to Nightbeat > WPXI Tonight
NEOMatrix 1307 Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Honestly, I like KIRO’s Tonight attempt. Looks clean and simple without being drab. WPXI? Their attempt was good too and yes, the current graphics have serviced WPXI long enough.
