CBS O&O Layoffs

KTVT lost Robert Riggs (Investigator Reporter), Maria Arita (4pm Anchor), and others.

I actually liked Maria at 4. I found the KTVT 4pm newscast more watchable than KXAS.

Not sure how badly they were hit though...

Speaking as my coworkers disappear around me, the CBS O&Os are being walloped pretty bad. It's a scary time; this came out of the blue. It is unlikely that the Eye is finished cutting. Other TV boards can tell you how badly they are cutting at the network level as well, including Newspath.

At WCCO, John Reger was the only anchor who was released from his contract (so far...).

Paul Douglas, the main weatherman at wcco, just got laid off. I'm not sure what they are thinking, since the weekend weatherman is really old. Presumably, they will either need to hire another weatherman soon, if not now.

It had to do more with his pay.. However, no need to worry about Paul. He sold his company a couple years ago for 45 million dollars and he still has that money. He pretty much told CBS to kiss his ass when he walked out the door.

  • 4 weeks later...

Denver's KCNC laid off a large number of people as well ( mainly people behind the scenes and I think one weatherman ) YET KCNC recently hired a new full-time female anchor for their evening newscasts and rumor has it around Denver that KCNC is paying her nearly 100 K.

If this is true, it does not make sense. Lay people off to save big bucks AND at the same time pay big bucks for a new anchor.
