Guest cfif
Or is most of the newer stuff that the companies are spitting out fairly unremarkable? To me anyway....maybe with the exception of Tower V3 and Enforcer NG2, I don't see anything special about the newest packages. ctmajka 112
I think they're just coming out with packages to get satations attentions like: "HEY! YooHoo! WCCO!!! We have a new Package..." "YEAH! It's Chicagos Very Own!" "oh..." "nothing special?" "Well, look at our other ones while you're here" "*gasp*" "what do we have here?" "Is...is that NewsTime?" "It's incedibly recognizable & versital...no?" "okay, how about...oooh! what's this?" "It's...The Unexpected!!" "SOO UNDERUSED! yet so memorable..." "no?...." "well than screw off..." ...That's just my opinion... make something new to attract customers... WHERE'S THE LOVE! -Chris Majka ;D Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2745-is-it-me/#findComment-24579 Share on other sites
lazynetjunkie 34
The actual TV stations commissioning new packages are to blame too. Many stations don't really work with the composer/company on new music they're commissioning like they used to. They just take whatever the news music composer/company gives them and use it. There was a time when many more stations used to throw garbage music back at the composer/company (reject music) and have them rework it or make something new until it's good music done right just like what WLS is currently doing for their new update of "News Series 2000 Plus". You won't be hearing all that "New Generation" crap on WLS. Sure it takes longer, but the station will be getting a better music product at the end. Heck, WLS rejected the first couple versions of "News Series 2000" when they first commissioned the package back in 1983 and had Frank Gari reorchestrate it until it was right. Eventhough a station is paying the news music composer/company to do just about all of the work of creating a news music package for their station, the station should also remember that it's going to be the music representing its product and just because a composer/company says "Here ya go. All done!", doesn't mean it's all done. A bad thing too is some music composers/companies use this to their advantage. Since alot of what you hear now is the same sounding crap which is way too easy to put together at very little or no cost, they can pre-package some garbage disposal music and not release it. Then the moment a station calls up asking for a new package, they slap a name on it, and bingo, there's a new package! Of course, the dummy working at the station says, "This sounds hip and cool" and uses it. The music composer/company is all happy because they just made some money with very little effort. jerseyfla 207
Actually in my personal opinion I think 615's Propulsion and Always Worth Your Time are the best new packages out there. If WTSP could make a turnaround AWYT is the package they should use to start it along with new graphics. 10Viewer 334
The newer packages are much less memorable than the music created in the 1970's and 1980's. Packages like "Hello News" and "Catch 5" were very catchy and memorable. Frank Gari was the king of great music. 615 also made a lot of great packages like "Power News" and "Impact", but the updates just aren't that spectacular. Today's stuff is drivel synth-pop, I guess like a lot of music coming out of Hollywood today.
