nycnewsjunkie 1441
As of this posting, The Hill (Nexstar’s recently-acquired political website) has a sponsored link on the front page of its website. It is titled “Misunderstood: The Huawei Story,” and links to a page with content sponsored by Huawei, a telecommunications company with close links to the Chinese government. Here is the link: https://sponsored.thehill.com/huaweistory/p/1?utm_source=thehill&utm_medium=featured_tag&utm_campaign=sponsored The page contains a disclaimer that it contains sponsored content from Huawei, and that it’s content is not reflective of The Hill’s views. However, it is not merely an advertisement for Huawei. The page is designed as a sort of investigative special report, complete with “The Hill” branding on the top left. The stories featured contain videos that are sympathetic to Huawei in light of their treatment by the U.S. government. To top it off, there’s also a grammatical error under the “5G and Beyond” section, as it ends a question with a period. Even though the content is labeled as being sponsored, is The Hill/Nexstar so desperate for cash that they need to not only sell ads to Huawei, but run a series of “news” stories with their own branding on the content? The cost in credibility is surely more than whatever profit is being made from this. Note to moderators: I wasn’t sure which topic best fit this subject, so I’ve filed it under the Corporate Chat section, as it pertains to Nexstar. If there is a more appropriate place for it, feel free to move it. TVLurker 198
this is a joke to those who valued their integrity over the cold hard cash. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18923-the-hill-huawei-and-a-question-of-ethics/#findComment-273265 Share on other sites
nycnewsjunkie 1441
Two other notable things: The presenter in each of the videos is former WBFF anchor Jennifer Gladstone, who now works as a freelancer of sorts. The graphics and green screen set background closely resemble that of The Hill's Rising program. With these things in mind, I'm finding it hard to believe that The Hill has nothing to do with the production of these so-called news stories. On a slightly unrelated note, this can't help Nexstar's other ventures, like NewsNation, especially if Nexstar intends to integrate content from The Hill with its other properties. tyrannical bastard 3951
I can't wait for their 5 part series on Mike Lindell, his pillow empire, and how it all came crashing down because of a stolen election! It's an easy grab since the "fair and balanced" networks wont touch him after all the lawsuits have been settled! But, if Nexstar really wanted to prove themselves as a credible news organization, get the voting machine companies on board, and do a behind-the-scenes on how votes are counted... All politics aside, this reeks of desperation and stooping to doing anything to raise a buck. DirtyHarry 727
The Hill, like Politico, the New York Times, The Washington Post and all the rest is just another Company Town news source. Everything they print is slanted in favor of the deep state, the people who run the company town. The Hill to Politico was and is a lot like the Washington Post was and is to the New York Times 20 years ago and today. It was the sane alternative. I emphasize the word "was" because ever since Bezos bought the Post, they have been nuts. All 4 have Trump Derangement Syndrome, but the with The Hill, the phenomenon is more recent. .
