ColumbusNewsFan 217 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 This is just breaking so detail are sketchy at best: From jtliedtke @ hdcolumbus.net I emailed the programming staff at WSYX and WTTE and they said that "WSYX & WTTE will be broadcasting their news programs (along with several of the syndicated programs) in HD before the end of April. We are currently upgrading all of our sets and equipment. Please watch for promos and updates over the next few weeks." It is cool how Central Ohio will have 3 News Stations in High Definition Officially, If this rumor is true. Columbus will become to 2nd city the nation to have all of it station in HD. To my knowledge, outside of Cleveland which did this first, No other market has done this yet.
ColumbusNewsFan 217 Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I am in literal shock right now reporting that. if this is coming from the programming staff 9 time out 10 this is true so I'm shocked
tyrannical bastard 4036 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I must second this feeling of shock....I hope to god that WEAR isn't the next one to go HD. A Sinclair station going HD. Wow.
mbhcity 3 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I think Ohio is way ahead of other states in terms of HD...Cleveland has all 4 stations, Columbus now has 3...Don't know much about Cincy though.
TennTV1983 807 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Then I guess it's only a matter of time before WZTV in Nashville does HD news as well.
first on fox 18 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Come to think of it WSYX/WTTE has been using their daytime backdrop at night so maybe they are on a temp set. I'll look tonight and see if they use any wide shots.
Sam Horn 78 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Wait, wait, wait. How is this HD history, again? ETA: I get the whole "all the news ops in HD" thing, but they're handicapped with only three news ops, right? Philly, New York, Chicago, et al all have three ops in HD...
Ntropolis 599 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Cleveland has had all their news ops in HD (4) for several months.
who?cares 255 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I...I hope to god that WEAR isn't the next one to go HD. I may very well be shot for saying this, but i kinda like WEAR, but i like WALA better, i don't care too much for WKRG, or WPMI, but anyway atleast WEAR makes a try at being decent. Oh, and i guess good for WSYX.
first on fox 18 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I think its history because who knew a Sinclair station would go HD, haha.
tyrannical bastard 4036 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Then again....someone like WPMI may be desparate enough to take the HD news plunge. At least the sale is finally going through. Has any other of their stations gone HD yet?
TSSZNews 1052 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 A Sinclair station in HD. Well, that's something. It's made MORE interesting because ever since they've rolled out NewsCentral...if you completely ignore the content of their product, their presentation is actually pretty good. So...either WSYX/WTTE will break the standardization mold...or I sense something much bigger about to happen. Or...they'll half-ass it, and blow up the existing graphics to HD. As in...resize it. Not re-render for HD quality. I'm just saying.
ColumbusNewsFan 217 Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 The thing is the new ND at WSYX/WTTE has been trying as of late to make ABC 6 / Fox 28 compete in this market. WSYX rejected the news central format and most thing Sinclair try to roll out. If they Half Ass on HD at least it won't be as bad as WBNS calling their news HD but everything is in SD but studio cameras and weather graphic.
10Viewer 338 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I think WBNS kind of screwed up their HD launch last year. I mean, the set looks terrible. Too dark. Too much blue and the backdrop is just strange. I guess it's meant to be a control room or something? I love the graphics that WCMH debuted. But the set looks cramped and not too impressive. I'm told that they are building a new set in the studio next door to the news set? Any truth to that? And what about that ridiculous Broad and High studio that seems two years overdue? I actually like the recent promos that WSYX/WTTE have been doing. Very nice. Kind of classy on their part. Their set has looked nice for its age as it debuted in August 1999. But it's time for something new.
first on fox 18 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 WCMH has their new set built already and its in the video below. Look closely at :03 to :04 seconds.. No one knows really what they are waiting for, though.

first on fox 18 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Olympics? I think they are still working out the kinks. Because the set is fully operational and whats the point in waiting until August when its good to go now?
10Viewer 338 Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 That set looks very Media General. A little bland, but better than the current set.
10Viewer 338 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 WCMH debuted their new set today, March 29th. WSYX/WTTE is still constructing their new HD set.
