My town went through something similar: Yeah, we had a woman once who was mayor of our town some years back. She disappeared one day, and no one knew where she went. But it soon became clear necessarily why she skipped town: $XX,000 of city hall's money came up missing. It even made the DFW station's late newscasts, one night. No one has absolutely confirmed her whereabouts to this day, but rumor has it that she now waits tables at a greasy spoon in Shreveport.
