KCCI in Des Moines will debut their new set Monday at 5. I've seen previews and it looks pretty Hearsty. I've heard it will look a lot like KCRA (which I suppose looks like most other new Hearst sets). They won't be going HD, but the set is HD-ready.

Well, that is all good and everything for KCCI ..... but what about my WGAL?!

WGAL is a higher DMA than Des Moines, IA and we still have a 10 year old + set.

Ugh.

(GASP) SOOOOO MUCH BETTER!

are they in the same studio, because that thing is TINY or are they in the bigger one across the hall?

No, they are in the studio across the hall. Makes me wonder what will happen to the old set.

I kind of wish they would have kept the newsroom background though, is the new background static or a projection screen?

I'm not just saying this because I may or may not work for a competing station, but I'm not a huge fan. The main thing is that blue background is static, and I think it comes off as kind of flat on-air. Another thing is, the anchors are getting up and moving around a lot more than they used to and they need to get something figured out about their camera shots when they do that. Overall a huge improvement, and the weather center is great.

Very disappointed! By far out of all the HA updates this has to be the worst! Instead of the blue 8 in the backdrop they should have had the skyline like WTAE and WCVB have in their backdrops. The least they could have had a rear projector back there. They should have just stuck with the newsroom, since 13 ditched their newsroom look.

I agree about the weather center. If memory serves correctly it was fairly close in the old studio. This one look a little to close for comfort.
