Gray Television's Savannah Ga station WTOC is doing their newscast from their newsroom while they undergo a set remodel. What kind of studio sets are Gray giving their stations these days?

A lot of Gray's recent projects were done by FX Design Group.

A lot of the Raycom stations need new sets.

WFIE's still running on the base of what they got in 2009. They've updated duratrans once or twice and have added some flat screens on wheels to shake things up, but they could use a total revamp. It's a shame they couldn't move to a bigger building with more space.

Many of them are about a decade old or longer, and are older FX-group sets.

Some have been refreshed (like WDAM with the video array) while others remain largely unchanged (like WLOX with the original duratrans from the original Raycom HD package).

It seemed like they just got a refresh in 2018! WMBF desperately needs an updated set…it’s almost 13 years since they gotten anything!

Those sets are nothing more than a background on a wall and a desk with some monitors. Definitely cheap enough to do updates across the entire portfolio that Raycom had at that time. Many of these sets have been refreshed and some have not, but these particular sets may fall apart if updated anymore.

It’s hard to believe that it has been ~10 years for these sets!

Which Gray stations have recently received new sets?

Raycom installed nice new sets at flagships WBTV amd WWBT a few years before the sale to Gray. They are nice, modern style with a big background monitor wall and are both very similar. But some of the other stations need upgrading.

Makes me wonder if this is what WLBT will be getting.
