onthesea 292
VOTE FOR SEVEN! A pretty interesting campaign for Seven's election coverage on Saturday, November 24, 2007, led by the Sunrise team of Kochie and Mel, promising that it would be the funniest election broadcast on TV. Actually, Seven finished in 2nd place, while the ABC had the most-watched broadcast that night. This video also includes excerpts of Weekend Sunrise from the early hours of election day. A short promo of Antena 3's relaunched news service in September 1998, when journalist Ernesto Saenz de Buruaga (formerly of TVE) was hired to be the news director (and anchor of the evening program) and introduced several changes, such as new presenters (like Matias Prats and Susanna Griso, who also came from TVE as well) and new graphics and music theme, similar to the one used by TVE's Telediario at the time. onthesea 292
First 2 minutes of the new image of Telemundo, Teledoce's news service relaunched exactly one month ago. The program has a new logo, new music and new set with giant screens; also, it adopted a "conversational" style to report the news stories. A long, boring late night news update from ATC in the early hours of March 6, 1993. A closer of the lunchtime edition of TVE1's Telediario in May 1974. onthesea 292
July 1969: Canal 13 sent its main anchor Mónica Cahen D'Anvers to Cape Canaveral to report on the launch of the Apollo 11. Here's some footage from days before lift-off. Weather forecast and closer of the midday edition of Telemundo in July 2003, anchored by Renee Lafitte and Pablo Rodriguez. That cloud background with the spinning globe at the end is pretty magnetic! BBC's News West late bulletin (during the Nine O'Clock News) from March 1998, with Susan Osman. onthesea 292
A long promo of Telemundo 12 from 1995, featuring former news anchor Neber Araujo (who used to double as news director during most of his run there: 1985-2002). There are many shots of the newsroom and the news team and the technology looked extremely old for the time being (e.g. the screens in the control room or the large microphones at the anchordesk). Neber was so lucky that he used to have a new laptop next to him when he presented the news. The news division was slightly revamped in the same year, airing bizarre promos like these, produced by Impetu (an advertising company). That's when the ABC News/(National) Nine News globe appeared for the first time. There's even a backstage report, explaining how the campaign was produced. Finally, a closer of the program in June 2014, one year before the globe was removed. The set remained unchanged (with some minor exceptions) from 1999 until October 2015. skbl17 188
Two Latin American broadcasters have made changes to their on-air presentation recently. Brazil: This past week, the local newscasts on the SBT owned-and-operated stations (Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Nova Friburgo, Belém, Brasília, Ribeirão Preto and Jaú) relaunched with a new look in line with the one used on SBT Brasil (the main national newscast) and the morning newscast Primeiro Impacto. While the graphics are the exact same, the local newscasts use different music. Here's the intro and headlines for the first edition of SBT Rio Grande (Porto Alegre) with the new look - the graphics (except for the name) and music are the exact same on all the other stations. Note that SBT Rio Grande still uses the 2016 graphics to introduce the sponsorship plugs, at least in this edition: Prior to SBT Brasil, some SBT-owned stations also run evening newscasts, namely the ones in Nova Friburgo, Porto Alegre, and Brasilia (SBT São Paulo gets an "early edition" of SBT Brasil in lieu of a local evening newscast). Here's the intro to the Nova Friburgo version, SBT Cidade; note the different music. While local morning newscasts on SBT-owned stations were a lot more common a few years back, nowadays only the station in Jaú has one. The music is the same as the midday version (the first video in this post). Personally, I prefer the 2016 graphics and music to this, but I have a hunch as to why SBT did it. The network's been on a consolidation streak lately (the various national news programs on SBT all had different looks and graphics until 2016 or so,) so this is may be an attempt to bring the local newscasts completely in line with the national branding. Also, by leaving out any mention or hint of locality in the local intros barring the name (as compared to the map in the 2016 version,) it's easier for the affiliate stations of SBT to adopt the new look as well. Unlike Globo, whose affiliates share the same look and feel as their O&Os, SBT's are a smorgasbord of different looks (this montage is from 2018 - the affiliate stations start at 1:11 in the video): Also unlike Globo and Rede Record, whenever an SBT affiliate wanted to use something similar to the O&O look, they would get a somewhat pared-down version of the O&O package. Note the difference between the "full-featured" version used on the O&Os (except for Ribeirão Preto [SBT Verdade], which used something different) and the bare-bones pared down version (here's the one used by affiliate TV Amazônia in Amapá - the newsroom shot at the end is totally generic, by the way, it's the same on all the affiliates that use this package). Chile: After hinting at the relaunch when they debuted their new multipurpose studio back in January, Mega recently revived the name Meganoticias for their newscasts, putting the Ahora Noticias branding to bed after six years. The music, while different, carries over the signature of the Ahora Noticias theme. Here's the sponsorship plug and intro to the first edition of Meganoticias Prime, the main evening newscast on Mega: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/284-international-video-thread/page/32/#findComment-230160 Share on other sites

onthesea 292
September 1st, 1969: the very first edition of Rede Globo's Jornal Nacional went to the air. Here's an excerpt of its 10th anniversary in 1979, with Cid Moreira anchoring. He presented the program for 27 years (1969 to 1996). Piero Badaloni anchors the main evening edition of Rai 1's Telegiornale in April 1992. For a short while, it wasn't called TG1. A closer of TF1's Sunday evening news with Claire Chazal in 1997. A full edition of Telefe's late night newscast from March 2005, with Rodolfo Barili and Cristina Perez. The closer is at the 21:12 mark (includes a segment called Retratos, with snapshots of the day's most important stories; it was the staple of the program for 14 years) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/284-international-video-thread/page/32/#findComment-231725 Share on other sites

onthesea 292
Intro of ABC's 7am newscast First Edition from May 1995, with Tony Eastley. Coverage of the Gulf War in 1991, as seen on a bulletin from SODRE TV (channel 5) in Montevideo, Uruguay. Anchors Maria de los Angeles Fernandez and Edgar Soto read copy after copy to illustrate viewers about the war. Includes excerpts from ECO and CNN. Final segment of RTP1's Telejornal in March 2008 with José Alberto Carvalho, who also reads the forecast for the next day. The weather segment was removed from the program many years ago. Sister cable channel RTP3 airs weather bulletins during news programs, but not as a separate program, like in Spain or other European countries. The "techno" theme of the credits was composed by Elvis Veiguinha. Mark White and John Duncanson present Grampian TV's North Tonight program in 1997. onthesea 292
Headlines and intro of the revamped Jornal da Record, with a new set, graphics and theme. Anchors Adriana Araujo and Celso Freitas now present the program from a quite small set, leaving the newsroom studio behind after being there for more than a decade. The color scheme is the same as its main competitor (Rede Globo's Jornal Nacional) And talking about Jornal Nacional... here's how they celebrate its 50th anniversary: introducing some segments from digitally-recreated old sets. (BONUS) A 1-minute promo, where the people can't take their eyes off the TV set when they're watching the news. Finally, a full edition of ARD's Tagesschau on April 30, 1994, read by Werner Veigel. onthesea 292
A small montage of Subrayado in 1985 with Omar Defeo as main anchor. Defeo, a well-respected journalist, created the program in 1971 and presented it from its inception until 1989, when he handed his anchoring duties to Blanca Rodriguez and Jorge Traverso. The nightly edition of Subrayado (weeknights at 7:30pm) was the only chance for viewers to catch up with the latest news from Uruguay and the world. Canal 10 was reluctant to add more newscasts: because of that, it offered 7-minute summaries at 12.30pm and at 11.30pm on weekdays (and short updates on weekends) to compensate the lack of full editions. Here's one summary from November 1994. Finally, a full edition of the main evening program (7pm) in early July 2019, days after the premiere of a new look. onthesea 292
A closer of Telenoche from December 30th, 1999, with the husband-and-wife team of Monica Cahen D'Anvers and Cesar Mascetti. The jib shot at the end is really interesting: it shows that the studio is quite small, but there's enough room for two anchordesks, an interview set and even a Christmas tree! I also like the idea of placing a screen counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds left until the new millennium. onthesea 292
A compilation of news openers from all the ITV franchises in the south east of England (Southern, TVS and Meridian), beginning in the late 1970s and concluding in 2004, when all regions across the UK (except for Northern Ireland and Scotland) got an unified branding for their news programs. You can listen to a clean cut of the relaxing 1993/1996 theme here. It was composed by David Dundas. Before Antena 3 and Telecinco, there was another private channel in Spain (but didn't last long!) It was called Canal 10, and you had to pay a lot of money to watch it! It signed on in January 1988 and was shut down in September that year. Here's a recent story from TVE's Telediario that explains it clearly. Antena 3 and Telecinco were both launched in 1990. Finally, the theme used by Canal 9 Libertad between 1995 and 1997 for its late-night news update El Reporter Esso, when it was revived for the last time. I bet this was one of the last news programs around the world to be sponsored by Esso.
