bostonmediaguy 124 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Beginning Monday, WWJ/Detroit drops the 'CBS Detroit' branding to become 'WWJ-TV.' In addition, they will begin producing local weather updates during 'The Early Show' and at 11pm, leading into 'Two and a Half Men.' http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080101/ENT10/801010343
lugnuts6 91 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 a two minute weather report anchored by Jim Maddaus on weekedays and Tracy Gary on Weekends WWJ TV eh? cant wait to see the new logo
MikePulse 319 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 ...and eventually a complete news department! [from our keyboards to the Big Guy's ears...]
Blargh 2 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 ...and eventually a complete news department! I doubt it. If they were too cheap to do it before, I doubt they'll do it now.
lugnuts6 91 Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 stranger things have happened before ... like CBS buying WGPR due to ..well ..hehehehehe
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 WWJ is interesting. They are committed to more local coverage even without a news department. Recently they aired a news special on Michigan's ties to China economically and culturally. You can watch it online. It is going to be interesting to see how it works. Also in terms of them starting a news department. I can tell that the station director is not interested in anyway starting a news department. Their slogan for their 11 PM block is "no news is good news". Enough said.
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 New logo now on their website. I'm not impressed by it. Also it has a new slogan, "Driven by Detroit". What do you think?
bostonmediaguy 124 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Here's a page with a better look at the logo: http://wwjtv.com/cbseyedeals Not bad, I suppose. Anything that brings a local brand back is better in my book.
Geoffrey 873 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I think it looks ugly and a few decades too late.

Also in terms of them starting a news department. I can tell that the station director is not interested in anyway starting a news department. Their slogan for their 11 PM block is "no news is good news". Enough said. Their news special is "Michigan Matters" which airs on Saturdays at 11 a.m. I wonder if they could make it a daily program in the way KCET and KOCE does with "L.A. Life and Times" and "Real Orange", respectively. Nevertheless, it’s just a thought.
KKyuubi 0 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I think it looks ugly and a few decades too late. Absolutely terrible. The slogan is bad too. I actually disagree, it's kinda nice, goes good with the whole theme of Detroit. But hey, at least it's not a clone of WBZ's logo!
Blargh 2 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 So you're telling me that ugly mess is better than something like, say, this: I quickly mocked that one up and it easily beats the current WWJ logo.
Jess 1116 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I actually disagree, it's kinda nice, goes good with the whole theme of Detroit. But hey, at least it's not a clone of WBZ's logo! There's a difference. The WBZ logo is nice, easy to read, and works in a lot of situations. This is just a throwback to 1970s station logos. And not the good ones.
